The 2023 edition of the AMSA Internship Guide is now available to read! This is the AMSA guide for the 2024 clinical year. This guide could not have been possible without the contribution of medical students, hospital management teams, interns, AMA and many other people volunteering their time to update the information. For example, we have added eight new health networks across all states and territories to the internship guide. Good luck to the class of 2023! We hope that the information within this guide can be beneficial for you during your internship applications. If you have any queries or feedback about the guide, please do not hesitate to email pdo@amsa.org.au.

REASONS TO APPLY
Blacktown & Mount Druitt Hospital is large and diverse enough to provide JMOs
with all training and exposure they need for progression into specialty careers
while retaining the one-to one-attention for each JMO. We have a mentoring
program between consultants and interns to guide through career choices
Highly motivated Prevocational Training and Workforce team which advocates
for JMOs and encourages the claiming of any unrostered overtime
Twice weekly JMO teaching and a planned resident specific teaching program
shared with the Westnet hospitals along with weekly grand rounds
We provide practical skills sessions in airway management and procedures, and
heavily subsidise ALS1 and ALS2 and Paediatric Life Support training onsite at
the Australian Institute of Medical Simulation and Innovation
BMDH can offer the rotations required for entry into all specialty training
programs, including paediatrics needed for GP training, obstetrics terms
required for O&G training as a PGY3, and is an accredited training site for most
specialities networked with Westmead Hospital
BMDH is a teaching hospital for Western Sydney University with the Blacktown
Clinical School onsite providing opportunities for research and teaching
including conjoint appointments
Get involved in improving the hospital with our JMO Wellbeing committee, the
newly formed Women in Medicine committee, the JMO Safety and Quality
committee (which supports JMO involvement in audits), the Roster Working
Group, or wider hospital committees. This is great to get an understanding of
the machinations of the wider hospital and good for your CV!
Amenities include childcare giving preference to staff, the WSU library and an
active RMO association
Bathurst Base Hospital is a great place to work with a close-knit community but
still close enough to Sydney so you can easily get back for that family wedding
or friend’s party that you want to attend on the weekends.
There is significant pathology and need out here – you will make a difference!
