Use FLASHCOPY to copy data from one virtual DASD to another.
FLASHCOPY
vdev1
is the address of the virtual DASD to be used as the source of the copy. The
virtual DASD must be on a Control Unit that has the FLASHCOPY hardware
feature. If a valid address is not specified, the command is rejected.
scyl1
is the first cylinder to be copied. If the whole virtual device is to be copied, this
should be 0.
ecyl1
is the last cylinder to be copied. If the whole virtual device is to be copied, this
should be END.
TO
vdev2
is the address of the virtual DASD to be used as the target of the copy. The
virtual DASD must be on a Control Unit that has the FLASHCOPY hardware
feature and must not be read only. If a valid address is not specified, the
command is rejected.
scyl2
is the first cylinder to be written. If the whole virtual device is to be written, this
should be 0.
ecyl2
is the last cylinder to be written. If the whole virtual device is to be written, this
may be END.
1. In order for this command to be successful, the source and target DASD must
be correctly defined on control units that support the FLASHCOPY feature. If
this is not the case, error message HCP332E is generated.
2. This command may produce delayed responses. Refer to “Delayed Responses
to CP Commands” on page 8 for more information.
3. Special care should be exercised when copying to cylinder zero of the target
virtual device. If the target virtual device starts at real cylinder zero, then the CP
Volume label will be overwritten. This could cause a duplicate volume to be
created, or a volume that cannot be mounted.
4. FLASHCOPY supports source-target pairs according the DASD types of the
source and target. Table 8 on page 436 shows the source-target pairs
