This guide could not have been possible without the contribution of medical students, hospital management teams, interns, AMA and many other people volunteering their time to update the information. For example, we have added eight new health networks across all states and territories to the internship guide. Good luck to the class of 2023! We hope that the information within this guide can be beneficial for you during your internship applications. BASIC INFORMATION
The Victorian Rural Generalist Gippsland Program is a joined up, innovative and
collaborative approach to rural medical training. Designed and delivered
cooperatively by our regional health partners and rural generalists, the program
offers a tailored and flexible training experience in one of the most beautiful regions
of Victoria.
The program offers interns an ideal opportunity to experience life as a rural
generalist whilst working in extended general practice and a supportive subregional
hospital environment. As part of a smaller team interns are not just a
number – they are known, respected and advocated for by supervisors and support
staff alike. The local VRGP team works closely with interns to manage and plan
their journey to meet the health needs of rural communities through priority
access to advanced skills training and education. Interns also benefit from
significant exposure to clinical procedures both in their community placements
and during their core hospital terms.
