DEFINE DEVICE / IODEVICE
Authorization
Purpose
Operands
Privilege Class: B
Use DEFINE DEVICE or IODEVICE to define one or more new real devices to the
I/O configuration.
rdev
rdev1-rdev2
is the real device number (or range of real device numbers) of the device that
you are defining to CP. Each rdev must be a 1- to 4-digit hexadecimal number
between X'0000' and X'FFFF'.
UNIT_Address nn
UNITADD nn
is the last 2 digits of a device address or number. The variable nn must be a 1-
to 2-digit hexadecimal number between X'00' and X'FF'.
Notes:
156 z/VM: CP Commands and Utilities Reference
1. If you are specifying a range of devices (rdev1-rdev2), the unit address that
you specify is the starting address associated with the first device in the
range.
TYpe CF
tells CP that the specified devices are attached to a control unit that connects to
coupling facility channel paths. Coupling facility channel paths include coupling
facility sender (CFS), coupling facility receiver (CFR), coupling facility peer
(CFP), cluster bus sender (CBS), cluster bus receiver (CBR), cluster bus peer
(CBP), or internal coupling peer (ICP) channel paths.
CU_number nnnn
CUNUMBR nnnn
is the number of the control unit associated with the device that you are
defining. You can specify up to 8 control unit numbers. Each nnnn must be a 1-
to 4-digit hexadecimal number between X'0000' and X'FFFE'.
CSS nn
is a channel-subsystem ID previously defined for one or more channel paths to
the specified control unit. The variable nn must be a 1- to 2-digit hexadecimal
number between X'00' and X'0F'.
Note: This parameter and other parameters that identify different
channel-subsystem IDs require that the logical channel-subsystem facility
be installed.
CTCa EXTended
tells CP that this device is an extended mode channel-to-channel adapter
(CTCA).
CTCa BASic
tells CP that this device is a basic mode channel-to-channel adapter (CTCA).
NOTDASD
tells CP that this device is not a direct access storage device (DASD).
