The 2023 edition of the AMSA Internship Guide is now available to read! This is the AMSA guide for the 2024 clinical year. This guide could not have been possible without the contribution of medical students, hospital management teams, interns, AMA and many other people volunteering their time to update the information. For example, we have added eight new health networks across all states and territories to the internship guide. Good luck to the class of 2023! We hope that the information within this guide can be beneficial for you during your internship applications. If you have any queries or feedback about the guide, please do not hesitate to email pdo@amsa.org.au.

WHAT IS
AMSA
AMSA is a vibrant student-run organisation that represents, informs and connects
all of Australia's 18,000+ medical students across the 23 Australian medical schools.
We have hundreds of medical students volunteer in a group collaboration to
conduct our professional-standard events, advocacy, committees and publications.
We are a community and there is a place here for ALL students. More information
about each branch of AMSA can be found in our AMSA Orange Guide, accessible
AMSA ADVOCACY
As the peak representative body for Australian medical students, AMSA has a
strong voice to represent you at the highest forums and at all levels of advocacy.
At the Federal level, AMSA engages with governmental and medical stakeholders
such as the Australian Medical Association (AMA) and the Medical Deans of
Australia and New Zealand (MDANZ). For example, the first parliamentary
schedule conducted by AMSA President Tish Sivagnanan and Vice President
External Gabrielle Dewsbury have worked with eight federal ministers including
Emma McBride, Malarndirri McCarthy, Julian Leeser, Lidia Thorpe, Jason Clare,
Anne Ruston, Melissa McIntosh and Gordon Reid.
At the state, university and local levels, AMSA liaises closely with university medical
societies (MedSocs) and state Medical Student Councils (MSCs) to provide support
in advocating for issues relevant to your state and university. Now, our policies are
developed by students like you, reviewed at your university’s ThinkTank, where
your thoughts are collated and presented at the National Council. This year, our
eight national advocacy goals are:
