EBCDIC to ASCII Differences<br />

z/<strong>VM</strong> supports ASCII devices using 37x5. This section describes enhancements to<br />

<strong>VM</strong> support of ASCII in connection with line mode support.<br />

The TERMINAL comm<strong>and</strong> has as an oper<strong>and</strong>, ASCIITBL, that can be used on TTY<br />

type terminals. ASCIITBL lets you select the translation tables you want to use from<br />

the following:<br />

<strong>VM</strong>1 ASCII translate tables based on STD TTY ANSI X3.4 1977 translate tables.<br />

<strong>VM</strong>1 is the default.<br />

<strong>VM</strong>2 ASCII translate tables based on STD TTY ANSI X3.26 1980 translate<br />

tables.<br />

If you find translate table discrepancies because your application uses STD TTY<br />

ANSI X3.26 1980 translate tables, you can select these translate tables with the<br />

<strong>VM</strong>2 option. If not, you can continue to use the 1977 translate tables as the default<br />

or by selecting the <strong>VM</strong>1 option.<br />
