SPXTAPE
Authorization
Purpose
Privilege Classes: D, E, G
Use SPXTAPE to:
v Save standard spool files and system data files on tape
v Restore SPXTAPE-format files from tape to the spooling system.
Standard spool files are:
v Printer spool files
v Punch spool files
v Reader spool files.
System data files are:
v Image libraries
v National language support files, such as message repository files
v Named saved systems
v Saved segments
v System trace files
v User class restructure files.
SPXTAPE provides the following major functions:
CANCEL
Immediately cancels an SPXTAPE DUMP, LOAD, or SCAN operation. See
“SPXTAPE CANCEL” on page 1481.
DUMP Reads files from the spooling system and writes them on tape. See
“SPXTAPE DUMP” on page 1483.
END Ends an SPXTAPE DUMP, LOAD, or SCAN operation at the completion of
the current file. See “SPXTAPE END” on page 1491.
LOAD Reads SPXTAPE-format files from tape and writes them into the spooling
system. See “SPXTAPE LOAD” on page 1493.
SCAN Determines what files exist on tape in SPXTAPE format. See “SPXTAPE
SCAN” on page 1504.
The spooling operator can use SPXTAPE to selectively store on tape and retrieve
standard spool files and system data files. The scan and selective-read-in functions
allow the operator to avoid an overload in the spooling system. Should an overload
occur, SPXTAPE allows the operator to quickly store the files temporarily on tape.
The general user can use SPXTAPE to save on tape and retrieve the standard
spool files and system trace files that belong to that user ID.
Note: The status of an outstanding SPXTAPE operation can be determined using
the QUERY VIRTUAL command. See the description of QUERY VIRTUAL
TAPES for more details.
