The 2023 edition of the AMSA Internship Guide is now available to read! This is the AMSA guide for the 2024 clinical year. This guide could not have been possible without the contribution of medical students, hospital management teams, interns, AMA and many other people volunteering their time to update the information. For example, we have added eight new health networks across all states and territories to the internship guide. Good luck to the class of 2023! We hope that the information within this guide can be beneficial for you during your internship applications. If you have any queries or feedback about the guide, please do not hesitate to email pdo@amsa.org.au.

What can AMA (NSW) do for DITs and the profession?
As one of the most powerful voices for doctors, we have a long track record of
effective advocacy. The AMA is involved in a broad range of issues, including gender
equity, vocational training requirements, and training pipeline issues. An example
of our advocacy is the Hospital Health Check survey which highlights the best parts
of our system, and the areas where work is needed to ensure DITs are wellsupported
to provide patient care. In 2023, AMA (NSW) will be conducting the
seventh annual Hospital Health Check survey.
The HHC results have been key in achieving advocacy wins for DITs:
Online unrostered overtime claims
Expansion of unrostered overtime work that doesn’t require prior approval
Minimum 10-hour breaks between rostered shifts and 14-hour maximum shift
duration
JMO Wellbeing and Support Plan
As a DIT, it’s easy to feel like you don’t have the power to make change, however
these are the types of wins that are possible by being involved in AMA (NSW). By
joining AMA (NSW), you not only gain access to a wide range of individual support
services and resources, but you are also contributing to the improvement of
working conditions for you and your colleagues.
Best wishes,
Dr Michael Bonning
AMA (NSW) President
