lo fa proprio in concomitanza con l’avvio delle celebrazioni per i 1600 anni dalla sua
fondazione.
Venezia torna a vivere e lo fa con quel coraggio e quella determinazione che ha sempre contraddistinto
il suo essere Regina dei mari e simbolo di unità tra lo Stato da Mar e Stato da Tera.
Un delicato equilibrio che da sempre caratterizza le diverse realtà che compongono il suo
paesaggio - dalle isole a tutto il territorio metropolitano- creano un’offerta turistica e una realtà
unica al mondo, che tutti sono chiamati a rispettare e preservare.
Venezia è e sempre sarà una città viva che crede nel futuro: innovazione, nuova manifattura,
porto off-shore e lo sviluppo di Porto Marghera, sono le scommesse per il rilancio di questo
territorio che, oltre ad essere meta turistica, vuole porsi, sempre più, come grande capitale delle

St. Mark’s Square is a monumental site and
excluding pertinent bars and restaurants, it is
forbidden to stand at any time in order to consume
food or drink.
Venice is a city of art: it is forbidden to camp,
walk about in swimwear, dive and swim. The
beaches at Lido and Pellestrina can be easily
reached.
Respect the environment and artistic wealth: do
not litter, do not vandalize with graffiti. Do not
give food to the pigeons.
If you are staying in an apartment or flat, please
get informed about the garbage recycling
collection.

IL LABORATORIO
DEL FUTURO
Mai come in questi anni l’uomo
si è domandato quale sarà
il suo futuro, o meglio, quale
sarà il futuro del suo pianeta.
Nel campo della scienza, della
medicina, dell’ambiente, si
chiedono risposte immediate
visto soprattutto la sovrappopolazione
che ormai la terra
ha raggiunto.
Ecco allora quasi naturale il
tema di questa 18. edizione
della Mostra Internazionale
di Architettura, evento
promosso da La Biennale di
Venezia, considerata oggi la
massima esposizione dedicata
appunto, a quella materia che
studia l’organizzazione dello
spazio antropizzato, cioè
adattato alla vita dell’essere
umano.
The Laboratory of the Future è quindi il titolo che lancia il tema voluto in questa edizione
dalla curatrice Lesley Lokko, scrittrice e architetto scozzese di origini ghanesi, un tema che
parte dal concetto essenziale, quello del “cambiamento”, rappresentato in una maniera emblematica
dal suo continente di origine, l’Africa, rappresentata con tutte le sue criticità storiche,
economiche, climatiche e politiche che oggi però, ancor con più forza, toccano sempre
più da vicino il resto del mondo.
Un “cambiamento” che la Biennale di Venezia sta inoltre fortemente percorrendo per sperimentare
sul campo un percorso che porti ad un ambizioso obiettivo, quello del raggiungimento
di una neutralità carbonica.
In parole povere, la ricerca di una via - come annota il Presidente Roberto Cicutto, impegnato
fin dal 2021 su questo cruciale obiettivo - che porti ad ridurre, fino ad eliminare, ogni emissione
di CO2 da tutte le manifestazioni prodotte da La Biennale.
Ciò è stato (e sarà) reso possibile grazie ad un’accurata raccolta di dati e all’adozione di misure
conseguenti che hanno già, dalla Mostra internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica dell’anno
passato, portato la Biennale ad essere la prima grande Istituzione Culturale di livello internazionale
a raggiungere questo risultato.
Per raggiungere l’obiettivo l’Istituzione ha lavorato in due direzioni: la riduzione delle emissioni
sotto il proprio controllo e la compensazione delle emissioni residue, attraverso l’acquisto di
crediti di carbonio certificati, generati da progetti di energia rinnovabile nel mondo.
E’ questo, forse è l’inizio del futuro…

THE LABORATORY OF THE FUTURE
Never more so than today has Man asked himself
what his future will be, or rather, what the future
of his planet will be. Immediate answers are
sought in the fields of science, medicine and the
environment, especially in view of the overpopulation
which Earth has now reached.
So, the focus for this 18th edition of the International
Architecture Exhibition event promoted
by the Venice Biennale, deemed to be the top exhibition
dedicated precisely to this theme, comes
almost natural, being the subject that studies the
organization of the anthropized space, meaning
adapted to the life of the human being.
The Laboratory of the Future is therefore the
title launching the theme wished for this edition
by the curator Lesley Lokko, a Scottish writer
and architect of Ghanaian origins. A theme starting
from the essential concept of "change", represented
in an emblematic way by her continent
of origin, Africa, represented in all its historical,
economic, climate and political criticalities, which,
however, touch the rest of the world today ever
more closely, and even more strongly.
A "change" which the Venice Biennale is also
strongly pursuing in order to experiment on the
field a path leading to an ambitious aim, achieving
carbon neutrality.
But what does this mean?
As noted by its President Roberto Cicutto, committed
since 2021 to this crucial goal, to reduce
and even to eliminate all CO2 emissions from all
events produced by La Biennale. This is thanks to
an accurate collection of data from the past year's
International Film Festival and to the adoption of
subsequent measures, which have already led the
Biennale to be the first major Cultural
Institution at an international level
to achieve this result.
In order to achieve such a goal, the
Institution has worked in two directions:
the reduction of emissions
under its own control and compensation
of residual emissions through
the purchase of certified carbon
credits, generated by renewable energy
projects around the world.
This, perhaps, is the beginning of the
future…
GIUGNO CON...
MARE, ARCHITETTURA, ARTE, TEATRO
Mare, arte, cultura, sono gli ingredienti della grande
stagione veneziana che con l’estate si presenta
al meglio delle sue potenzialità.
Ecco in sintesi le opportunità del mese.
E’ il Salone nautico, seppur solo per pochi giorni
(chiuderà infatti il 4 giugno), ad attrarre per primo
l’attenzione del pubblico. Anticipato dalla Vogalonga,
l’altra importante manifestazione acquea
dedicata alla passione per il remo, si presenta
per la sua quarta edizione lungo l’incomparabile
contesto storico offerto dal bacino dell’Arsenale,
antico cuore dell’industria navale veneziana.
Qui, il visitatore potrà ammirare le eccellenze
della cantieristica italiana e straniera con yacht e
superyacht, vela e altre tipologie di imbarcazioni
comprese naturalmente quelle a propulsione
elettrica. La parata galleggiante, sarà completata
da spazi espositivi con stand dedicati ad ogni
aspetto della marineria.
Il Salone, darà inoltre particolare risalto all’intrattenimento,
con regate e trofei, tra cui l’arrivo della
competizione motonautica Pavia-Venezia, offrendo
spazi di relax per famiglie, con attività, punti di
ristorazione e alcune coinvolgenti visite guidate,
tra cui un percorso all'interno dello storico sommergibile
Enrico Dandolo.
La voglia di mare non finisce però qui.
Dal primo di giugno apriranno infatti le spiagge
del Lido, da quelle disposte alle estremità dell’isola
(San Nicolò e Alberoni) a quelle centrali, poste
tra i due storici alberghi, l’Excelsior e il Des Bains
(quest’ultimo tristemente chiuso) note per la storia
e il glamour che un tempo hanno rappresentato.
Arrivarci è semplice. Per raggiungere il lungomare
dove si dipartono le spiagge, basteranno poco più
di una dozzina di minuti di battello da San Marco e
altrettanti a piedi

Dal panorama del mare a quello
proposto dalle grandi esposizioni
il passo è breve. A spiccare
nel periodo, è la Mostra internazionale
di Architettura.
Promossa da La Biennale di Venezia
si è da poco presentata al
grande pubblico con un tema
che oggi inevitabilmente tocca
il mondo intero: il rapporto tra
uomo e pianeta. Così, Il laboratorio
del futuro, questo il titolo
della Mostra, punterà i riflettori
- e questa sarà la prima volta
- sull’Africa e, inevitabilmente,
sulla sua diaspora.
Il percorso che prende inizio dal
Padiglione Centrale ai Giardini,
si snoda lungo il complesso
dell’Arsenale giungendo fino al
Forte Marghera, in terraferma,
comprendendo naturalmente
le Partecipazioni nazionali
(quest’anno 63) con singole mostre allestite nei Padiglioni ai Giardini e all’Arsenale oltre
che nel centro storico della città.
A queste infine si aggiungono una decina di esposizioni “Collaterali”.
Tra le novità di questa 18. edizione curata da Lesley Lokko, ci saranno le presenze del
Niger e di Panama; il ritorno della Santa Sede, con un padiglione presso l’isola di San
Giorgio; la presenza di Biennale College (un programma didattico con docenti internazionali);
il ciclo Carnival, una serie di incontri, proiezioni, performance volti ad esplorare
i temi dell’edizione.
Come accennato, a La Biennale si affiancano una serie di grandi e piccole istituzioni offrendo
un variegato panorama di esposizioni dedicate a vari ambiti dell’arte.
Ne sono esempio, l’importante mostra dedicata dai Musei Civici (MuVe) a Vittore
Carpaccio, tra i pittori più originali, fantasiosi e inventivi del Rinascimento veneziano,
visibile a Palazzo Ducale (fino al 18 giugno); l’esaustiva retrospettiva su Edmondo Bacci,
artista veneziano del Novecento, presentata dalla Collezione Peggy Guggenheim; le
mostre presentate dalla Fondazione Pinault a Palazzo Grassi e a Punta della Dogana,
rispettivamente sulla fotografia degli ex archivi Condé Nast e sull’arte contemporanea,
e ancora, quella appena presentata dalla Fondazione Prada a Ca’ Corner della Regina,
inedito progetto di ricerca sulla correlazione tra arti visive e tempo meteorologico.
Tra le mostre di punta emergono ancora, quella dedicata alla potenzialità dell’essere
umano “A world of Potential” presso le Procuratie Vecchie; quella sull’opera
dell’innovativo architetto giapponese Kengo Kuma a Palazzo Franchetti; sul maestro
veneziano dell’informale Emilio Vedova al museo M9 di Mestre; quelle sull’arte del
vetro in Boemia e su i lavori di Ugo Mulas, allestite rispettivamente alle Stanze del Vetro
e della Fotografia, presso gli splendidi spazi della Fondazione Cini.
Per l’arte segnaliamo infine il ricchissimo panorama espositivo e la speciale notte promossa
da Art Night Venezia (sabato 17 giugno) affascinante kermesse notturna dedicata
alla cultura, con mostre, talk e performance, organizzata dall’Università di Ca’ Foscari
con la collaborazione del Comune e di gran parte delle istituzioni culturali cittadine.
Chiudiamo ancora con La Biennale di Venezia che presenterà a partire dal 15 giugno il
suo Festival internazionale del Teatro: un attraente cartellone di spettacoli e appuntamenti
con importanti protagonisti della scena teatrale contemporanea.

JUNE WITH THE SEA, ARCHITECTURE, ART, THEATRE
The sea, art and culture are the ingredients of the grand Venetian season, which offers the best of its potential in
the summer.
Here is a summary of the opportunities for this month.
The Nautical Salon, albeit only for a few days (ending in fact on 4 June), will attract the public’s attention in the
first place. Preceded by the Vogalonga, the other important water-event, dedicated to the passion for rowing, it
features its fourth edition along the incomparable historical setting offered by the Arsenal basin, the ancient heart
of the Venetian naval industry. Visitors here may admire the excellence of Italian and foreign shipbuilding, with
yachts and superyachts, sailing boats and other kinds, naturally including electrically propelled ones. The floating
parade will be completed by exhibition spaces, with stands dedicated to every aspect of seafaring.
The Salon will also offer a particular emphasis on entertainment, with regattas and trophies, including the arrival
of the Pavia-to-Venice motorboat competition, and leisure areas for families, with activities and refreshment hubs,
and some appealing guided tours, including the one to historic submarine Enrico Dandolo.
However, the desire for the sea does not end here. In fact, the beaches on the Lido will open from 1st June, from
those located at the tips of the island (San Nicolò and Alberoni) to the central ones, located between the two historic
hotels, the Excelsior and the Des Bains (the latter sadly closed) known for the history and glamour they once
embodied. Getting there is simple, just over a dozen minutes by boat from Saint Mark’s and as many on foot to
reach the seafront, where the beaches begin.
From a marine scenario to the one suggested by the great exhibitions.
The International Architecture Exhibition stands out during this period. Promoted by the Venice Biennale, it has
recently presented itself to the wider public with a theme inevitably touching the entire world nowadays: the relationship
between man and the planet. Thus, The laboratory of the future, this the title of the Exhibition, will shine
its spotlight - for the first time - upon Africa and, inevitably, upon its diaspora.
The circuit, starting from the Central Pavilion at the Giardini, winds along the Arsenal complex and reaches Forte
Marghera on the mainland, naturally including the national Participations (63 this year) with individual showcases
set up in the Pavilions at the Giardini and at the Arsenal, as well as in the historic centre in town. In addition are also
about a dozen further “Collateral” exhibitions.
Among the novelties of this 18th edition by curator Lesley Lokko, there will be the attendance of Niger and Panama;
the return of the Holy See with a pavilion on the island of San Giorgio; the presence of Biennale College
(a training programme with international tutors); the Carnival cycle, a series of meetings, screenings and performances
aimed at exploring the themes of this edition.
As mentioned above, the Biennale is flanked by a series of large and small institutions offering a varied scenario of
showcases dedicated to various artistic ambits.
An example of this is the important exhibition by the City Museums dedicated to Vittore Carpaccio, amongst the
most original, imaginative and inventive painters of the Venetian Renaissance, visible at the Ducal Palace (until 18
June); the exhaustive retrospective on Venetian Twentieth century artist Edmondo Bacci presented by the Peggy
Guggenheim Collection; the exhibitions presented by the Pinault Foundation at Palazzo Grassi and at Punta della
Dogana, respectively on photography from the former Condé Nast archives and on contemporary art, and moreover,
the one just presented by the Prada Foundation at Ca’ Corner della Regina, a novel research project on the
correlation between visual arts and the weather; the one dedicated to the potential of the human being, “A world
of Potential” at the Old Procuratie; the one on the work of innovative Japanese architect Kengo Kuma at Palazzo
Franchetti; on the Venetian master of the informal Emilio Vedova at the M9 museum; on the art of glass in Bohemia
and on photography by Ugo Mulas, both of them at the Cini Foundation venues.
Regarding art, may we further point out the lavish exhibitions scenario as well as the special night promoted by
Art Night Venice (Saturday 17 June), the fascinating nocturnal event dedicated to culture, with exhibitions, talks
and performances organised by Ca’ Foscari University with the collaboration of the Municipality and most of the
town’s cultural institutions.
We end with the Venice Biennale again, presenting its International Theatre Festival from 15 June: an attractive
billboard featuring shows and rendez-vous with important protagonists in the contemporary theatre scene.

Tre mostre, tre luoghi: due nel cuore della città, uno a Mestre.
Tre valori, tre occasioni diverse per vivere la città attraverso i suoi eventi e…
la bellezza dell’arte.
"EGO" ALLA FONDATION VALMONT
… L’arte è l’idea che abbiamo della
bellezza che parla ai sensi e alle
emozioni.
L’artista è la persona che ha un senso
della bellezza e può creare un’opera
d’arte.
Così Didier Guillon, imprenditore,
curatore, filantropo, collezionista
d’arte e artista svizzero-francese,
Presidente e Direttore Artistico del
Gruppo Valmont, ha interpretato la
sua visione sul mondo dell’arte e
così, ha scelto Venezia, la città che
forse più interpreta l’idea di arte e
di bellezza.
Qui, a Palazzo Bonvicini, antico edificio
inserito nel fascino labirintico del sestiere di San Polo, a due passi dal celebre museo
di Ca’Pesaro, ha creato la sede di Fondation Valmont dedicata alla collezione di proprietà
ma, soprattutto, alla promozione dell’arte contemporanea e al sostegno dei giovani artisti.
Qui, Didier Guillon assieme al figlio Maxence con il quale condivide la medesima passione,
presenta i suoi progetti espositivi. L’ultimo affronta il complesso tema dell’Ego - da cui il titolo
della mostra visibile oggi - interpretato da quattro artisti che hanno preso spunto dalla
bellezza eterna e fragile di Venezia.
Ecco allora Carles Valverde in “Composizione di due elementi modulari” dove la nozione
di ego viene intesa come individualità della parola società; Didier Guillon con l’installazione
intitolata “L’Homme Pensant”, composta da dieci sculture che rappresentano i busti
di uomini urlanti; Vangelis Kyris e Anatoli Georgiev con la loro raffinata ricerca intitolata
“Abbigliamento Veste dell’Anima” preziosa simbiosi tra fotografia ed elementi di ricamo in
tessuto dorato.

“L’ARTE UNISCE IL MONDO” A PALAZZO ALBRIZZI CAPELLO
Indipendentemente dalla tecnologia che oggi gioca un
ruolo significativo nell’unire le persone attraverso l’arte, le
esposizioni d’arte internazionali rimangono un faro che contribuisce
a portare ad una visione condivisa di un mondo
migliore, alimentando speranze e ispirazione per il futuro.
Ecco allora negli spazi di Palazzo Albrizzi Capello, elegante
dimora veneziana nel sestiere di Cannaregio, una mostra che
riunisce un gruppo di artisti internazionali, celebrando così il
potere dell’arte di connettere le persone attraverso lo spazio,
il tempo e le culture.
Grazie ad un’accurata selezione di opere di artisti provenienti
da vari Paesi del mondo, questa mostra dimostra la
capacità unica dell’arte di trascendere le barriere linguistiche
e riunire le persone in un apprezzamento condiviso della
bellezza e della creatività.
La mostra, presentata in occasione di Biennale di Architettura,
è stata realizzata da un’idea di Marianna Gnedzilova
grazie alla fattiva collaborazione tra Associazione Culturale
Italo-Tedesca di Venezia, prestigiosa istituzione diretta da
Nevia Pizzul Capello; Osten Art Skopje, associazione diretta
da Kornelija Koneska; Progetti OKXSA (Associazione europea
per l’interazione e la cooperazione nel campo dell’istruzione
della cultura e dello sport) diretta da Oksana Zhudina Bogo e Galleria SNEG di
Mosca diretta da Alexander Filippov.
"RIVOLUZIONE VEDOVA" ALL’M9, MUSEO DEL '900 DI MESTRE
Sono molti gli artisti veneziani annoverati tra le pagine della Storia dell’Arte.
Tra quelle dedicate al Novecento c’è Emilio Vedova, pittore e incisore ma anche intellettuale,
partigiano e… rivoluzionario. Rivoluzionario per esporre sempre con chiarezza il suo
pensiero e per il modo di “fare” arte, intesa come impegno civile.
Ecco allora a lui dedicata, “Rivoluzione Vedova”, un'importante mostra ideata e progettata
da Fondazione Emilio e Annabianca Vedova, coprodotta con M9 - Museo del ’900
di Mestre. Qui, si racconta il punto di vista di questo grande artista mettendo a confronto i
visitatori con i capitoli “caldi” della storia recente: dalle macerie della Seconda guerra mondiale
agli avvenimenti della politica internazionale che hanno sconvolto il mondo negli anni
Sessanta, Settanta fino al Duemila.
Sono centotrenta opere, tra installazioni
e lavori a parete che non mancheranno
di sorprendere il pubblico
per la dirompente forza espressiva
e per la sorprendente contemporaneità.
L’allestimento si presenta lungo un
percorso con due livelli di lettura:
“Da una parte – ha spiegato la curatrice
Gabriella Belli - protagonista è
la pittura, il gigantismo delle opere,
la potenza del segno, la forza della
materia e del colore, dall’altra, il resoconto
della storia, con una decina
di lavori disposti in sequenza cronologica,
come tappe di una via crucis
laica, sulle bianche pareti perimetrali
della sala”.

A TREASURE TO DISCOVER
Three exhibitions, three locations: two in the heart of town, one in Mestre.
Three values, three different opportunities to experience the city through its
events and… the beauty of art.
"EGO" AT THE FONDATION VALMONT
… Art is the idea we have of beauty which speaks
to the senses and to emotions.
The artist is the person who possesses a sense of
beauty and is able to create a work of art.
Thus, French Swiss entrepreneur, curator,
philanthropist, art collector and artist Didier
Guillon, President and Artistic Director of the
Valmont Group, has interpreted his vision of the
art world and thus, has he chosen Venice, the
city which perhaps most interprets the ideal of
art and beauty.
Here, just a short walk from the famed Ca’Pesaro
museum, he has created the Fondation Valmont
headquarters at Palazzo Bonvicini, an
ancient building located within the labyrinthine
charm of the San Polo district, dedicated to its
own collection but, particularly, to the promotion
of contemporary art and to the support of
young artists.
Here, Didier Guillon, together with his son Maxence
with whom he shares the same passion,
presents his showcase projects. The latest one deals with the complex theme of the Ego
- hence the title of the exhibition visible today - interpreted by four artists who have taken
their cue from the eternal, fragile beauty of Venice.
Here then are Carles Valverde in “Composition of two modular elements” where the notion
of ego is meant as the individuality of the term society; Didier Guillon with the installation
named “L’Homme Pensant”, made up of ten sculptures representing the busts of
yelling men; Vangelis Kyris and Anatoli Georgiev with their photographic research named
“Clothing, a Soul Robe”, a precious symbiosis between photography and golden fabric
embroidery elements.

“ART UNITES THE WORLD” AT PALAZZO ALBRIZZI CAPELLO
Regardless of technology which plays a significant role today
in bringing people together through art, international art
exhibitions remain a beacon helping to bring about a shared
vision for a better world, fuelling hopes and inspiration for
the future.
Here then is an exhibition in the venues at Palazzo Albrizzi
Capello, an elegant Venetian dwelling in the Cannaregio
district, bringing together a group of international artists,
thus celebrating the power of art in connecting people
across space, time and cultures.
Thanks to an accurate selection of works by artists from
various countries around the world, this exhibition demonstrates
the unique ability of art to transcend language barriers
and to bring people together in a shared appreciation of
beauty and creativity.
The exhibition, presented for the occasion of the Architecture
Biennale, was created after an idea by Marianna
Gnedzilova, thanks to the active collaboration between the
Italo-German Cultural Association in Venice directed by Nevia
Pizzul Capello, Skopje Osten Art directed by Kornelija
Koneska; OKXSA Projects (European Association for Interaction
and Cooperation in the Field of Education, Culture
and Sport) directed by Oksana Zhudina Bogo, Alexander Filippov’s Moscow SNEG Gallery.
"VEDOVA REVOLUTION" AT THE M9, MUSEUM OF THE 20TH CENTURY OF MESTRE
The Venetian artists included in History of Art pages are many. Among the ones dedicated
to the Twentieth century, is painter and engraver Emilio Vedova, but also an intellectual, a
partisan and… a revolutionary. Revolutionary in always stating his thoughts clearly, and for
his way of “making” art, meant as a civil commitment.
Here then is “Vedova Revolution”, a major exhibition conceived and planned by the
Emilio e Annabianca Vedova Foundation and co-produced with M9 – 1900s Museum in
Mestre, recounting this great artist’s point of view by confronting visitors with “hot” chapters
in recent history, from the rubble of the Second World War to events in international
politics which shocked the world in the Sixties, Seventies right up to the Twenty-first century.
One hundred and thirty works
are featured, between installations
and hanging artworks which will not
fail to amaze the public due to their
explosive expressive force and astonishing
contemporaneity.
The exhibition circuit is presented
along two levels of interpretation:
“On the one hand – explains curator

protagonist, with the giant format of
the artworks, the powerful strokes,
the strength of matter and colour,
on the other, the historical account,
with about a dozen works arranged

• VITTORE CARPACCIO. Dipinti e Disegni
La Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia,
in collaborazione con la National
Art Gallery di Washington celebra a
Palazzo Ducale, a sessant’anni dalla
prima storica mostra del 1963, il grande
pittore della Serenissima che visse a cavallo
tra il Quattro e il Cinquecento.
La rassegna che segue quella di recente realizzata
a Washington, presenta quarantacinque
dipinti a tema religioso, profano o di genere (tra
essi alcuni di grandi dimensioni) che evidenziano
le grandi doti immaginative, narrative, descrittive,
oltre alla sapiente tecnica pittorica dell’artista.
Unitamente, un folto nucleo di disegni dimostra
la sua speciale capacità di “studiare” in maniera
minuziosa e dettagliata la realtà dell’epoca.
Curata da Peter Humfrey, Andrea Bellieni e
Gretchen Hirschauer la mostra sarà visibile al
pubblico fino al 18 giugno.

• EDMONDO BACCI. L'energia della luce.
Un’ottantina di opere, tra dipinti e disegni
inediti, provenienti dall’Archivio
Edmondo Bacci, musei e collezioni
private nazionali e internazionali, riportano
idealmente a Ca’ Venier dei
Leoni l’artista veneziano tanto caro a Peggy Guggenheim.
Curata da Chiara Bertola, la mostra si concentra
sul periodo più lirico e felice della produzione
di Bacci, ovvero gli anni ’50, che hanno segnato
il successo nonché la consacrazione dell’artista,
avvenuta nel 1958 nel corso della XXIX Biennale
Internazionale d’Arte di Venezia.
Tra le opere esposte quella che Alfred Barr, allora
direttore del Museum of Modern Art di New
York, acquistò nel 1953. La tela, nota come “Avvenimento
13 R”, oggi parte della collezione del museo
newyorkese, ritorna eccezionalmente in Italia,

• VITTORE CARPACCIO. Paintings and Drawings
Sixty years after the first historic exhibition in
1963, the Venice City Museums Foundation, in
collaboration with the Washington National Art
Gallery, is celebrating this Serene Republic’s
great painter who lived between the Fifteenth
and Sixteenth centuries, at the Ducal Palace.
Following the recent one in Washington, this
showcase presents forty-five paintings with a religious,
secular or genre theme (with some largesized
ones among them), highlighting the artist’s
great imaginative, narrative and descriptive skills,
as well as his knowledgeable painting technique.
Collectively, a large group of drawings demonstrates
his special ability to "study" the reality of
the age in a meticulous and detailed manner.
The exhibition, by curators Peter Humfrey, Andrea
Bellieni and Gretchen Hirschauer, will be
visible to the public until 18 June.

Around eighty artworks, between unpublished
paintings and drawings, from the Edmondo Bacci
Archive, national and international museums
and private collections, ideally bringing back this
Venetian artist so dear to Peggy Guggenheim at
Ca' Venier dei Leoni.
By curator Chiara Bertola, the exhibition concentrates
on the most lyrical and happy period
in Bacci's production, or the 1950s, marking the
artist's success as well as his consecration, which
took place in 1958 during the 29th International
Art Biennale of Venice. Among the works
displayed, was the one which Alfred Barr, then
the director of the Museum of Modern Art in
New York, bought in 1953. This canvas, known
as "Event 13 R", and now part of the New York
museum collection, is returning exceptionally to
Italy to be exhibited in public for the first time.

anni della nascita della Morath (Graz 1923- 2002)
viene completato da una selezione di importanti
reportage fotografici dedicati a vari Paesi, oltre
che da una sezione dedicata ai ritratti verso i quali

grandi maestri della scultura contemporanea in

A WORLD OF POTENTIAL
• A WORLD OF POTENTIAL
Hosted on the third floor at the Old Procuratie,
the headquarters of The Human Safety Net, a
foundation created by the Generali group with
the aim of offering new potential to vulnerable
persons, this exhibition, by curator Orna Cohen,
is presented as an experiential journey in which
visitors are invited into a sequence of experiences
which increase their self-awareness and the
perception of the world at the same time.
In the final part, visitors will be able to gather
information about the foundation’s activity and
to donate half of their ticket cost to one of the
programmes (freely chosen) managed by the
Foundation itself.
Arthur Duff’s new installation “The Hungriest
Eye. The blossoming of Potential" is part of the
circuit, as a new collaborative space where visitors
can take part in the creation of an artwork,
expressing their potential.

this exhibition will present a corpus of about 200
photographs focused on Venice, that the Austrian
photographer, a correspondent for the wellknown
Magnum agency, shot in the Lagoon for
L'Oeil art magazine.
The project, which coincides with Morath's one
hundredth birth centenary (Graz 1923- 2002), is
completed by a selection of important photographic
reportages dedicated to various countries.

The Rooms of Glass are reopening with an important
exhibition dedicated to Bohemian glass, a
long-term cultural project dedicated to glass art
and design. The exhibition, organised in collaboration

Arts, will present six great masters of contemporary
glass sculpture, recounting the evolution
of glass in Bohemia after the Second World War:
from its traditional categorisation under applied
and decorative art, to its employment in the creation
of important abstract sculptures.

Regina la Fondazione Prada presenta
questo inedito progetto di ricerca ideato
dal curatore Dieter Roelstraete: una sorta
di esplorazione sui significati del tempo
meteorologico nel mondo dell’arte
visiva, ideale premessa per affrontare
l’emergenza climatica in corso.

Architectures for the stage.
For the occasion of the Architecture Biennale,
in this exhibition the Giorgio Cini Foundation is
illustrating the opus and the vision of architect,
designer and scenographer Luciano Baldessari,
an eclectic, free figure whose life and career as
a bold, anti-conformist experimenter crossed
historic 1900s Avantgardes between Europe and
the United States.
A corpus of drawings and projects, enhanced by
a singular layout, will be displayed next to the
Luminator lamp-dummy within the Manica Lunga

The series of exhibitions curated by TBA21–Academy,
dedicated to the relationship between man
and the sea, continues in the venues of Ocean
Space, located at the former church of San
Lorenzo, in Castello.
Inspired by the "Sea and Fog" poem by Etel
Adnan, this new project curated by Barbara
Casavecchia sees the encounter between the
monumental ceramic and glass sculptures of this
American-Lebanese artist and the new installation
co-commissioned by TBA21–Academy and
Audemars Piguet Contemporary.

• THE COOLING SOLUTION
Promoted by Venice Ca’ Foscari University and
the CMCC Foundation, this project between art
and science shows how people with different
cultural and socio-economic backgrounds adapt
to high temperature and humidity conditions, in
temperate and tropical countries, through Gaia
Squarci’s auteur photography.
The exhibition is visible at the Cultural Flow
Zone at the Zattere, and the Great Courtyard at
Ca’ Foscari until 31 July 2023.

The exhibition, within the circuit of the major
Venetian city museum, presents one of the most
significant figures in the 1900s art, nearing her

“Forma” abstract group in 1947.
This Venetian project is in the guise of an installation,
with a small selection of artworks dialoguing
with the historical ambience of the museum.

Anna Moro Lin è annoverata tra i protagonisti
della Fiber Art, l’Arte Tessile sviluppatasi a partire
dal ventesimo secolo grazie all’artista francese

che si rifà all’arazzeria.
La mostra presenta un nucleo di 20 opere, donazione
dell’artista di recente scomparsa, al Museo
di Palazzo Mocenigo, oggi sede del Centro

• GIOVANNI SOCCOL. Nocturnal reflections
Ten unpublished paintings on canvas for ten symbolic
architectures overlooking the Grand Canal:
a sort of installation, which the Venetian artist
has created for the venues on the ground floor
of Mariano Fortuny’s alluring museum-home,
following research on traditional historical methodologies.

• TRAMALOGIE. Anna Moro – Lin bequest
Anna Moro-Lin is one of the Fiber Art. protagonists,
the Textile Art developed since the Twentieth
century thanks to French artist Jean Lurçat, a
pioneer of this art harking back to tapestry. The
exhibition presents a nucleus of 20 of his artworks,
donated by the recently deceased artiste
to the Palazzo Mocenigo Museum, now home to
the Centre for the History of Textiles, Costume
and Perfume.
The circuit winds through twenty rooms on the noble
first floor, doubling the exhibition venues which
opened in 1985. The exhibition, by curator Chiara
Squarcina, will remain visible until 20 August.

Musei Civici
Gestiti dalla Fondazione Musei Civici
di Venezia nota con l’acronimo
MUVE, rappresentano una parte, con oltre
700.000 opere d’arte, dell’immenso patrimonio
culturale della città.
Sono in tutto undici musei gestiti da un unico
sistema che MUVE valorizza anche attraverso
importanti mostre d’arte.
Tra questi quelli di Palazzo Ducale, del Correr,
di Ca’ Pesaro, di Ca’Rezzonico…
L’ingresso alle sedi può avvenire con un singolo
biglietto o tramite il sistema del circuito
“Museum Pass” o del percorso integrato dei
“Musei di San Marco”.

Cinque in città e tre nel territorio veneziano,
i musei gestiti dal Ministero
della Cultura – Direzione regionale Musei -

prezioso museo, le monumentali basiliche
dei Frari e dei SS Giovanni e Paolo; le Scuole
grandi, veri scrigni d’arte, di San Rocco, di
San Giovanni Evangelista, dei Carmini, di San
Giorgio dei Greci; e ancora, tra i musei, quello
Ebraico e quello Ellenico.

Sono molti e importanti i musei sparsi
nel territorio dell’entroterra veneziano.
A questi si aggiungono le ville venete,
straordinari esempi di sintonia tra architettura,
arte e paesaggio. Come per i musei anche
qui il panorama è vastissimo. Ne accenniamo
(purtroppo) solo in parte.
VENICE AND ITS MUSEUMS
Few cities in Italy (and in Europe) may boast a museum scenario
like this city’s. Set inside fine palaces and ancient abodes
within a radius of a few hundred metres, they are an integral
part of the huge cultural heritage the city assimilated over its
centuries of history.
But how to choose a museum, or museums, to most attract
one’s curiosity and desire for knowledge? Here in brief, is how
to find your way around.
Information in detail follows instead about the major ones.
City Museums
Managed by the Venice City Museums Foundation
known by its acronym MUVE, they represent a part of
the city’s huge cultural heritage, with over 700,000 artworks.
Eleven museums in total, run by a single body, boosted by
MUVE also with notable art exhibitions.
They include the Ducal Palace, the Correr, Ca’Pesaro, Ca’Rezzonico…
Entry to such venues is by a single ticket, or the
“Museum Pass” circuit system, or the “Saint Mark’s Museums”
integrated circuit.
State Museums
Five in town and three in Venetian territory, these
museums managed by the Ministry of Culture - Regional
Directorate for Museums - are part of a museum system
featuring some of the area’s top museums, including the
Galleries of the Accademia and the Giorgio Franchetti Gallery
in Venice among others, and Villa Pisani in Stra along the
Brenta Riviera.
Other museums
This section lists privately-managed museums or
ones run by individual Foundations. We may here
mention for importance the Peggy Guggenheim Collection;
the Querini Stampalia Picture-Gallery; the Palazzo Cini collections.
Churches, Devotion Schools
and religious museums
Churches and devotion schools, the latter being ancient
town guilds, are also part of the city’s museum heritage.
Among them, for importance, we find the basilica of Saint
Mark at the very top with its precious museum, the monumental
basilicas of the Frari and of Saints Giovanni & Paolo;
the Scuole Grandi of San Rocco, San Giovanni Evangelista, the
Carmini, San Giorgio dei Greci, true art coffers; plus the Jewish
and the Hellenic ones among the museums.
Museums and Villas on the territory
The Museums spread over the Venetian hinterland
territory are many, and important. In addition there
are the Veneto villas, exceptional examples of harmony amid
architecture, art and landscape. As with the museums, this
scenario is also quite vast. We are (unfortunately) mentioning
just a part.

MARIANO FORTUNY
(Granada 1871- Venezia 1949)
Palazzo Pesaro degli Orfei è un antico palazzo
gotico, venne acquistato da Mariano Fortuny nel
1899 e nel 1965 donato con lascito testamentario
da Henriette Nigrin: moglie, modella e musa
ispiratrice.
Il nuovo suggestivo allestimento, di quello che fu
un tempo un salotto dell’alta società internazionale,
laboratorio e atelier di moda, intende ricostruire
la complessa personalità di Mariano Fortuny
con un percorso che valorizza le opere pittoriche
ispirate al ciclo Wagneriano, gli studi dei grandi
maestri e il confronto con le opere pittoriche del
padre Fortuny y Marsal.
Fortuny era amico di diversi wagneriani di spicco
tra cui il direttore d’orchestra Leopoldo Mugnone
e il critico Julius Kapp; profondamente interessato
al concetto di Gesamtkunstwerk Fortuny
ha incorporato quest’estetica nella produzione
pittorica, come designer e inventore. Per il teatro
brevetta nel 1901 un nuovo sistema d’illuminazione
indiretta e diffusa, crea, inoltre, un dispositivo
scenotecnico che fa percepire l’illusione di una
notevole profondità spaziale: due innovazioni che
all’epoca vennero considerate rivoluzionarie.
Uno dei contributi più apprezzati di Fortuny al design
è stato la sua sintesi tra forma e funzione. I
suoi progetti e abiti si sono sempre distinti per la
semplicità, praticità e una eleganza senza tempo.
Nel 1909 brevetta il suo più grande successo: l’abito
delphos in satin o taffetà di seta plissettata
liberando il corpo delle donne dai rigidi corsetti
ed evidenziandone le forme sinuose.
MARIANO FORTUNY
(Granada 1871 – Venice 1949)
The Gothic Palazzo Pesaro degli Orfei, home of
Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo from 1899, was bequeathed
to Venice in 1965 by Henriette Nigrin,
his wife, collaborator, model and Muse.
The recent evocative layout reconstructs its past
use by Fortuny as his studio, fashion atelier and
workshop space. Each room is dedicated to an
aspect of the Mariano’s wide-ranging interests:
paintings inspired by Wagner’s Ring Cycle, painting
studies of Past Masters.
Mariano dedicated himself to painting, engraving,
scenography, stagecraft, lighting and applied
arts. With Henriette they started making fashion
designs from classical Greek clothing. In 1906
he opened his own Couture house, their greatest
success was the Delphos (1909), soon after
which he opened a boutique in Paris, then one in
London and Madrid and, in 1929, in New York. In
the 1920s and 1930s his client list included Sarah
Bernhardt, Luisa Casati, Isadora Duncan and Eleonora
Duse.
Fortuny sourced his dyeing pigments from various
locations in Africa, Asia and Mexico. As a traveller
and an artist, he was always looking for new
sources of inspiration and materials. Morocco
was a particular source of materials and inspiration
drawing on the rich colors and intricate patterns
of Moroccan textiles. He travelled extensively
in North Africa including Egypt and Tunisia.
In Asia, Fortuny was drawn to the textiles and
crafts of India, China and Japan. He collected
pigments from Indian local markets and dyeing
workshops. His method involved using natural
pigments, in addition to which he developed his
own synthetic pigments and created new and innovative
dyeing colours.

A VENEZIA
Venezia è una città-isola, o meglio, è una città formata da una moltitudine
di piccolissime isole (circa 110): una configurazione praticamente unica al
mondo. Il suo accesso sembrerebbe quindi complesso. Ma così non è.
Venezia mantiene un “cordone ombelicale” con il mondo, o meglio con la
terraferma (come i veneziani chiamano tutto ciò che è fuori dall’isola).
Questo è il ponte della Libertà, un tempo chiamato Littorio, dal periodo della
sua costruzione, gli anni Trenta.
La sua origine è però antecedente e risale a metà Ottocento, esattamente al
1846 data dell’inaugurazione della linea ferroviaria Milano-Venezia.
Da quel tempo, la città diventò raggiungibile non solo via acqua ma anche via
terra… sarà una svolta epocale.
Ma ecco in breve oggi, quali sono i principali punti di accesso alla città.
GETTING TO VENICE
Venice is an island-city, or rather, it is a city made up of a multitude of tiny islands (about 110): a configuration
that is practically unique in the world. Accessing it would thus seem complex. But this is not the case.
Venice maintains an “umbilical cord” with the world, or rather with the mainland (as the Venetians call
everything off the island). It is the Libertà Bridge, once called Littorio from its construction period, the 1930s.
However, its origin is earlier and dates back to the mid-nineteenth century, precisely to 1846, the inauguration
date of the Milan-Venice railway line. Since then, the city not only became accessible by water but also by land…
it would be the turning point of an era. But here are the main access points to the city today, in brief.

I TERMINAL - GLI ACCESSI VIA TERRA
PIAZZALE ROMA
E’ lo storico terminal automobilistico di Venezia
dove spiccano le due grandi autorimesse pubbliche:
il Garage San Marco e il Garage Comunale
AVM (quest’ultimo con un’area predisposta anche
alle biciclette).
Il vasto Piazzale, di recente collegato da un moderno
ponte pedonale alla Stazione ferroviaria (il ponte
della Costituzione), fa attualmente da riferimento
al servizio di collegamento urbano ed extraurbano
con la terraferma.
Da qui arrivano e si diramano le corse dei servizi
pubblici (Actv e Atvo) e privati (taxi) che collegano
Venezia alla città metropolitana e ai due aeroporti,
quello di Tessera e di Treviso.
Un servizio su monorotaia (People Mover) collega
inoltre Piazzale Roma all’isola del Tronchetto.
L’ISOLA DEL TRONCHETTO
Allacciata da una “bretella” al ponte automobilistico,
ospita il Venezia Tronchetto Parking (uno dei
più grandi garage in Europa) dove possono trovare
posto quasi 4000 mezzi compresi camper e
motociclette.
Al suo esterno, a pochi metri, si trovano gli imbarcaderi
dai quali si dipartono le linee del servizio pubblico
Actv (Linea 2) e privato per il cuore della città.
Una linea speciale denominata People Moover
collega in pochi minuti l’isola al terminal automobilistico
di Piazzale Roma.
L’isola ospita inoltre un porticciolo e il casello di
accesso al servizio di Ferry-boat della linea 17 di
Actv che collega il Tronchetto alle isole del Lido
e di Pellestrina.
LA STAZIONE FERROVIARIA DI SANTA LUCIA
Situata in posizione ideale, questa primaria porta
di accesso alla città, posta al termine del ponte
della Libertà si affaccia all’ultimo lembo del
Canal Grande.
Qui sono disposti gli imbarcaderi da dove si diramano
le principali linee Actv per la città e le isole:
la linea 1 (tutte le fermate) e 2 (diretta) per il Canal
Grande e il Canale della Giudecca; la 4.1 e 4.2; 5.1
e 5.2 (circolari) per laguna nord e Murano).
Alla stazione di recente ammodernata e ampliata
con servizi e centri commerciali, arrivano tutte le
linee veloci che collegano Venezia alle principali
città italiane ed europee.
TERMINALS - ACCESS VIA LAND
PIAZZALE ROMA
It is the historic car terminal in Venice, where two
big public garages stand out: the San Marco Garage
and the AVM Municipal Garage (the latter
also has an area for bicycles).
This large Square, linked recently to the railway
station by a modern pedestrian bridge (the Costituzione
Bridge), is currently the hub for urban
and extra-urban connection services with the
mainland.
Public (Actv and Atvo) and private (taxis) services
arrive and go from here, connecting Venice to its
metropolitan city and the two airports of Tessèra
and Treviso.
A monorail service (People Mover) also connects
Piazzale Roma to the Tronchetto island.
THE TRONCHETTO ISLAND
Connected to the automobile bridge by a flyover,
it houses the Venezia Tronchetto Parking (one
of the largest garages in Europe), where almost
4000 vehicles may be accommodated, including
camper vans and motorcycles.
Outside, a few metres away, are the boat-stops
from where public ACTV service (Line 2) and private
lines depart for the heart of the city.
A special train line called People Mover links this
island to the Piazzale Roma cars terminal in just
a few minutes.
The island also hosts a small port and toll-booth
for boarding the Actv Ferry-boat line 17 service,
linking Tronchetto to the Lido and Pellestrina islands.
THE SANTA LUCIA RAILWAY STATION
Ideally located, this primary gateway to the city
at the end of the Libertà Bridge overlooks the
last stretch of the Grand Canal.
Here are the boat stops from where the main
ACTV lines lead to the city and the islands: lines 1
(all stops) and 2 (direct) for the Grand Canal and
the Giudecca Canal; n. 4.1 and 4.2; 5.1 and 5.2 (circle)
for the northern lagoon and Murano.
All the rapid lines connecting Venice to the main
Italian and European cities arrive at this station,
recently modernised and enlarged with services
and shopping hubs.

AEROPORTO MARCO POLO - VENEZIA
Posto ai lembi della laguna nord di Venezia, a circa
13 chilometri dalla città è oggi il terzo aeroporto
per numero di passeggeri in Italia.
Gestito dalla società Save e ampliato nel 2017 è
oggi dotato di una vasta area di servizi, oltre che
di parcheggi e collegamenti con mezzi pubblici
sia via terra che via acqua gestiti rispettivamente
dalle compagnie Atvo (con un servizio Shuttle su
Piazzale Roma) e Alilaguna con motoscafi diretti
sul centro città e le isole.
Vi operano numerose compagnie aeree con una
folta rete di voli nazionali e internazionali.
AEROPORTO ANTONIO CANOVA - TREVISO
wNato come scalo per voli charter e cargo l’aeroporto
di Treviso grazie ad importanti investimenti
che hanno di recente ampliato pista ed aerostazione
è a tutti gli effetti tra i maggiori aeroporti
della regione Veneto.
Posto a pochi chilometri dalla città di Treviso e circa
a trenta dalla città di Venezia oggi fa da base
ad una delle massime compagnie internazionali
Low Cost. Gestito dalla stessa società dell’aeroporto
veneziano è collegato con la città tramite la
linea Shuttle di Atvo.
Aeroporto Nicelli - Lido
AEROPORTO NICELLI - LIDO DI VENEZIA
Tra i più suggestivi aeroporti italiani, esempio perfettamente
conservato di architettura degli anni
Trenta, l’aeroporto Nicelli è noto come il più antico
scalo commerciale italiano, e considerato da una
speciale classifica, tra le più belle superfici aeroportuali
al mondo.
La sua pista in erba fa oggi da scalo ad elicotteri e
piccoli aerei charter e privati con motori ad elica.
Posto in un’estremità dell’isola del Lido è raggiungibile
via acqua con linee private o il servizio ferry-boat
della linea 17 Actv.

Located on the edge of Venice’s northern lagoon,
about 13 kilometres from town, today
it is the third airport in terms of passenger
numbers in Italy. Managed by the Save company
and expanded in 2017, it is now equipped with a
vast services area, as well as parking and public
transport links both by land and by water, managed
respectively by Atvo (with a Shuttle service
to Piazzale Roma), and Alilaguna with direct motor-launches
to the city centre and its islands.
Several airlines operate there, with a large network
of national and international flights.
ANTONIO CANOVA AIRPORT - TREVISO
Born as a hub for charter and cargo flights,
thanks to major investments which have recently
expanded its runway and terminal Treviso airport
is effectively one of the major airports in the
Veneto region.
Located a few kilometres from the city of Treviso
and about thirty from the city of Venice, today it
is a base for one of the leading international Low
Cost companies. Managed by the same company
as the Venetian airport, it is connected to the city
by an Atvo Shuttle busline.
NICELLI AIRPORT - LIDO OF VENICE
One of the most evocative Italian airports, a perfectly
preserved example of 1930s architecture,
the Nicelli airport is known as the oldest Italian
commercial airport, and deemed by a special
ranking to be one of the most beautiful airport
areas worldwide. Its grass runway is now a hub
for helicopters and small charter and private
planes with propeller engines.
Located at one end of the Lido island, it may be
reached by water with private taxis or by the
ACTV Ferry-boat line 17 service.

A VENEZIA
Sono molte le opportunità per girare e scoprire Venezia.
La prima scelta, forse la migliore, è senza dubbio – grazie alle sue distanze ridotte
- quella di muoversi a piedi. A volte però, la mancanza di tempo, i bagagli pesanti e,
non ultimo, l’impossibilità fisica di attraversare la laguna diventa comodo, oltre che
piacevole dal punto di vista paesaggistico, salire a bordo di un mezzo di trasporto.
Nella città lagunare non esistono bus, ne metro, ne auto-taxi e… nemmeno biciclette.
Ecco allora che i mezzi di trasporto pubblici sono vaporetti o battelli (così li chiamano
da un vecchio retaggio i veneziani) e motoscafi veloci, chiamati “lance”, che fanno la
funzione dei taxi, fino ad arrivare a quel mezzo, tra i più iconici al mondo, che per secoli
ha contraddistinto il trasporto di persone lungo i rii (canali) della città: la gondola.
Ecco qualche nota a riguardo per chi appunto, appena arrivato a Venezia, volesse
spostarsi usando i mezzi di navigazione.

IL SERVIZIO DI TRASPORTO PUBBLICO

E’ l’Azienda del Consorzio Trasporti Veneziano.
La sua flotta di imbarcazioni raggiunge ogni punto
della città, comprese le isole maggiori.
Autobus e tram collegano invece il terminal di
Piazzale Roma alla città metropolitana.
Una linea speciale, la 17, collega invece con una
spola di ferry-boat il Terminal automobilistico del
Tronchetto, all’isola del Lido e, a proseguire, quella
di Pellestrina.
Dal 2020 ACTV sta investendo sul trasporto “green”
puntando ad inserire lungo la principale via
d’acqua della città, il Canal Grande, i primi mezzi
a propulsione elettrica eliminando così sia l’inquinamento
acustico che quello dell’aria, favorendo
allo stesso tempo, la riduzione del moto ondoso.

La compagnia nasce come servizio di collegamento
acqueo tra l’Aeroporto Marco Polo e i punti
focali della città: i terminal del Tronchetto, di Piazzale
Roma e della Stazione, le zone di San Marco e
di Rialto, le isole della Giudecca, del Lido e di Murano.
La rete di navigazione è costituita da quattro
linee (più una turistica) contraddistinte ognuna da
un colore.

MOVING IN VENICE
The opportunities for getting around and discovering
Venice are many.
A first choice, maybe the best, is no doubt -
thanks to its short distances - to move on foot.
But sometimes, due to lack of time, heavy luggage
and, last but not least, the physical impossibility
of crossing the lagoon, it is comfortable,
as well as pleasant from a scenic point of view, to
board a transport vehicle.
There are no buses, no metro, no car-taxis in the
lagoon city… nor bicycles.
Thus, public transport boats are vaporetti or battelli
(traditionally so called by Venetians of yore)
and fast motor-launches, called “lance”, which act
as taxis, ending with one of the most iconic vehicles
worldwide, which has characterised people’s
transport along the city canals for centuries: the
gondola.
Here are a few notes for those who, having just
arrived in Venice, wish to move around by navigation.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT SERVICE
ACTV
It is the Consorzio Trasporti Veneziano Company.
Its boat fleet reaches every part of town, including
its major islands.
Buses and trams instead link the Piazzale Roma
terminal to its metropolitan city.
Special line n. 17 links Tronchetto car-terminal to
the Lido island by a ferry-boat shuttle, and further
on to Pellestrina island.
Since 2020, ACTV has been investing in “green”
transport, aiming at its first electrically-powered
vehicles along the main city waterway, the Grand
Canal, eliminating both noise and air pollution
and favouring a wave motion reduction at the
same time.

ALILAGUNA
This company was born as a water-link service
between Marco Polo Airport and focal points in
town: the Tronchetto, Piazzale Roma and Railway
terminals, the Saint Mark and Rialto areas, the Giudecca,
Lido and Murano islands. The navigation
network consists of four lines (+ a tourist one),
each marked by a colour.
Tickets may be purchased at Alilaguna ticket offices,
as well as online.
