disastrosa acqua alta e continuati con la terribile pandemia, è pronta a rinascere

e lo fa proprio in concomitanza con l’avvio delle celebrazioni per i 1600 anni dalla

sua fondazione.

Venezia torna a vivere e lo fa con quel coraggio e quella determinazione che ha sempre contraddistinto

il suo essere Regina dei mari e simbolo di unità tra lo Stato da Mar e Stato da Tera.

Un delicato equilibrio che da sempre caratterizza le diverse realtà che compongono il suo

paesaggio - dalle isole a tutto il territorio metropolitano- creano un’offerta turistica e una realtà

unica al mondo, che tutti sono chiamati a rispettare e preservare.

Venezia è e sempre sarà una città viva che crede nel futuro: innovazione, nuova manifattura,

Welcome to a City that is ready, following those dark months beginning in November 2019 with a disastrous

high water and continuing with the terrible pandemic, for a rebirth taking place concurrently with the inception

of celebrations for the 1600 years since its foundation.

Venice is living once again, and doing so with the courage and determination that have always distinguished

its being the Queen of Seas and a symbol of unity between its Stato da Mar and Stato da Tera, or Marine State

and Land State.

A delicate balance, which has forever characterised the varied aspects making up its landscape - from its

islands to its whole metropolitan territory - creating a unique tourist offer and reality worldwide, which

everyone is called upon to respect and preserve.

Venice is and shall always be a vibrant city believing in the future: innovation, novel manufacturing, an offshore

port and the development of Porto Marghera are the challenges for relaunching this territory, which

wishes to position itself increasingly, in addition to being a tourist destination, as a great capital for cultures

St. Mark’s Square is a monumental site and

excluding pertinent bars and restaurants, it is

forbidden to stand at any time in order to consume

food or drink.

Venice is a city of art: it is forbidden to camp,

walk about in swimwear, dive and swim. The

beaches at Lido and Pellestrina can be easily

reached.

Respect the environment and artistic wealth: do

not litter, do not vandalize with graffiti. Do not

give food to the pigeons.

If you are staying in an apartment or flat, please

get informed about the garbage recycling

collection.

Plan your trip and choose to visit Venice when it

is less crowded.

L’idea di un Ospite di Venezia come guida agli eventi

della città nasce nel 1977 da alcuni membri dell’Associazione

Triveneta delle Chiavi d’Oro.

A distanza di anni questa pubblicazione prosegue nel

suo cammino grazie anche alla collaborazione con

questa associazione.

È quindi con piacere che pubblichiamo questo breve

testo di benvenuto del presidente e la lista degli alberghi

dove li si può trovare in città.

The idea for un Ospite di Venezia as a guide

to city events began in 1977 with some

members of the Golden Keys Triveneto

Association.

Years later, this periodical is still ongoing, also

thanks to its partnership with this association.

Therefore, we are pleased to publish this brief

Un’esplosione di luce, di colore,

di energia... è la nostra

immagine di copertina. Ma

cosa c’entra tutto questo con

Venezia?

Siamo agli inizi degli anni Cinquanta,

Peggy Guggenheim

affermata collezionista, si è da

poco stabilita a Venezia in un

palazzo affacciato sul Canal

Grande, unico, diverso da tutti,

Ca’ Venier dei Leoni.

Poco prima, nel 1948, aveva

conquistato l’attenzione delle

prime pagine esponendo la

propria collezione all’Esposizione

internazionale d’Arte

della Biennale: il clamore

Edmondo Bacci Avvenimento #247, 1956 suscitato da quelle opere fu

enorme… grazie a lei, in Europa,

sbarca una nuova espressione

artistica.

Con il Cubismo, il Futurismo, il Surrealismo appare l’ultimo sviluppo dell’arte americana, l’Espressionismo

astratto. Una rivoluzione...

L’attenta e appassionata visione di Peggy Guggenheim non si ferma però qui e il suo “fiuto”

cerca di cogliere anche ciò che le sta più vicino, sono quei valori rappresentati da alcuni artisti

veneti come Tancredi, Emilio Vedova, Edmondo Bacci.

Ed è proprio di quest’ultimo, l’opera che oggi possiamo apprezzare in una importante retrospettiva

dal titolo “Edmondo Bacci. L’energia della luce” che proprio la Collezione Peggy

Guggenheim propone in questi giorni al pubblico.

La mostra, presenta una serie di opere fondamentali disposte in un percorso critico per comprendere

l’evoluzione di quel linguaggio – lo spazialismo - che tanto colpì la mecenate americana,

ma che altrettanto sorprese Alfred H. Barr Jr. allora direttore del Museum of Modern Art

di New York, che acquistò dall’artista l’opera denominata Avvenimento #13 R, del 1953, oggi

tra quelle esposte a Venezia.

Di Bacci e dei suoi dipinti, Peggy Guggenheim così scriveva: “la sua pittura è un’esplosione

che mette un fuoco lirico nel mondo… sono la bomba atomica su tela”.

Ecco allora spiegato il motivo di quello strano linguaggio tra colore e luce pubblicato in copertina.

Ed ecco spiegato perché Venezia c’entra in tutto questo.

C’entra per un suo artista che ha lanciato la sua visione al mondo, c’entra per una collezionista

che ha segnato le pagine della storia dell’arte e che ha fatto di questa città la sua vita;

c’entra, in fondo, anche Venezia, perché partendo dal suo grande passato, ha sempre saputo

guardare avanti.... D.R.

An explosion of light, colour, energy on our cover...

but what has this all to do with Venice?

We are in the early Fifties, and established art collector

Peggy Guggenheim has recently settled in

Venice in a unique palace overlooking the Grand

Canal, differing from them all, Ca' Venier dei Leoni.

Just before that, in 1948, she had gained the cover-pages’

attention by exhibiting her collection

at the Biennale International Art Exhibition: the

uproar provoked by such works was huge... a new

artistic expression had disembarked in Europe

thanks to her.

Abstract Expressionism, the latest development

in American art had appeared, along with Cubism,

Futurism and Surrealism.

Peggy Guggenheim’s attentive and passionate

vision did not stop here however, and her "nose"

also tried to sense what was nearest to her, the

values illustrated by certain Venetian artists such

as Tancredi, Emilio Vedova and Edmondo Bacci.

And this final artist’s work is exactly what we may

appreciate today in an important retrospective

entitled "Edmondo Bacci. Energy and light"

which the Peggy Guggenheim Collection itself is

offering to the public.

The exhibition presents a series of seminal works

arranged within a critical circuit in order to understand

the evolution of that language - Spatialism

- which impressed the American patroness so,

but which equally surprised Alfred H. Barr Jr., the

erstwhile director of the Museum of Modern Art

in New York, who purchased the 1953 artwork

named Avvenimento #13 R from the artist, currently

among the ones on display in Venice.

Peggy Guggenheim wrote of Bacci and his paintings:

"his painting is an explosion that sets a lyric

fire to the world... they are the atomic bomb on

canvas".

Here, then, is an explanation of the reason for

that strange idiom between colour and light published

on our cover. And that explains why Venice

is involved in all this.

It has something to do with an artist who

launched his vision of the world, it has something

to do with a collector who left her mark on the

pages of art-history and made this town her life;

it has something to do with all this because, after

all, Venice has always been able to look ahead,

starting from its great past...

DA CARPACCIO ALLA BIENNALE

FINO ALLA VOGALONGA

LA VENEZIA DA NON PERDERE…

Con il mese di maggio Venezia entra nel vivo della

sua offerta, da quella prettamente turistica a

quella culturale, fino a quella rappresentata dai

grandi eventi.

Vediamo allora in sintesi i punti che potranno più

interessare l’Ospite della città, partendo da un

panorama espositivo che spaziando dall’antico al

moderno, fino al contemporaneo, si apre alla pittura,

alla fotografia, al design, all’architettura.

Tra le mostre del momento spicca senza dubbio

quella presentata dai Musei Civici, dedicata ad un

grande maestro della tradizione pittorica veneziana,

Vittore Carpaccio.

A Palazzo Ducale, in quelli che furono gli appartamenti

del Doge, ci si potrà immergere nella spettacolare

scena cinquecentesca raccontata da un

grande artista, tra i pittori più originali, fantasiosi e

inventivi del Rinascimento veneziano.

Ancora pittura, ma lontana anni luce, per maniera

e invenzione. Siamo ora in piena arte moderna,

quella rappresentata da un altro maestro veneziano,

Edmondo Bacci, che la Collezione Peggy

Guggenheim ha da poco presentato nei suoi spazi,

focalizzando la sua opera sulle tele degli anni

Cinquanta, rese note per la serie “Avvenimenti”, le

stesse che gli resero riconoscimenti e fortuna internazionale.

Dal Novecento al contemporaneo il

passo è breve, anzi brevissimo.

Dalla Collezione Guggenheim in pochi passi si

giunge a Punta della Dogana, grandioso spazio

dedicati ai capolavori della Collezione Pinault.

Qui troviamo Icone, una sorprendente selezione

di opere di artisti internazionali che portano a riflettere

sul tema dell’icona e sullo status dell’immagine

come la percepiamo nei nostri giorni.

C’è poi la fotografia con Chronorama, allestita

nella prestigiosa sede di Palazzo Grassi, importante

selezione di immagini proveniente dall’Archivio

Condé Nast su temi, fenomeni e personaggi

che hanno caratterizzato il secolo passato.

A questa si aggiungono due importanti retrospettive,

dedicate rispettivamente a Inge Morath,

200 scatti focalizzati su Venezia che la fotografa

austriaca realizzò per la nota agenzia Magnum, a

Palazzo Grimani e al fotografo italiano Ugo Mulas,

in omaggio ai cinquant’anni dalla scomparsa, che

inaugura le nuove “Stanze della Fotografia” presso

la Fondazione Giorgio Cini.

Sempre per il panorama

espositivo attesissima come

sempre, sarà la Mostra Internazionale

di Architettura

presentata da La Biennale di

Venezia, e visibile nelle sue

tradizionali sedi ai Giardini e

all’Arsenale a partire da sabato

20 maggio.

La seguiranno nove eventi

collaterali diffusi nel tessuto

urbano della città e alcune

esposizioni aperte per l’occasione,

tra le quali quella

presentata alla Fondazione

Gorgio Cini presso le Vatican

Chapels, con dieci

grandi nomi della fotografia

mondiale.

Ancora nel mese ricordiamo dal 14 maggio la mostra sui grandi maestri del Vetro Boemo,

alle Stanze del Vetro; lo spettacolare progetto espositivo Thus waves come in pairs

presso la sede di Ocean Space all’ex Chiesa di San Lorenzo e infine, la coinvolgente

mostra interattiva A World of Potential arricchita di recente dalla sorprendente installazione

di Arthur Duff con la quale i visitatori potranno creare un’opera d’arte, quest’ultima

negli splendidi spazi rivisitati delle Procuratie Vecchie presso Piazza san Marco.

Dall' Arte, in ogni sua sfaccettatura, alla Musica.

Anche qui il panorama è interessante con concerti in chiese e palazzi e l’attraente programmazione

del Teatro La Fenice che vede a maggio le rappresentazioni d’opera dell’

Orfeo e Euridice di Gluck e del Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno di Haendel. A queste,

si affi anca il balletto Lac | da Il Lago dei Cigni di Pëtr Il’ič Čajkovskij con Les Ballets di

Montecarlo e, per la stagione sinfonica, il concerto del maestro Min Chung con brani di

Mendelssohn e Brahms.

Da segnalare inoltre il Festival Galuppi e della Musica dedicato al grande operista settecentesco

con un programma che toccherà importanti sedi in città.

Chiudiamo con tre manifestazioni che interpretano a loro modo una passione che da

sempre accomuna i veneziani: quella per il mare.

La prima, in calendario domenica 20, è la Festa della Sensa, ricorrenza che nel giorno

dell’Ascensione segna da oltre mille anni uno dei più famosi riti della antica Serenissima

Repubblica: lo "Sposalizio con il Mare".

Un corteo in costume e una cerimonia nelle acque antistanti l’antica chiesa di San Nicolò

del Lido celebrano questa giornata con il simbolico lancio di un anello, a immagine di

un’ideale unione della città con il mare.

La seconda è la Vogalonga, con il Redentore e la Regata storica, la più spettacolare

manifestazione acquea dell’anno, nota come la maratona della laguna. Nata a difesa

della città con un forte spirito ambientalista, impersona lo spirito e la grande tradizione

veneziana del remo che, sempre più nel tempo, ha saputo conquistare appassionati

della voga da ogni parte del mondo.

Lo spettacolo, atteso per domenica 28, sarà per tutti: protagonisti e pubblico.

Seguirà di qualche giorno, mercoledì 31, l’ultimo grande appuntamento del mese, Il Salone

nautico di Venezia. Una vera e propria festa per tutti gli appassionati di marineria

con un’esposizione di imbarcazioni di ogni dimensione e foggia, stand di accessoristica

ed eventi di vario genere, tutti inseriti in un ennesimo, straordinario contesto, il bacino

dell’antico Arsenale. D.R.


FROM CARPACCIO TO THE BIENNALE TO THE VOGALONGA

THE UNMISSABLE VENICE...

With the month of May, Venice enters into the core of its offers, from purely touristic, to cultural, up to ones represented

by major events. Let us see briefly what may interest a city Guest mostly, starting from an exhibition scenario

ranging from ancient to modern, up to the contemporary, open to painting, photography, design and architecture.

Among current exhibitions, the one presented by the City Museums undoubtedly stands out, dedicated to a Venetian

painting-tradition old master, Vittore Carpaccio.

In what used to be the Doge’s apartments at the Ducal Palace, one may get immersed in the spectacular Sixteenth-century

scene illustrated by this great artist, amongst the most original, imaginative and inventive painters

of the Venetian Renaissance.

Painting once again, but light years away, both in manner and inventiveness. We are now fully in modern art, represented

by another Venetian master, Edmondo Bacci, whom the Peggy Guggenheim Collection has recently presented

at its venues, focusing on his canvas work of the Fifties, renowned for the “Avvenimenti” series, the very same

ones which brought him international recognition and fortune.

From the Twentieth century to the contemporary, the step is short, very short indeed. From the Guggenheim Collection

one may reach the Punta della Dogana, a magnificent space dedicated to the Pinault Collection masterpieces,

in a few paces. Here we shall find Icons, a startling selection of works by international artists leading to reflections

on the theme of icons and on the status of image as we perceive it nowadays.

Then there is photography with Chronorama, set up within the prestigious headquarters at Palazzo Grassi, an important

selection of images from the Condé Nast Archive on themes, phenomena and figureheads characterising

the past century. There are also two important retrospectives, respectively dedicated to Inge Morath at Palazzo

Grimani, 200 shots focused on Venice which the Austrian photographer created for the famous Magnum agency,

and to Ugo Mulas, inaugurating the new “Photography Rooms” at the Giorgio Cini Foundation, in a tribute to him

fifty years since his demise.

Also for the exhibition scenario, as always, there will be the highly anticipated International Architecture Exhibition

presented by the Venice Biennale, visible at its traditional locations at the Gardens and at the Arsenal from

Saturday, 20 May. It will be followed by nine collateral events spread throughout town, and certain exhibitions open

for the occasion, including the one presented at the Giorgio Cini Foundation in the Vatican Chapels with ten top

names in world photography.

This month we may also recall the exhibition on great masters of Bohemian Glass, at the Glass Rooms from 14 May;

the spectacular Thus waves come in pairs showcase project at the Ocean Space venue inside the former Church

of San Lorenzo and, finally, the engaging A World of Potential interactive exhibition, recently enriched by Arthur

Duff’s astonishing installation with which visitors can create a work of art, the latter at the renewed Procuratie

Vecchie spaces in Saint Mark’s Square.

From exhibitions to Music, the scenario is also attractive in May, with concerts in churches and palaces, and the

appealing Fenice Theatre billboard featuring the opera performances of Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice and Händel’s Triumph

of Time and Disillusion. These are in addition to the Lac | from Swan Lake ballet by Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky with

the Monte-Carlo Ballets and, for the symphonic season, a concert by maestro Min Chung with music by Mendelssohn

and Brahms. Also noteworthy is the Galuppi and Music Festival dedicated to the great eighteenth-century opera

composer with a program that will touch important venues in the city.

We are ending with three events, each in their own way interpreting an enduring Venetians’ passion: the sea.

The first, scheduled for Sunday 20, is the Fête of the Sensa on Ascension Day, marking one of the most famous

among ancient Serene Republic rites for over a thousand years: the Wedding the Sea. A boat-parade in costume and

a ceremony in the waters in front of the ancient church of San Nicolò at the Lido are celebrating this day with the

symbolic launch of a ring, symbolising an ideal union between the city and the sea.

The second is the Vogalonga, the most spectacular water event of the year together with the Redeemer and the

Historic Regatta, known as the lagoon marathon. Born with a strong environmental attitude in defence of the city,

it embodies the spirit of the oar and its great Venetian tradition, increasingly capable of winning over rowing enthusiasts,

over the years and from all over the world. The event, expected for Sunday 28, will be for everyone, both

protagonists and public.

The final major event of the month, the Venice Nautical Salon, will follow a few days afterwards, on Wednesday 31.

A true celebration for all marine enthusiasts, with an exhibition of boats coming in all sizes and shapes, accessories

booths and events of various sorts, all within the setting of yet another, exceptional context, the harbour of the

ancient Arsenal.

GALLERIE D’ARTE

UN TESORO DA SCOPRIRE

Venezia, città d’arte per eccellenza, presenta infinite possibilità di scoperta,

dalle grandi collezioni museali alle gallerie, un tempo spazi quasi

esclusivi per artisti, critici e appassionati, oggi ricercate anche da un

pubblico che sempre più vuol avvicinarsi alla conoscenza dell’arte.

Ecco allora per il nostro lettore un ideale itinerario che da una prestigiosa

collezione pubblica ci porterà a due tra le più note gallerie veneziane.

Partiamo da Ca’Pesaro, splendido

palazzo affacciato sul Canal

Grande, capolavoro dell’architettura

barocca veneziana, oggi

sede della Galleria Internazionale

d’Arte Moderna, inserita nel

patrimonio dei Musei Civici della

città.

Posta nel sestiere di San Polo a

meno di dieci minuti dai due poli

nevralgici di Rialto e Stazione ferroviaria,

Ca’ Pesaro offre la possibilità

di ammirare una delle più

belle raccolte di opere d’arte della

città, avviata in occasione della

seconda edizione della Biennale

e resa in seguito visibile nei suoi

spazi (era il 1902) grazie alla donazione della duchessa Felicita Bevilacqua La Masa.

Negli anni, il suo patrimonio si è arricchito di opere di maestri del Novecento italiano ed

europeo, annoverando capolavori quali Il pensatore di Auguste Rodin e Giuditta II di Gustave

Klimt. Oggi c’è un’occasione in più per concedersi una visita alla Galleria, la donazione, da

poco presentata, di Gemma De Angelis Testa.

Si tratta per estensione e qualità di una delle più importanti donazioni ricevute dal museo,

composta da un centinaio di opere di protagonisti della scena artistica contemporanea:

da Rauschenberg e Twombly a Pistoletto e Calzolari; passando per Kiefer, De Dominicis,

Clemente, Cucchi, Schifano, fino all’altra metà dell’avanguardia con Abramovic, Beecroft,

Hofer, Mori, Neshat. Le scelte e i percorsi del gusto della collezionista partono dalla metà

del secolo scorso e sviluppano un dialogo continuo con la produzione di Armando Testa,

rappresentato nella collezione da 17 capolavori.

Da Ca’Pesaro in direzione Rialto, si arriva presto all’iconico ponte secentesco da dove possiamo

ammirare le splendide vedute su entrambi i lati del Canal Grande.

Una volta scesi, prendiamo direzione verso campo San Salvador e poi San Luca, imboccando

da quest’ultimo Calle dei Fuseri. Oltrepassato il ponte e prendendo a destra si arriva

dopo pochi metri in Campo San Fantin.

Qui troviamo la Bugno Art Gallery, una delle più rappresentative

gallerie d’arte veneziane, luogo ideale di ritrovo tra artisti

e appassionati d’arte, inserita tra due poli della cultura veneziana,

il Gran Teatro La Fenice e l’Ateneo Veneto.

Diretta con passione da oltre trent’anni da Massimiliano Bugno

si presenta su due spazi, la sede effettiva, affacciata sul

campo, e un suggestivo pied-à-terre adiacente inserito subito

alla destra, in una tipica “corte” denominato appunto, In Corte.

Qui, tra travi a vista e una caratteristica "porta d’acqua", si presentano

importanti retrospettive come quella che possiamo

attualmente ammirare dedicata al maestro friulano, veneziano

di adozione, Armando Pizzinato (1910- 2004), del quale la

Galleria detiene il prezioso Archivio storico.

La mostra, di valore museale, allinea una straordinaria sequenza

di opere che ripercorrono la storia dell’artista a partire

dagli anni Trenta e dal “Fronte Nuovo” a quello che il critico

Mazzariol definì il “Quarto Tempo”.

In tutto, una cinquantina di opere disposte oltre che presso la

galleria in altre due spazi, la Demarco Arte, e la Bugno Demarco,

con selezioni rispettivamente dedicate a “Nature morte”

degli anni Trenta e Quaranta e ai “Paesaggi veneziani” degli

anni Settanta e Ottanta.

La galleria Bugno annovera inoltre, tra le sue collezioni, opere

di artisti contemporanei e noti autori della fotografia.

Da Campo San Fantin proseguiamo per l’ultima nostra meta, sbucando ad un passo da San Marco e dalla

sua Piazza, cuore pulsante della città. Siamo in Calle Larga XXII Marzo, una delle vie più ricercate dal

turismo, quella delle grandi "griffe" internazionali.

Qui non ci si può sbagliare, un atrio con due grandi vetrine aprono le porte alla Contini Arte, non solo una

galleria, ma un vero e proprio scrigno d'arte.

A dirigerla, come un maestro d’orchestra, c’è Stefano Contini, ideatore, fondatore e proprietario della

galleria che oggi conta ben cinque sedi, disposte tra Venezia e Cortina d’Ampezzo con oltre 1000 metri

quadrati di esposizione.

Contini - possiamo affermare - oggi interpreta la versione moderna di quello che fu un ruolo fondamentale

nella storia, quello del “mercante d’arte”. Il suo fiuto, la sua passione, la sua esperienza ultraquarantennale,

l’hanno portato al successo e a condurre una galleria che oggi è tra le più note in Italia, e non

solo. "L’arte" - dice - “è come un arcobaleno, infinitamente affascinante”.


In effetti è tale la meraviglia che suscitano

le opere esposte - la galleria

principale è inserita in un’elegante

palazzo modernista - che una visita

qui è paragonabile a quella di una

vera e propria collezione.

Da qui, lungo le sale per i quattro

piani del palazzo, si trovano maestri

del calibro di Fernando Botero, Pablo

Atchugarry, Igor Mitoraj , Manolo Valdés,

Zoran Music, Julio Larraz, Park

Eun Sun e italiani come Enzo Fiore,

Mario Arlati, Paolo Vegas...

Presto, a partire da giugno, proprio a

Julio Larraz, pittore realista considerato

tra i maggiori esponenti dell’arte

caraibica, la Galleria d’Arte Contini dedicherà

una grande mostra retrospettiva

dal titolo “The Allegory of dream”.

ART GALLERY

A TREASURE TO DISCOVER

Venice, the city of art par excellence, presents endless possibilities for discovery,

from large museum collections to galleries, once an almost exclusive space for

artists, critics and enthusiasts, but nowadays also sought by the public, increasingly

wishing to approach artistic knowledge.

Here is an ideal itinerary for our reader, taking us from a prestigious public collection

to two of the most well-known Venetian galleries.

Let us start from Ca’Pesaro, a splendid

palace overlooking the Grand

Canal, a masterpiece of Venetian

Baroque architecture, now home to

the International Gallery of Modern

Art, and part of the town’s City Museums

heritage .

Located in the district of San Polo,

less than ten minutes away from the

two key centres of Rialto and the

train Station, Ca’ Pesaro offers the opportunity

to admire one of the most

beautiful collections of artworks in

town, created on the occasion of the

second edition of the Biennale and

shown at the Ca’ Pesaro venues (it

was 1902) thanks to a donation of

duchess Felicita Bevilacqua La Masa.

Over the years, its heritage has been

enriched with artworks by Italian and European masters, including masterpieces such as The Thinker by

Auguste Rodin and Judith II by Gustave Klimt.

Today there is another opportunity for visiting the Gallery: the recently bequeathed donation by Gemma

De Angelis Testa. It is one of the most important donations received by the museum, both in extent

and quality, consisting of a hundred works by figureheads of the contemporary art scene: from Rauschenberg

and Twombly to Pistoletto and Calzolari; passing through Kiefer, De Dominicis, Clemente,

Cucchi, Schifano, up to the other half of avant-garde with Abramovic, Beecroft, Hofer, Mori, Neshat.

The patroness’s taste regarding choices and circuits commence from the middle of the past century,

and develop a continuous dialogue with Armando Testa’s production, represented by 17 masterpieces

within the collection.

From Ca’ Pesaro towards Rialto, this iconic Seventeenth-century bridge is soon reached, from where

lovely views on both banks of the Grand Canal may be admired.

On stepping down from it we head towards Campo San Salvador and then San Luca square, entering

Calle dei Fuseri from the latter. After crossing the bridge and bearing right, Campo San Fantin square is

reached after a few metres.


Here we find the Bugno Art Gallery, one

of the most representative Venetian art

galleries, an ideal meeting place for artists

and art lovers, located between two hubs

of Venetian culture, La Fenice Grand Theatre

and the Ateneo Veneto.

Managed with passion for over thirty years

by Massimiliano Bugno, it features two

spaces, the actual headquarters, overlooking

the square, and a suggestive adjacent

space immediately located to the right, in

a typical courtyard named In Corte. Important

retrospectives are presented here,

among exposed beams and a typical canal-gateway,

such as the one to be currently

admired dedicated to Friulian master,

and adopted Venetian, Armando Pizzinato

(1910-2004), whose valuable Historical Archive is held by the Gallery.

This museum-level exhibition lines up an extraordinary sequence of artworks retracing the artist’s career

from the Thirties and from the “New Front”, to what art critic Mazzariol termed the “Fourth Time”.

In all, about fifty works displayed in two more venues in addition to the gallery, Demarco Arte and

Bugno Demarco, with selections respectively dedicated to “Still Lives” from the Thirties and Forties

and “Venetian landscapes” from the Seventies and Eighties.

Among its collections, the Bugno gallery also features works by contemporary artists and well-known

photography authors.

From Campo San Fantin towards the final destination, emerging a step away from Saint Mark and its

Square, the beating heart of the town. We are in Calle Larga XXII Marzo, one of the most sought-after

streets by tourism, featuring top international fashion brands.

Here it is not possible to go wrong: a foyer with two large windows opens its doors to the Contini

Arte, not only a gallery, but a true art hub.

Stefano Contini manages it, almost like an orchestra conductor, as the creator, founder and owner of

the gallery which now numbers a good five venues, located between Venice and Cortina d’Ampezzo,

with over 1000 square metres of exhibition space.

Contini, it may be said, interprets today’s modern version of what used to be a central role in history,

that of the “art dealer”. His instinct, his passion, his experience over forty years, have all led him to

success, and to head a gallery which is among the best-known in Italy nowadays, and not only. “Art” -

he says - “is like a rainbow, endlessly fascinating”.

Indeed, the artworks exhibited at the Contini Galleries, the main one located within an elegant

modernist palace in Via XXII Marzo,

evoke such wonder that a visit here

is comparable to one at an actual art

collection.

Here, masters such as Fernando Botero,

Pablo Atchugarry, Igor Mitoraj,

Manolo Valdés, Zoran Music, Julio

Larraz, Park Eun Sun, and Italians such

as Enzo Fiore, Mario Arlati and Paolo

Vegas may be found throughout the

halls on all four floors of the palace...

Soon, starting in June, the Contini Art

Gallery will dedicate a large retrospective

exhibition titled “The Allegory of

dream” to realist painter Julio Larraz,

considered to be among the greatest

exponents of Caribbean art.

AMONG ART AND CRAFTS

In una città ricca di storia, di arte e di eventi, immancabilmente,

l’artigianato e il talento creativo, fioriscono.

La Gioielleria Dogale ne è un esempio e Giorgio

Berto, uno degli ultimi maestri orafi rimasti in città,

ne è il suo mentore.

Con i figli Alessandro e Ursula gestisce con la passione

che solo un vero artigiano può avere nei confronti

di quella che considera un’arte, il suo atelier,

lavorando dal vivo l’oro.

Chiunque con i propri occhi può vederlo far nascere

piccoli oggetti preziosi e unici, come lo sono i “Moretti

veneziani”, un gioiello della antica tradizione,

pensato per rappresentare la vittoria di Venezia sui

pirati turchi e che alla Dogale si produce praticamente

da fine anni ’50.

Altre preziose proposte sono rappresentate dagli

anelli con pietre incise; dagli anelli Chevalier con stemmi nobiliari e dai gioielli Vanitas, ovvero i memento

mori a soggetto teschio: da quelli allegri e vivaci, a quelli in stile messicano o rock. Così, per l’atelier di

Giorgio Berto sono passati la contessa Marzotto, il finanziere Robert de Balkany e clienti esigenti dell’aristocrazia

europea, ma anche galleristi, stilisti e grandi imprenditori da tutto il mondo. Chi ha il piacere

di assistere alla sua arte potrà scoprire la Gioielleria Dogale a due passi da Piazza San Marco. Imboccando

Calle della Canonica, posta sulla sinistra guardando la Basilica, si passerà l’omonimo ponte fino,

dopo pochi metri, ad incrociare le sue vetrine.

In a town so rich in history, art and events, craftsmanship

and creative talent will inevitably flourish.

Dogale Jewellery is an example and Giorgio Berto, one

of the last master goldsmiths left in town, is its mentor.

With the passion that only a true craftsman can have towards

what he considers an art, he manages his atelier along

his sons Alessandro and Ursula, refining gold in real time.

Anyone can see him creating small precious and unique objects

with their own eyes, like the “Venetian Moretti”, a jewel

of ancient tradition, designed to represent the victory of

Venice over Turkish pirates and that have been essentially

produced at the Dogale since the late 50s.

Other precious proposals are represented by the rings with

engraved stones; the Chevalier rings with noble coats of

arms and the Vanitas jewels, namely the skull-themed memento

mori: from the cheerful and lively ones to those in Mexican or rock style. Many have passed through the atelier

of Giorgio Berto such as the countess Marzotto, the financier Robert de Balkany and demanding customers of the

European aristocracy, but also gallerists, designers and great entrepreneurs from all over the world.

Those who wish to witness his art may find Dogale Jewellery a few steps away from Saint Mark’s Square.

• VITTORE CARPACCIO. Dipinti e Disegni

La Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia,

in collaborazione con la National

Art Gallery di Washington celebra a

Palazzo Ducale, a sessant’anni dalla

prima storica mostra del 1963, il grande

pittore della Serenissima che visse a cavallo

tra il Quattro e il Cinquecento.

La rassegna che segue quella di recente realizzata

a Washington, presenta quarantacinque

dipinti a tema religioso, profano o di genere (tra

essi alcuni di grandi dimensioni) che evidenziano

le grandi doti immaginative, narrative, descrittive,

oltre alla sapiente tecnica pittorica dell’artista.

Unitamente, un folto nucleo di disegni dimostra

la sua speciale capacità di “studiare” in maniera

minuziosa e dettagliata la realtà dell’epoca.

Curata da Peter Humfrey, Andrea Bellieni e

Gretchen Hirschauer la mostra sarà visibile al

pubblico fino al 18 giugno.

Un’ottantina di opere, tra dipinti e disegni

inediti, provenienti dall’Archivio

Edmondo Bacci, musei e collezioni

private nazionali e internazionali, riportano

idealmente a Ca’ Venier dei

Leoni l’artista veneziano tanto caro a Peggy Guggenheim.

Curata da Chiara Bertola, la mostra si concentra

sul periodo più lirico e felice della produzione

di Bacci, ovvero gli anni ’50, che hanno segnato

il successo nonché la consacrazione dell’artista,

avvenuta nel 1958 nel corso della XXIX Biennale

Internazionale d’Arte di Venezia.

Tra le opere esposte quella che Alfred Barr, allora

direttore del Museum of Modern Art di New

York, acquistò nel 1953. La tela, nota come “Avvenimento

13 R”, oggi parte della collezione del museo

newyorkese, ritorna eccezionalmente in Italia,

per essere esposta per la prima volta al pubblico.

La mostra chiude con un'importante opera di Tiepolo,

tributo alla tradizione pittorica veneziana.

• VITTORE CARPACCIO. Paintings and Drawings

Sixty years after the first historic exhibition in

1963, the Venice City Museums Foundation, in

collaboration with the Washington National Art

Gallery, is celebrating this Serene Republic’s

great painter who lived between the Fifteenth

and Sixteenth centuries, at the Ducal Palace.

Following the recent one in Washington, this

showcase presents forty-five paintings with a religious,

secular or genre theme (with some largesized

ones among them), highlighting the artist’s

great imaginative, narrative and descriptive skills,

as well as his knowledgeable painting technique.

Collectively, a large group of drawings demonstrates

his special ability to "study" the reality of

the age in a meticulous and detailed manner.

The exhibition, by curators Peter Humfrey, Andrea

Bellieni and Gretchen Hirschauer, will be

visible to the public until 18 June.

Around eighty artworks, between unpublished

paintings and drawings, from the Edmondo Bacci

Archive, national and international museums

and private collections, ideally bringing back this

Venetian artist so dear to Peggy Guggenheim at

Ca' Venier dei Leoni.

By curator Chiara Bertola, the exhibition concentrates

on the most lyrical and happy period

in Bacci's production, or the 1950s, marking the

artist's success as well as his consecration, which

took place in 1958 during the 29th International

Art Biennale of Venice. Among the works

displayed, was the one which Alfred Barr, then

the director of the Museum of Modern Art in

New York, bought in 1953. This canvas, known

as "Event 13 R", and now part of the New York

museum collection, is returning exceptionally to

Italy to be exhibited in public for the first time.

di circa 200 scatti focalizzati su Venezia che la

fotografa austriaca, inviata della nota agenzia Magnum,

realizzò in Laguna per la rivista d’arte L’Oeil.

Il progetto che cade in concomitanza con i cento

anni della nascita della Morath (Graz 1923- 2002)

viene completato da una selezione di importanti

reportage fotografici dedicati a vari Paesi, oltre

che da una sezione dedicata ai ritratti verso i quali

l’artista si era dedicata negli ultimi anni.

Riaprono con una importante mostra dedicata al

vetro boemo, Le Stanze del Vetro, progetto culturale

pluriennale pensato e dedicato all’arte e al

Museo di Arti Decorative di Praga, presenterà sei

grandi maestri della scultura contemporanea in

vetro, raccontando l'evoluzione, dopo la seconda

guerra mondiale, del vetro in Boemia: dalla

decorativa a un utilizzo per la realizzazione di importanti

sculture astratte.

A WORLD OF POTENTIAL

• A WORLD OF POTENTIAL

Hosted on the third floor at the Old Procuratie,

the headquarters of The Human Safety Net, a

foundation created by the Generali group with

the aim of offering new potential to vulnerable

persons, this exhibition, by curator Orna Cohen,

is presented as an experiential journey in which

visitors are invited into a sequence of experiences

which increase their self-awareness and the

perception of the world at the same time.

In the final part, visitors will be able to gather

information about the foundation’s activity and

to donate half of their ticket cost to one of the

programmes (freely chosen) managed by the

Foundation itself.

Arthur Duff’s new installation “The Hungriest

Eye. The blossoming of Potential" is part of the

circuit, as a new collaborative space where visitors

can take part in the creation of an artwork,

expressing their potential.

Promoted by the Veneto Museums Regional

Management and displayed within the spaces of

Renaissance Palazzo Grimani, from 18 January

this exhibition will present a corpus of about 200

photographs focused on Venice, that the Austrian

photographer, a correspondent for the wellknown

Magnum agency, shot in the Lagoon for

L'Oeil art magazine.

The project, which coincides with Morath's one

hundredth birth centenary (Graz 1923- 2002), is

completed by a selection of important photographic

reportages dedicated to various countries.

• BOHEMIAN GLASS: the great masters.

The Rooms of Glass are reopening with an important

exhibition dedicated to Bohemian glass, a

long-term cultural project dedicated to glass art

and design. The exhibition, organised in collaboration

with the Prague Museum of Decorative

Arts, will present six great masters of contemporary

glass sculpture, recounting the evolution

of glass in Bohemia after the Second World War:

from its traditional categorisation under applied

and decorative art, to its employment in the creation

of important abstract sculptures.

Twenty photographs by Josef Sudek from the

Glass Labyrinths series complete the circuit.

Taking part in a collective exhibition designed to

park, by as many world-famous architects, for the

serie di opere fotografiche provenienti dagli

archivi di Condé Nast, in parte recentemente

Located within the venues of Palazzo Grassi,

this exhibition presents a series of photography

works in world premiere from the Condé Nast

archives, partly acquired recently by the Pinault

Collection.

It features over four hundred pictures created

by 150 important artists at an international level,

tracing an exciting path through events, social

phenomena and celebrities spanning the 20th

century, from the 1910s up to the early 1980s.

This nucleus of historical pictures is accompanied

by an ideal "Chronorama Redux" dialogue,

a project offering a contemporary viewpoint on

the "Chronorama” artworks through the work of

four artists: Tarrah Krajnak, Eric N. Mack, Giulia

performances, which invite the viewer to share

Inserita negli spazi dell’ex Convitto presso la

Fondazione Cini, in occasione del nuovo Centro

un’importante selezione di immagini vintage mai

esposte prima.

In collaborazione con l’Archivio Mulas e curata da

Denis Curti e Alberto Salvadori, la retrospettiva che

coincide con i 50 anni dalla scomparsa dell’autore,

raccoglie in un'ideale sintesi lungo 14 sezioni, più

di 300 immagini, tra cui 30 foto mai esposte prima

Sensibile all’invito di Jean-Michel Wilmotte, l’artista

plastico vietnamita Bao Vuong presenta negli

spazi veneziani della Fondazione creata del noto

architetto, una serie di opere inedite che rinnovano

la percezione su Venezia e sulla resilienza dei

veneziani di fronte all’imperversare del tempo e

della natura.

La sua visione si realizza attraverso una serie di

pannelli in legno e grandi masse di pittura ad olio

di colore nero, su cui l’artista in una sorta di invocazione

ripete ogni singola onda della laguna.

Set up in the former Convitto building, for the occasion

of the inauguration of the new "The Photography

Rooms " exhibition and research centre

within the Giorgio Cini Foundation, in a joint initiative

with Marsilio Arte, this exhibition presents an

important selection of vintage pictures for the first

time, and never exhibited before.

In collaboration with the Mulas Archive, and by

curators Denis Curti and Alberto Salvadori, the

retrospective, which coincides with the author's

50th death anniversary, collects over 300 pictures

exhibited before, as well as documents, books,

Receptive to Jean-Michel Wilmotte’s invitation to

the Venetian venues of the Foundation created

by this famous architect, Vietnamese plastic artist

Bao Vuong is presenting a series of novel artworks

renewing the perception on Venice and on

the resilience of Venetians in facing the buffeting

of time and nature. The artist’s vision is created

through a series of wooden panels and large masses

of black oil-painting, on which the artist repeats

every single wave in the lagoon, as a kind of invocation.

The Golden Tree Foundation presents

an important exhibition project at its

headquarters in Palazzo Vendramin

Grimani, recounting Manucci’s human

adventure and atypical journey,

This exhibition gathers his entire legacy

for the first time, consisting not only of

the Red Book and the Black Book, but

also of two precious manuscripts which

are present thanks to the collaboration between

the Paris Bibliothèque Nationale de France, the

Berlin State Library and the Venice Marciana Library.

Having taught painting and extra-medial techniques

at the Venice Academy of Fine Arts over

the years, Aldo Grazzi has been developing an

aesthetic reflection since the 1970s leading him

to work using different expressive media, from

painting to photography, to videos and music.

This exhibition, presented by Spazio Berlendis,

shows a series of artworks created between 1994

and 2006 using fibre-nets as a support on which

to draw impalpable and visionary figures and geometries

with scissors.

“the art of Venetian tableware”.

Anna Moro – Lin bequest

Anna Moro-Lin is one of the Fiber Art. protagonists,

the Textile Art developed since the Twentieth

century thanks to French artist Jean Lurçat, a

pioneer of this art harking back to tapestry. The

exhibition presents a nucleus of 20 of his artworks,

donated by the recently deceased artiste

to the Palazzo Mocenigo Museum, now home to

the Centre for the History of Textiles, Costume

and Perfume.

The circuit winds through twenty rooms on the

noble first floor, doubling the exhibition venues

which opened in 1985. The exhibition, by curator

Chiara Squarcina, will remain visible until 20 August.

Simon Berger is a Swiss artist, known for his

glass-engraved portraits.

The Venice City Museums and Berengo Studio

are presenting his installation at the Glass Museum

all new, which explore the fragility of the

human condition through the artist’s hypnotic

and innovative sculpture.

Gestiti dalla Fondazione Musei Civici

di Venezia nota con l’acronimo

MUVE, rappresentano una parte, con oltre

700.000 opere d’arte, dell’immenso patrimonio

culturale della città.

Sono in tutto undici musei gestiti da un unico

sistema che MUVE valorizza anche attraverso

importanti mostre d’arte.

Tra questi quelli di Palazzo Ducale, del Correr,

di Ca’ Pesaro, di Ca’Rezzonico…

L’ingresso alle sedi può avvenire con un singolo

prezioso museo, le monumentali basiliche

dei Frari e dei SS Giovanni e Paolo; le Scuole

grandi, veri scrigni d’arte, di San Rocco, di

VENICE AND ITS MUSEUMS

Few cities in Italy (and in Europe) may boast a museum scenario

like this city’s. Set inside fine palaces and ancient abodes

within a radius of a few hundred metres, they are an integral

part of the huge cultural heritage the city assimilated over its

centuries of history.

But how to choose a museum, or museums, to most attract

one’s curiosity and desire for knowledge? Here in brief, is how

to find your way around.

Information in detail follows instead about the major ones.

City Museums

Managed by the Venice City Museums Foundation

known by its acronym MUVE, they represent a part of

the city’s huge cultural heritage, with over 700,000 artworks.

Eleven museums in total, run by a single body, boosted by

MUVE also with notable art exhibitions.

They include the Ducal Palace, the Correr, Ca’Pesaro, Ca’Rezzonico…

Entry to such venues is by a single ticket, or the

“Museum Pass” circuit system, or the “Saint Mark’s Museums”

integrated circuit.

State Museums

Five in town and three in Venetian territory, these

museums managed by the Ministry of Culture - Regional

Directorate for Museums - are part of a museum system

featuring some of the area’s top museums, including the

Galleries of the Accademia and the Giorgio Franchetti Gallery

in Venice among others, and Villa Pisani in Stra along the

Brenta Riviera.

Other museums

This section lists privately-managed museums or

ones run by individual Foundations. We may here

mention for importance the Peggy Guggenheim Collection;

the Querini Stampalia Picture-Gallery; the Palazzo Cini collections.

Churches, Devotion Schools

and religious museums

Churches and devotion schools, the latter being ancient

town guilds, are also part of the city’s museum heritage.

Among them, for importance, we find the basilica of Saint

Mark at the very top with its precious museum, the monumental

basilicas of the Frari and of Saints Giovanni & Paolo;

the Scuole Grandi of San Rocco, San Giovanni Evangelista, the

Carmini, San Giorgio dei Greci, true art coffers; plus the Jewish

and the Hellenic ones among the museums.

Museums and Villas on the territory

The Museums spread over the Venetian hinterland

territory are many, and important. In addition there

are the Veneto villas, exceptional examples of harmony amid

architecture, art and landscape. As with the museums, this

scenario is also quite vast. We are (unfortunately) mentioning

just a part.

I temi della Mostra sono l’Africa, la decolonizzazione

e la decarbonizzazione.

La Mostra, strutturata in sei sezioni, inizia nel Padiglione

Centrale ai Giardini dove sono presentati

16 studi che rappresentano un distillato (Force

Majeure) della produzione architettonica africana

e diasporica, continua poi all’Arsenale con la sezione

intitolata Dangerous Liaisons (Relazioni Pericolose),

segue un complesso di circa 30 Progetti

Speciali suddivisi in categorie: Mnemonica che

esamina il rapporto tra memoria e architettura;

Cibo, Agricoltura e Cambiamento Climatico che

approfondisce la relazione tra cambiamento climatico,

pratiche territoriali e produzione alimentare;

Geografia e Genere che indaga il rapporto tra

genere, architettura e performance; Guests from

the Future presenta le opere di 22 giovani “practitioner”

africani e diasporici; infine vi sono tre Partecipazioni

Speciali presenti all’Arsenale: il regista

Amos Gitaï; il poeta architetto Rhael ‘LionHeart’

Cape, Hon FRIBA e il fotografo James Morris.

La mostra resterà aperta sino a domenica 26 novembre

2023.

ARCHITECTURE BIENNALE 2023

The Laboratory of the Future: is the title chosen

by curator Lesley Lokko for the 18th International

Architecture Exhibition in Venice.

Lesley Lokko is a Dundee born Ghanaian-Scottish

architect, academic and novelist. She is the

founder of the African Futures Institute (Accra,

Ghana) in 2020 as a postgraduate school of architecture

and public events platform. In 2015 she

founded the Graduate School of Architecture in

Johannesburg. She has taught in the UK, in the

US, Europe, Australia and Africa. She is the recipient

of a number of awards for contributions to

architectural education.

The Laboratory of the Future is an exhibition in 6

parts with 89 Participants, over ½ of whom are

from Africa or the African Diaspora. The gender

balance is 50/50. The average age of participants

is 43, dropping to 37 in the Curator’s Special Projects,

where the youngest is 24.

“Central to all the projects is the primacy and

potency of one tool: the imagination”– Lokko

opined. It is impossible to build a better world if

one cannot first imagine it.

The Giardini’s Central Pavilion presents 16 practices

- a distilled Force Majeure of African and

Diasporic architectural production. The Arsenale

houses participants in the Dangerous Liaisons section

and these rub shoulders with the expanded

Curator’s Special Projects. At both venues are

young African and Diasporan practitioners – part

of the Guests from the Future - work develops twin

themes of decolonisation and decarbonisation.

Calling participants ‘practitioners’– Lokko states

– and not architects and/or urbanists, designers,

landscape architects, engineers or academics is

because it is our contention that the rich, complex

conditions of both Africa and a rapidly hybridising

world call for a different and broader

understanding of the term ‘architect’.

The exhibition runs from 20th May until Sunday

26th November, 2023.

A VENEZIA

Venezia è una città-isola, o meglio, è una città formata da una moltitudine

di piccolissime isole (circa 110): una configurazione praticamente unica al

mondo. Il suo accesso sembrerebbe quindi complesso. Ma così non è.

Venezia mantiene un “cordone ombelicale” con il mondo, o meglio con la

terraferma (come i veneziani chiamano tutto ciò che è fuori dall’isola).

Questo è il ponte della Libertà, un tempo chiamato Littorio, dal periodo della

sua costruzione, gli anni Trenta.

La sua origine è però antecedente e risale a metà Ottocento, esattamente al

1846 data dell’inaugurazione della linea ferroviaria Milano-Venezia.

Da quel tempo, la città diventò raggiungibile non solo via acqua ma anche via

terra… sarà una svolta epocale.

Ma ecco in breve oggi, quali sono i principali punti di accesso alla città.

GETTING TO VENICE

Venice is an island-city, or rather, it is a city made up of a multitude of tiny islands (about 110): a configuration

that is practically unique in the world. Accessing it would thus seem complex. But this is not the case.

Venice maintains an “umbilical cord” with the world, or rather with the mainland (as the Venetians call

everything off the island). It is the Libertà Bridge, once called Littorio from its construction period, the 1930s.

However, its origin is earlier and dates back to the mid-nineteenth century, precisely to 1846, the inauguration

date of the Milan-Venice railway line. Since then, the city not only became accessible by water but also by land…

it would be the turning point of an era. But here are the main access points to the city today, in brief.

I TERMINAL - GLI ACCESSI VIA TERRA

PIAZZALE ROMA

E’ lo storico terminal automobilistico di Venezia

dove spiccano le due grandi autorimesse pubbliche:

il Garage San Marco e il Garage Comunale

AVM (quest’ultimo con un’area predisposta anche

alle biciclette).

Il vasto Piazzale, di recente collegato da un moderno

ponte pedonale alla Stazione ferroviaria (il ponte

della Costituzione), fa attualmente da riferimento

al servizio di collegamento urbano ed extraurbano

con la terraferma.

Da qui arrivano e si diramano le corse dei servizi

pubblici (Actv e Atvo) e privati (taxi) che collegano

Venezia alla città metropolitana e ai due aeroporti,

quello di Tessera e di Treviso.

Un servizio su monorotaia (People Mover) collega

inoltre Piazzale Roma all’isola del Tronchetto.

L’ISOLA DEL TRONCHETTO

Allacciata da una “bretella” al ponte automobilistico,

ospita il Venezia Tronchetto Parking (uno dei

più grandi garage in Europa) dove possono trovare

posto quasi 4000 mezzi compresi camper e

motociclette.

Al suo esterno, a pochi metri, si trovano gli imbarcaderi

dai quali si dipartono le linee del servizio pubblico

Actv (Linea 2) e privato per il cuore della città.

Una linea speciale denominata People Moover

collega in pochi minuti l’isola al terminal automobilistico

di Piazzale Roma.

L’isola ospita inoltre un porticciolo e il casello di

accesso al servizio di Ferry-boat della linea 17 di

Actv che collega il Tronchetto alle isole del Lido e

di Pellestrina.

LA STAZIONE FERROVIARIA DI SANTA LUCIA

Situata in posizione ideale, questa primaria porta

di accesso alla città, posta al termine del ponte

della Libertà si affaccia all’ultimo lembo del

Canal Grande.

Qui sono disposti gli imbarcaderi da dove si diramano

le principali linee Actv per la città e le isole:

la linea 1 (tutte le fermate) e 2 (diretta) per il Canal

Grande e il Canale della Giudecca; la 4.1 e 4.2; 5.1

e 5.2 (circolari) per laguna nord e Murano).

Alla stazione di recente ammodernata e ampliata

con servizi e centri commerciali, arrivano tutte le

linee veloci che collegano Venezia alle principali

città italiane ed europee.

TERMINALS - ACCESS VIA LAND

PIAZZALE ROMA

It is the historic car terminal in Venice, where two

big public garages stand out: the San Marco Garage

and the AVM Municipal Garage (the latter

also has an area for bicycles).

This large Square, linked recently to the railway

station by a modern pedestrian bridge (the Costituzione

Bridge), is currently the hub for urban

and extra-urban connection services with the

mainland.

Public (Actv and Atvo) and private (taxis) services

arrive and go from here, connecting Venice to its

metropolitan city and the two airports of Tessèra

and Treviso.

A monorail service (People Mover) also connects

Piazzale Roma to the Tronchetto island.

THE TRONCHETTO ISLAND

Connected to the automobile bridge by a flyover,

it houses the Venezia Tronchetto Parking (one

of the largest garages in Europe), where almost

4000 vehicles may be accommodated, including

camper vans and motorcycles.

Outside, a few metres away, are the boat-stops

from where public ACTV service (Line 2) and private

lines depart for the heart of the city.

A special train line called People Mover links this

island to the Piazzale Roma cars terminal in just

a few minutes.

The island also hosts a small port and toll-booth

for boarding the Actv Ferry-boat line 17 service,

linking Tronchetto to the Lido and Pellestrina islands.

THE SANTA LUCIA RAILWAY STATION

Ideally located, this primary gateway to the city

at the end of the Libertà Bridge overlooks the

last stretch of the Grand Canal.

Here are the boat stops from where the main

ACTV lines lead to the city and the islands: lines 1

(all stops) and 2 (direct) for the Grand Canal and

the Giudecca Canal; n. 4.1 and 4.2; 5.1 and 5.2 (circle)

for the northern lagoon and Murano.

All the rapid lines connecting Venice to the main

Italian and European cities arrive at this station,

recently modernised and enlarged with services

and shopping hubs.

Posto ai lembi della laguna nord di Venezia, a circa

13 chilometri dalla città è oggi il terzo aeroporto

per numero di passeggeri in Italia.

Gestito dalla società Save e ampliato nel 2017 è

oggi dotato di una vasta area di servizi, oltre che

di parcheggi e collegamenti con mezzi pubblici

sia via terra che via acqua gestiti rispettivamente

dalle compagnie Atvo (con un servizio Shuttle su

Piazzale Roma) e Alilaguna con motoscafi diretti

sul centro città e le isole.

Vi operano numerose compagnie aeree con una

folta rete di voli nazionali e internazionali.

Nato come scalo per voli charter e cargo l’aeroporto

di Treviso grazie ad importanti investimenti

che hanno di recente ampliato pista ed aerostazione

Posto a pochi chilometri dalla città di Treviso e circa

a trenta dalla città di Venezia oggi fa da base

ad una delle massime compagnie internazionali

Low Cost. Gestito dalla stessa società dell’aeroporto

veneziano è collegato con la città tramite la

La sua pista in erba fa oggi da scalo ad elicotteri e

Posto in un’estremità dell’isola del Lido è raggiungibile

Located on the edge of Venice’s northern lagoon,

about 13 kilometres from town, today

it is the third airport in terms of passenger

numbers in Italy. Managed by the Save company

and expanded in 2017, it is now equipped with a

vast services area, as well as parking and public

transport links both by land and by water, managed

respectively by Atvo (with a Shuttle service

to the city centre and its islands.

Several airlines operate there, with a large network

Born as a hub for charter and cargo flights,

thanks to major investments which have recently

expanded its runway and terminal Treviso airport

is effectively one of the major airports in the

Veneto region.

Located a few kilometres from the city of Treviso

and about thirty from the city of Venice, today it

is a base for one of the leading international Low

Cost companies. Managed by the same company

NICELLI AIRPORT - LIDO OF VENICE

One of the most evocative Italian airports, a perfectly

preserved example of 1930s architecture,

the Nicelli airport is known as the oldest Italian

commercial airport, and deemed by a special

ranking to be one of the most beautiful airport

areas worldwide. Its grass runway is now a hub

for helicopters and small charter and private

planes with propeller engines.

Located at one end of the Lido island, it may be

reached by water with private taxis or by the

ACTV Ferry-boat line 17 service.

Sono molte le opportunità per girare e scoprire Venezia.

La prima scelta, forse la migliore, è senza dubbio – grazie alle sue distanze ridotte

- quella di muoversi a piedi. A volte però, la mancanza di tempo, i bagagli pesanti e,

non ultimo, l’impossibilità fisica di attraversare la laguna diventa comodo, oltre che

piacevole dal punto di vista paesaggistico, salire a bordo di un mezzo di trasporto.

Nella città lagunare non esistono bus, ne metro, ne auto-taxi e… nemmeno biciclette.

Ecco allora che i mezzi di trasporto pubblici sono vaporetti o battelli (così li chiamano

da un vecchio retaggio i veneziani) e motoscafi veloci, chiamati “lance”, che fanno la

funzione dei taxi, fino ad arrivare a quel mezzo, tra i più iconici al mondo, che per secoli

ha contraddistinto il trasporto di persone lungo i rii (canali) della città: la gondola.

Ecco qualche nota a riguardo per chi appunto, appena arrivato a Venezia, volesse

spostarsi usando i mezzi di navigazione.

ACTV

E’ l’Azienda del Consorzio Trasporti Veneziano.

La sua flotta di imbarcazioni raggiunge ogni punto

della città, comprese le isole maggiori.

Autobus e tram collegano invece il terminal di

Piazzale Roma alla città metropolitana.

Una linea speciale, la 17, collega invece con una

spola di ferry-boat il Terminal automobilistico del

Tronchetto, all’isola del Lido e, a proseguire, quella

di Pellestrina.

Dal 2020 ACTV sta investendo sul trasporto “green”

puntando ad inserire lungo la principale via

d’acqua della città, il Canal Grande, i primi mezzi

a propulsione elettrica eliminando così sia l’inquinamento

acustico che quello dell’aria, favorendo

allo stesso tempo, la riduzione del moto ondoso.

ALILAGUNA

La compagnia nasce come servizio di collegamento

acqueo tra l’Aeroporto Marco Polo e i punti

focali della città: i terminal del Tronchetto, di Piazzale

Roma e della Stazione, le zone di San Marco e

di Rialto, le isole della Giudecca, del Lido e di Murano.

La rete di navigazione è costituita da quattro

linee (più una turistica) contraddistinte ognuna da

un colore.

I biglietti si possono acquistare oltre che online,

presso le biglietterie Alilaguna.

MOVING IN VENICE

The opportunities for getting around and discovering

Venice are many.

A first choice, maybe the best, is no doubt -

thanks to its short distances - to move on foot.

But sometimes, due to lack of time, heavy luggage

and, last but not least, the physical impossibility

of crossing the lagoon, it is comfortable,

as well as pleasant from a scenic point of view, to

board a transport vehicle.

There are no buses, no metro, no car-taxis in the

lagoon city… nor bicycles.

Thus, public transport boats are vaporetti or battelli

(traditionally so called by Venetians of yore)

and fast motor-launches, called “lance”, which act

as taxis, ending with one of the most iconic vehicles

worldwide, which has characterised people’s

transport along the city canals for centuries: the

gondola.

Here are a few notes for those who, having just

arrived in Venice, wish to move around by navigation.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT SERVICE

ACTV

It is the Consorzio Trasporti Veneziano Company.

Its boat fleet reaches every part of town, including

its major islands.

Buses and trams instead link the Piazzale Roma

terminal to its metropolitan city.

Special line n. 17 links Tronchetto car-terminal to

the Lido island by a ferry-boat shuttle, and further

on to Pellestrina island.

Since 2020, ACTV has been investing in “green”

transport, aiming at its first electrically-powered

vehicles along the main city waterway, the Grand

Canal, eliminating both noise and air pollution

and favouring a wave motion reduction at the

same time.

ALILAGUNA

This company was born as a water-link service

between Marco Polo Airport and focal points in

town: the Tronchetto, Piazzale Roma and Railway

terminals, the Saint Mark and Rialto areas, the Giudecca,

Lido and Murano islands. The navigation

network consists of four lines (+ a tourist one),

each marked by a colour.

Tickets may be purchased at Alilaguna ticket offices,

as well as online.
