SC24-6081-01, z/<strong>VM</strong> Version 5 Release 1, Updated Edition<br />

This edition includes support announced after the announcement of z/<strong>VM</strong> Version 5<br />

Release 1 (z/<strong>VM</strong> V5R1) or programming enhancements provided after the general<br />

availability of z/<strong>VM</strong> V5R1. These enhancements may be provided through z/<strong>VM</strong><br />

service by program temporary fixes (PTFs) for authorized program analysis reports<br />

(APARs), as indicated.<br />

Fibre Channel Protocol (F<strong>CP</strong>) Logical Unit Number (LUN) Access<br />

Control (APAR <strong>VM</strong>63328)<br />

The <strong>CP</strong> comm<strong>and</strong>s ATTACH <strong>and</strong> QUERY F<strong>CP</strong> were updated to provide added<br />

security for SCSI devices connected to a Storage Area Network (SAN).<br />

Support for the <strong>IBM</strong> TotalStorage ®<br />

DS8000 (APAR <strong>VM</strong>63534)<br />

z/<strong>VM</strong> support for the high-capacity DS8000 allows the definition of SCSI F<strong>CP</strong> disks<br />

up to 2,147,483,640 512-byte blocks (1 terabyte minus 1 page) in size. A new 2107<br />

oper<strong>and</strong> has been added to the SET EDEVICE comm<strong>and</strong>.<br />

SC24-6081-00, z/<strong>VM</strong> Version 5 Release 1<br />

This edition supports the general availability of z/<strong>VM</strong> Version 5 Release 1 (z/<strong>VM</strong><br />

V5R1).<br />

Enhanced Guest LAN <strong>and</strong> Virtual Switch Authorization Support<br />

The <strong>CP</strong> comm<strong>and</strong>s, COUPLE, SET LAN, SET VSWITCH, QUERY LAN, <strong>and</strong><br />

QUERY VSWITCH, were updated to include support for enhanced Guest LAN <strong>and</strong><br />

Virtual Switch authorization support. This feature ensures that existing connections<br />

to a Guest LAN or Virtual Switch are not changed when a user ID is removed from<br />

the <strong>CP</strong> access list using the SET LAN or SET VSWITCH comm<strong>and</strong> with the<br />

REVOKE option. In earlier releases, an existing connection was uncoupled.<br />

Hyperswap Support<br />

The new HYPERSWAP comm<strong>and</strong> performs disaster recovery failover processing on<br />

PPRC-linked DASD. The QUERY HYPERSWAP comm<strong>and</strong> displays the hyperswap<br />

status for one or more devices.<br />

Virtual Switch Support<br />

The <strong>CP</strong> comm<strong>and</strong>s, DEFINE VSWITCH, DEFINE LAN, SET VSWITCH, QUERY<br />

VSWITCH, QUERY LAN, QUERY NIC, QUERY CONTROLLER, <strong>and</strong> QUERY<br />

<strong>VM</strong>LAN were updated to include support for Virtual Switch failover support. This<br />

feature allows failover to an alternate real device in the event of a failure with the<br />

current OSA-Express device.<br />
