Note: If the device identifier is unknown, the dddd <strong>and</strong> mm fields are blank. If the<br />

control unit identifier is unknown, the cccc <strong>and</strong> nn fields are blank.<br />

Responses with STATUS:<br />

Note: In all of the following responses, rdev is the real device number for which the<br />

user refers to the device.<br />

When the device is ready <strong>and</strong> available, you see a response like this:<br />

DEVICE rdev OPERATIONAL<br />

When the device is either disabled or not connected to the channel subsystem, you<br />

see a response like this:<br />

DEVICE rdev NOT OPERATIONAL<br />

When the device sense data indicates an equipment check, you see a response<br />

like this:<br />

DEVICE rdev EQUIPMENT CHECK<br />

When the device has indicated it has hardware problems, you see a response like<br />

this:<br />

rdev CHANNEL ERROR<br />

When the device is unavailable (boxed), you see a response like this:<br />

DASD rdev BOXED<br />

When the device is unavailable to <strong>CP</strong>, you see a response like this:<br />

DASD rdev OFFLINE<br />

When the device is in a state-change-pending condition, during wuich it cannot<br />

service I/O requests, you see a response like this:<br />

When the subchannel for the device has been varied offline you see a response<br />

When the device has been taken offline for maintenance, you see a response like<br />

Response for Devices Needing Intervention:<br />

If the system is using a device that is in an intervention-required state when you<br />

enter QUERY (Real Device), you receive a response that looks like this:<br />

A DASD 1801 intervention required.<br />

DASD is the real device type. It can be replaced by one of the following, depending<br />

on the type of device at the specified address:<br />

Type Meaning<br />

TAPE Magnetic tape<br />

RDR Card reader<br />

PRT Printer<br />

PUN Card punch<br />
