Concrete Crops is a sustainability CCA where students work on
developing a patch of scrub land in the school into a garden.
“Horrible Histories is a staple of our CCA offering now and
sees students learning history through the fun, unique and
sometimes gory bits, inspired by famous children’s author Terry
Deary’s books.”
Andy says CCAs allow students to stretch themselves beyond
their curriculums and work and collaborate with different
students from across the school. “They allow students to pursue
interests that traditional curriculums do not always provide, and
build capacity in diverse areas of study and interest,” he explains.
Saurish Kapoor
He adds that CCAs take place from Monday to Friday for an hour
a session, and students can attend as many as they want and are
encouraged to join at least one.
Janice Cheow, a Year 12 K student particularly enjoys the studentled
Dance Crew CCA. “Though I am part of the leadership
committee for this club, I take part in the learning sessions, and
it’s been a very insightful experience for me.”
She adds that every day she spends with the Dance Crew allows
her to grow as an individual not only through learning about
movement, rhythm and dance, but also knowing how to step
up, make announcements, handle logistics of performances and
rehearsals, and more.
Another student, Saurish Kapoor says he has benefited a lot
from joining the Science and Technology Club and the World
Scholar’s Cup.
Andy Bayfield
“By conducting hands-on experiments and engaging in
peer discussions, I have gained a deeper understanding of
various scientific concepts and kept up-to-date with the latest
developments in the field. The leadership roles I took on within
the club also helped me develop essential communication
and collaboration skills. “Participating in the World Scholar’s
Cup has been a fantastic experience as well. This competition
challenged me to think critically and creatively about a range
of topics, including history, science and the arts.”
played a significant role in shaping his interests and aspirations.
“My participation in CCAs has instilled in me a passion for
learning and a drive to make a positive impact on the world.
I am excited to continue exploring new opportunities and
pursuing my passions at SJIIM and beyond.”
