Haematology, Medical Oncology, Medical and Surgical Relief, Cardiothoracic<br />

Surgery, ENT/ Maxillofacial Surgery, Neurosurgery, Plastics, Vascular Surgery,<br />

Urology, and Orthopaedics<br />

BASIC INFORMATION<br />

Interns at CHS do 4 terms a year. CHS offers highly competitive rates of pay and<br />

excellent working conditions. Competitive remuneration for medical officers, in<br />

addition to an attractive education allowance are also offered to interns and<br />

residents. Employee salary packaging with the full Public Benevolent Institution<br />

FBT concession is available. Some reimbursement of relocation expenses is<br />

available to medical officers recruited from interstate or overseas.<br />

The Canberra and Calvary Hospitals are the home hospitals for this network. All<br />

interns will have rotations at the Canberra Hospital. The Canberra Hospital has<br />

approximately 606 beds and busy outpatient clinics. It is a major tertiary trauma<br />

and teaching hospital, associated with the ANU, and covers many specialties.<br />

Calvary Public Hospital is a 162 bed public teaching hospital, also associated with<br />

the ANU.<br />

CHS offers quality education and training conditions in a large tertiary hospital, with<br />

the opportunity for rural rotations.<br />

*Note: Similar to the rest of Australia, Canberra Health Services is still working through the AMC changes<br />

internship which will commence in 2024 and how this will look practically. Thus, there may be some changes<br />

to available rotations and changes to the term allocation.
