Sincere to say, the portrayal of modern

artists has deteriorated into something

safe and uninteresting. We want Faux to

serve as a testing ground for creatives who are

not scared to take chances and deviate from

the norm. We seek to push these

boundaries and promote pieces that

transcend works that are palatable to the general

audience. In addition, my goal with this

publication is to showcase my artistic

endeavors in their purest and most authentic

form. In the past, I’ve felt these works were

not being presented in the best possible

manner. I want to utilize this platform to

represent my projects in the best

possible light.

Faux Volume No. 1

I began my creative journey 7 years ago with

video production and began dabbling in

photoshop with graphic design a year later.

Throughout my learning process, a big

inspiration for my own video work is Chris

Cunningham. I am constantly inspired by

his skills and creative direction for each of

his videos. Another significant influence on

me as a creative was Dean Blunt. Aside from

his amazing discography, Blunt has pushed

boundaries against the norm and expanded

what music could be for me.

I’ve arrived at a crossroads in my creative career

that requires a heavier responsibility toward

my creative ventures. Through Faux, I

strive to not only elevate my work but

celebrate the craft of others around me. As I

have grown up in predominantly white

areas with very little culture, this publication

allows me to explore my creative identity outside

of these environments. In a way, this is

my own version of a rebellion against the boxes

I’ve been raised in.

My intention behind creating

Faux was to create a platform

that allows artists, including

myself, to display their art

with no restriction or censorship.

While there were publications

in my community that

aimed to feature fashion and

art, it was undoubtedly under

restriction and catered to the

likes of the public. By creating

this independently, we have

the autonomy to feature anything

with full creative

freedom. In addition,

Faux not only serves

as a showcase for

creators but acts

as an online

community for

artists to discover

and collaborate with

each other.

Personally, art has always been

a way to explore my identity

as a creative and gain a deeper

understanding of myself. Art

challenges me to think critically

behind every creative

decision I make while giving

me the freedom to experiment

with new things. To censor this

art being produced is to starve

the soul and I aim for Faux to

inspire creativity amongst all

of us. I’ve always felt censored

or held back creatively in my

previous endeavors, and so I

hope Faux can help in creating

an art community that is

supportive to each other and

free of restriction or

judgment.

Although I officially began

graphic design in January of

2023, I’ve taken art courses

throughout high school and

my first semester of college.

Before fully jumping into

the digital space, I also

dabbled in video editing.

Currently,

my main focus is

creating multimedia

art, either

through

graphics or animation,

and typography.

An influential figure that

has significantly inspired

me is Tracy Ma. Her use of

typography and structure

in her design to send powerful

messages has always

left me in admiration of her

work. As for mixed media, I

am also heavily inspired by

Frank Lebon, Tyrone Lebon,

Steven Woloshen, and

Lonewolf–all mixed media

artists in their own

respective fields.

Claire Fagan

Also known As,

Earth2Jupiter

About The Artist

Claire Fagan, also known as Earth-

2Jupiter, is a multi-media artist from

Denver, CO. She is currently majoring

in Media Studies and minoring in Media

Production at the Colorado University

of Boulder. Aside from art, Fagan also

enjoys fashion, thrifting, coffee, and social

media. She continues to advocate for the

environment through her commitment to

veganism and her constant utility of second-hand

items.

Fagan’s favorite mediums are acrylic paint,

watercolor, colored markers, and Photoshop.

Although she mainly sticks to a

palette of blacks and reds, this choice has

given each and every one of her works a

unique distinction amongst the art community.

Staying true to her online personna,

Fagan’s works also often feature skulls,

eyeballs, and Jupiter as its theme.

Untitled (2023)

“I love abstract work and tend to input

abstract ideas into most of my creations,

along with concepts like texture, skulls,

the planet Jupiter, and the same cohesive

black, white, and red color scheme.” The

artist continues, “I believe that sticking to

this scheme makes my art stand out and I

plan to continue using these themes in my

future artwork and promote growth in all

fields of art as well!”

In addition to her art, Fagan also enjoys

making comedic video edits in her free

time. These video edits are the highlights

featured on the official Instagram of Slayer’s

Association (@slayers_association).

From her poetic and grungy art pieces to

her comedic edits, Fagan leaves her own

special mark on everything she touches.

Check out some of her wonderful work on

through the next pages!

who is DEAN BLUNT?

written by michael kaddu-kibuuka

Dean Blunt, whos real name is Roy Nnawuchi,

is a british born music artist. Dean is a very

private person, very few things are known about

his personal life. It is speculated that he is around

35-40 years old. He began his music career in

2005 with the electronic duo Hype Williams,

with his close friend Inga Copeland. The most

notable album from this time was their 2012 release

Black is Beautiful. After this release, they passed the

Hype Williams project on to new artists.

They continue to work together to this day.

Dean Blunt - The Narcissist II (2012)

Dean Blunts debut solo album The Narcissist II

is one of his most acclaimed albums. This album

has the widest variety of genres on of any of his

albums, spanning from psychedelic soul to eld

recordings and noise. As the title implies,

this album speaks on issues such as narcisism,

domestic abuse, lust, and isolation. Deans

masterful use of samples and eld recordings blend

together to create a gritty atmosphere that rewards

listeners who give this album a chance.

After leaving Hype Williams, Dean went on to release

a multitude of projects under the Dean Blunt name. His

music is known for its playful, hypnotizing, and lo--

sound. Dean creates music that is diicult to catogorize,

he likes to blend a mixture of genres like pop, rap, ambient,

and minimalism to make enigmatic songs. Common themes

in his music are abuse, addiction, isolation, and race.

Standout tracks like

The Narcissist,

Caught feelings,

and Direct Line 2

solidiies this album

as an essential

record that has left

a lasting impression

on the lo-- pop

genre.

He has frequently collaborated with artists like A$AP Rocky,

Arca, Yung Lean, Panda Bear and Frank Ocean. In 2015,

Dean was awarded as the best new artist by the NME awards.

Dean Blunt - Black Metal (2014)

Dean Blunts 2014 album Black Metal is more of an

art piece than a musical album. While it still mostly

consists of catchy songs and amazing production, it

is better to listen to it like you are at a museum. Its

purposefully ooputting and mindbending is speciically

created to critisize the re-appropriation of white art.

This album features a surprising amount of range in

instrumentation that is much diierent than his previous

works such as live violins, pianos, and bass. Despite the

name this album features no sort of metal, in fact it

features quite the opposite. This album stays on the more

calm and hazy side of Deans discography.

Dean Blunt uses

seemingly unntting

creative choices to

give the appearence

of an album that isnt

anything special, but

when put into context

and dissected you

will nd out Black

Metal is actually a

smart analysis on r

ace, labels, and the

current state of the

music industry.

Dean Blunts influence on the indie pop genre

is criminally under-rated. Artists like Clairo,

A$AP Rocky, Girl in Red, and a multitude

of other artists take direct influence from

Dean Blunts music. In conclusion, Dean Blunt

continues to push the boundries of what

is considered music, what it means to

be black in a racist society, and what genres

mean in modern art.
