ON<br />

Use RESET to clear all pending interrupts from a specified virtual device.<br />

vdev<br />

is the virtual device number of the device to be reset.<br />

RESERVE ON<br />

releases the RESERVE status of a system shared DASD. The ON oper<strong>and</strong> is<br />

optional.<br />

ASSIGN ON<br />

unassigns a tape drive. The ON oper<strong>and</strong> is optional.<br />

rdev<br />

is the real device number of the device to be released.<br />

1. CAUTION:<br />

If you must release a device that is being reserved by <strong>CP</strong> for some user,<br />

you can use the RESET RESERVE comm<strong>and</strong>. You should use this<br />

comm<strong>and</strong> only when you know that the user for whom <strong>CP</strong> is holding the<br />

reserve is hung or is holding the reserve for too long <strong>and</strong> preventing<br />

access to the device by other users.<br />

2. In addition to clearing all pending interrupts, all virtual sense bytes <strong>and</strong> error<br />

conditions occurring as a result of unit checks are reset.<br />

3. The operator of a virtual system can issue the RESET comm<strong>and</strong> to return to <strong>CP</strong><br />

any local displays that were connected to the virtual system using the DIAL<br />

comm<strong>and</strong>.<br />

4. The reserve status of system DASD may be determined by issuing the Class B<br />

QUERY DASD RESERVE comm<strong>and</strong>.<br />

5. When RESET RESERVE is issued to a device, that device immediately<br />

becomes available to the other sharing system.<br />

6. If the specified tape drive is in a GIVEN state the issuer must be the user ID to<br />

whom the tape drive was given, or the comm<strong>and</strong> is not performed.<br />

7. The RESET RESERVE comm<strong>and</strong> can, in some cases, be used to reset a<br />

device that is RESERVED BY SYSTEM. Normally a device in this state is in<br />

transition, <strong>and</strong> a subsequent query will indicate the device is reserved by a user,<br />

or not reserved. However, if querying the device consistently returns<br />
