BASIC INFORMATION<br />
<br />
South West Healthcare is an accredited regional referral centre, servicing<br />
approximately 110,000 people in the South West Victoria. It is a fully integrated<br />
facility with 282 beds. Wards include medicine, surgery, O&G, 6-bed critical care<br />
unit, dialysis, emergency, inpatient psychiatry, GEM and rehabilitation. There are<br />
three fully equipped operating theatres and a separate endoscopy suite. South<br />
West Healthcare has approximately 15,000 admissions and 25,000 emergency<br />
department attendances per year.<br />
REASONS TO APPLY<br />

All interns complete a Mental Health rotation (excluding ACCHO interns)<br />
All consultants, resident specialists and visiting medical staff take a great<br />
interest in graduate education. Clinical teaching is supported by a wellresourced<br />
library and an active quality assurance and education program.<br />
Educational meetings are held several times per week (ED tutorials; radiology<br />
rounds; lectures/evidence based medicine presentations)<br />
In cooperation with the regional training provider, well established pathways<br />
exist enabling complete training to specialist rural General Practitioner and<br />
Rural Generalist status<br />
Regional training programs in specialist General Medicine and General Surgery<br />
are being developed and expanded<br />
Whether virtual or personal contact is needed, the library can help you with IT,<br />
study and research resources. The library provides some after hours access and<br />
includes updated books and journals affiliated with interlibrary loans, along with<br />
easy internet access
