Compression. Compression is the act of applying axially directed pushing forces

on a certain object, as shown in Figure 17.13. One example of such a functional

test is compression exerted on a concrete block to test the ability of that block to

withstand the pressure. Many concrete structures have compressive strengths in

excess of 50 MPa.

The compressive strength of a material is the value of uniaxial compressive

stress reached when the material fails completely.

Rockwell, Durometer, and micro-hardness
