The 2023 edition of the AMSA Internship Guide is now available to read! This is the AMSA guide for the 2024 clinical year. This guide could not have been possible without the contribution of medical students, hospital management teams, interns, AMA and many other people volunteering their time to update the information. For example, we have added eight new health networks across all states and territories to the internship guide. Good luck to the class of 2023! BASIC INFORMATION

The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) began in 1848 as Victoria’s first public
hospital. And while we only had 10 beds to our name, we had the community of
Melbourne behind us, and we were ready to provide the best possible care for
those in need. Since those early years, we’ve moved forward with purpose. Always
at the forefront, leading the way on improving the quality of life for all.
Today the RMH is one of the largest health providers in the state, providing a
comprehensive range of specialist medical, surgical, and mental health services; as
well as rehabilitation, aged care, outpatient and community programs. Our
reputation for caring for all Melburnians is as essential to who we are as any
scientific breakthrough we make. We’re here when it matters most, and we’ll
continue to be the first to speak out for our diverse community’s wellbeing. As a
leader in clinical teaching and training, we also look to shape the healthcare and
research leaders of the future in collaboration with our teaching and training
partners.
We have strong relationships with leading academic institutions across clinical
specialties for undergraduate students, staff, post-graduate students and external
health professionals. Our enduring partnership with The University of Melbourne
has been in place for over 150 years.
