Use SET <strong>CP</strong>LANGUAGE to change the language of your virtual machine or the<br />

entire system.<br />

langid<br />

is the language to which the virtual machine is to be set; langid must be 1 to 5<br />

characters long <strong>and</strong> must consist of CMS file system characters only.<br />

USER<br />

specifies that the default language is being set for the user.<br />

SYSTEM<br />

specifies that the default language is being set for the entire system.<br />

1. Be aware of the language-related terminal restrictions when you specify a<br />

language. If you are not sure what characters your terminal can display, check<br />

with your system administrator.<br />

2. The QUERY <strong>CP</strong>LANGLIST comm<strong>and</strong> displays all the valid language IDs that<br />

you can set in <strong>CP</strong>. To display the language that is currently active for <strong>CP</strong> in your<br />

virtual machine, enter the QUERY <strong>CP</strong>LANGUAGE comm<strong>and</strong>. Contact your<br />

system administrator if you have any questions about the languages available<br />

on your system.<br />

3. The system default language is set with the <strong>CP</strong>LANGUAGE oper<strong>and</strong> of the<br />

USER_DEFAULTS system configuration statement or with the <strong>CP</strong> SET<br />

<strong>CP</strong>LANGUAGE comm<strong>and</strong>. The order of precedence, from highest priority to<br />

lowest, that determines an individual user’s language is:<br />

v SET <strong>CP</strong>LANGUAGE comm<strong>and</strong> specified by the individual user<br />

v the value specified for the LANG oper<strong>and</strong> of the OPTION statement in the<br />

user’s directory<br />

v the system default language, <strong>and</strong> then<br />

v the language that is built into the <strong>CP</strong> nucleus.<br />

4. If the system default language is changed, the response to QUERY<br />

<strong>CP</strong>LANGLIST will show the new system default language. If the user is using<br />

the system default language, the user’s current language will not change until<br />
