The 2023 edition of the AMSA Internship Guide is now available to read! This is the AMSA guide for the 2024 clinical year. This guide could not have been possible without the contribution of medical students, hospital management teams, interns, AMA and many other people volunteering their time to update the information. For example, we have added eight new health networks across all states and territories to the internship guide. Good luck to the class of 2023! We hope that the information within this guide can be beneficial for you during your internship applications. If you have any queries or feedback about the guide, please do not hesitate to email pdo@amsa.org.au.

VIC OVERVIEW
The Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV) coordinates the centralised
recruitment process through which medical intern positions in Victoria are filled.
The PMCV also accredits internship positions in Victoria.
APPLYING FOR INTERNSHIP
The intern application process for Victoria is through the PMCV Allocation and
Placement Service (APS) website. Candidates register to participate in the
Victorian Intern Match, via the APS, and nominate the health services and intern
training programs where they would like to be considered for internship positions,
in order of their preference.
Application components include completing a standardised online CV form,
nominating two clinical referees (who complete online referee report forms which
once submitted are saved against the candidate’s APS profile) and completing an
online, recorded video interview. Candidates may also be required to submit
direct applications to individual health services and intern training programs;
these requirements will vary depending on the individual health services
concerned. Health services may also coordinate their own interview process with
shortlisted candidates during the health service assessment period. Centralised
intern recruitment in Victoria is both merit- and preference-based.
Following implementation in 2021, the PMCV will continue to administer the
Victorian Rural Preferential Allocation (VRPA) round, which aims to fill Victorian
Rural Generalist Program (VRGP) internship positions and the majority of available
rural internship positions with candidates who are genuinely interested in a
medical career in rural Victoria. Eligible candidates wishing to participate in the
VRPA can apply via the Victorian Intern Match.
PRIORITY GROUPS
Based on the Victorian Department of Health approved eligibility criteria,
allocation of candidates to intern positions will take place in the following order:
Victorian Rural Preferential Allocation (VRPA) round
Priority Group 1 allocation round
Unmatched Priority Group 1 allocation process
Priority Group 2 allocation round
Priority Group 3 offers
National Late Vacancy Management process
The Victorian Intern Match eligibility categories and priority groups are listed in
the following page.
