This guide could not have been possible without the contribution of medical students, hospital management teams, interns, AMA and many other people volunteering their time to update the information. For example, we have added eight new health networks across all states and territories to the internship guide.

HOW TO APPLY When the application is open, go to this link and search for “Intern” https://jobs.nt.gov.au/Home/Search What you need to have ready prior to commencing the application: Have the names and contact details of three referees (including email address) who are able to provide a workplace assessment in a timely manner to support your application Have your Medical Intern Placement Number (MIPN), student number, passport number and details, visa status and expiry date where applicable Names of the last secondary school and university you attended and year of graduation If you are a NT Scholarship holder you will need your most recent course receipt to be attached to your CV If you identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander you will need to complete the Statutory Declaration provided in the link on the application and attach it to your CV NT RURAL TRAINING There are no dedicated rural internship programs in the Northern Territory, however the Northern Territory has a strong focus on generalism in their training programs, with the opportunity for interns to explore careers in rural and remote settings. PGY2+ sites: all above, and Darwin Private Hospital ROTATIONS AVAILABLE PGY1: General Medicine, General Surgery, Emergency medicine, Renal, Cardiology, Paediatrics, Maxillofacial surgery, Vascular surgery, Gove District Hospital (ED/Medicine), and General Medicine at Palmerston Regional Hospital PGY2: All of the above plus Katherine ED and surgery, various surgical and medical subspecialties, O&G and Psychiatry BASIC INFORMATION The Royal Darwin Hospital has approximately 363 beds and more than 1,700 staff and provides a broad range of services in all specialty areas to the Darwin urban population as well as serving as a referral centre to the Top End of the Northern Territory, Western Australia and South-East Asia. The Top End population serviced by the hospital is approximately 150,000. The Royal Darwin Hospital is the largest teaching hospital in the Northern Territory and is also recognised as Australia’s National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre. The hospital’s vision is to be recognised locally, nationally and internationally as a centre of excellence for the provision of high quality healthcare to the community and to fulfil its role as the National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre.
