BASIC INFORMATION<br />

Portlands District Health provides a comprehensive health service which provides<br />

services such as acute care, primary health and aged residential care. The health<br />

service offers an Emergency Department, 69 inpatient beds, 2 operating theatres,<br />

30-bed day procedure unit, GP Superclinic and a visiting specialist centre.<br />

Portland District Health’s innovative medical internship program started in 2021<br />

and is designed to attract and retain doctors in Portland. Portland District Health<br />

currently offers 2 internships per year. During their time the interns rotate through<br />

General Medicine, General Surgery, Emergency Department and General Practice<br />

(elective). The unique structure of internship here allows interns access to all<br />

medical disciplines and has a strong emphasis on medical education and one-onone<br />

time.<br />

REASONS TO APPLY<br />

Interns participate in weekly Safe Clinical Care Presentations at Portland District<br />

Health<br />

Interns are also invited to participate in the Southwest Healthcare JMO Tutorials<br />

run once a week<br />

Regular internal training is held with specialists including ECG, Point of Care<br />

Ultrasound etc<br />
