The 2023 edition of the AMSA Internship Guide is now available to read! This is the AMSA guide for the 2024 clinical year. This guide could not have been possible without the contribution of medical students, hospital management teams, interns, AMA and many other people volunteering their time to update the information. For example, we have added eight new health networks across all states and territories to the internship guide. Good luck to the class of 2023! We hope that the information within this guide can be beneficial for you during your internship applications. If you have any queries or feedback about the guide, please do not hesitate to email pdo@amsa.org.au.

ACT OVERVIEW
Canberra is a great place to actively pursue your dreams. As Australia’s capital, big
ideas emerge, circulate and grow in Canberra thanks to the unique links between
leading thinkers in business, government, education and research. With a
population of over 450,000 people, Canberra and the greater ACT region offers all
the excitement and advantages of city living without the traffic, pollution and
stress of larger cities. It is an extremely desirable place to live. Here, interns and
residents can enjoy world-class festivals, facilities, entertainment, outdoor pursuits,
dining, shopping and a calendar overflowing with cultural, sporting and youthspecific
events. Canberra is a carefully planned city, so getting around is easy with
most places being within a 20-minute drive. More than 2,400 kilometres of
dedicated bicycle tracks, trails and lanes connect each of the major CBD areas in
the city. In addition, the ACT’s public transport system, ACTION, is a fast and
reliable bus service. Canberra is also a safe city, with one of the lowest crime rates
of any major Australian city, and an inclusive and welcoming community. Finally,
careers at ACT Health recognise and reward skill and experience, with progression
through clinical, research, education and management pathways at all levels.
HOW TO APPLY? More information and instructions on the internship application
process will be available on the ACT Health website closer to the application date.
