To convert weight units within the English system, use the relationships given
in Table 5.4. For example, to convert pounds into ounces, the table shows that we
multiply the number of pounds by a factor of 16. Thus, for instance, to convert two
pounds into ounces:
2 pounds = 2 × 16 = 32 ounces
Similarly, to convert ounces into pounds we use the reverse operation; that is, we
divide the ounces by a factor of 16. Thus,
32 ounces = 32 ÷ 16 = 2 pounds.
