The 2023 edition of the AMSA Internship Guide is now available to read! This is the AMSA guide for the 2024 clinical year. This guide could not have been possible without the contribution of medical students, hospital management teams, interns, AMA and many other people volunteering their time to update the information. For example, we have added eight new health networks across all states and territories to the internship guide. Good luck to the class of 2023! We hope that the information within this guide can be beneficial for you during your internship applications. If you have any queries or feedback about the guide, please do not hesitate to email pdo@amsa.org.au.

AMA (VIC)
Sincere congratulations to our new medical graduates! Your perseverance and
commitment particularly during the past challenging three years, is a credit to you.
Throughout my tenure as AMA Victoria President, our organisation has successfully
campaigned for a healthcare-led recovery for Victoria.
We have advocated that this recovery – encompassing investment into public
hospitals, general practice, and mental health – would not only lead to medical
recovery for Victorians, but also become the underlying driver of Victorian
economic recovery through investment in essential health infrastructure and
services.
As Victorian interns, you will be the vanguards of this recovery.
And, as you help Victoria recover, AMA Victoria is here to help you.
We are the principal voice advancing the Victorian medical profession and
influencing policy makers in this state. We proudly connect and support our
members, providing a unified voice to advocate for Victorian doctors and the
health of all Victorians.
As interns, AMA Victoria is here not only to give you a powerful voice in advocacy on
issues that you may care about (be it mental health, the sustainability of primary
care, climate change, racial equality, gender discrimination), but we also provide
collective industrial influence for you and other doctors in training (DiTs).
In 2022, we successfully negotiated an Enterprise Agreement (the document
containing the terms and conditions of your employment) that has significantly
improved working conditions for Victorian DiTs. Highlights include:
Increase of 4 weeks to 14 weeks paid parental leave for primary carer and an
additional week for non-primary carer.
From 1 March 2023 an additional 25% loading for work between 6pm and
Midnight Friday.
“Remote Recall” for DiTs which will see doctors paid for each hour they receive a
call instead of a flat rate for the whole shift.
