NETWORK TRAINING SITES<br />

Austin Hospital, Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital, and Royal Talbot Hospital<br />

ROTATIONS AVAILABLE<br />

<strong>Internship</strong>: 5 terms, 3 of which will be core Medical, Surgical and Emergency<br />

Medicine. Emergency Medicine and General Medicine (both available at Austin,<br />

Echuca and Mildura), Endocrinology/Rheumatology, Gastroenterology, Liver<br />

Transplant Unit, Psychiatry, Spinal, and Stroke/Neurology. For surgery, there are<br />

rotations in the following units: Breast, Colorectal, ENT, Hepatobiliary and Upper GI<br />

BASIC INFORMATION<br />

Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional<br />

education and research in the North East of Melbourne. Austin Health is world<br />

renowned for its research and specialist work in many fields of medicine and<br />

provides statewide services in liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, respiratory<br />

support services, toxicology and paediatric mental health. We are also the centre<br />

for Veteran mental health services. Austin Health incorporates the Austin Hospital,<br />

Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital (HRH) and the Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre<br />

(RTRC) and is affiliated with eight universities, specifically the University of<br />

Melbourne Medical School for undergraduate and postgraduate medical<br />

education.<br />

REASONS TO APPLY<br />

Austin Health provides dedicated training time each week to interns through the<br />

Clinical Education Unit. The new Austin Tower possesses new HMO quarters, an<br />

extensive education precinct, and modern wards and facilities. A clinical skills lab is<br />

also situated on the Austin Hospital site, which provides hands-on training and<br />

simulated activities for all members of the healthcare team. The introduction of a<br />

new clinical information system at Austin with automated electronic inpatient and<br />

specialist clinic prescribing, drug administration, radiology, and pathology test<br />

ordering also eases patient management.<br />
