BASIC INFORMATION<br />

Toowoomba Hospital, part of the Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service, is a<br />

320-bed hospital providing Surgical, Orthopaedic, ENT Surgery, Ophthalmology,<br />

Urology, Obstetric, Paediatric and Neonatal care in Special Care Nursery,<br />

Anaesthesia, Intensive Care and High Dependency Care Medicine including<br />

Gastroenterology, Geriatrics, Endocrinology, Oncology, Respiratory, Renal and<br />

Emergency Medicine. The hospital has a large 59-bed acute Mental Health Unit.<br />

Toowoomba Hospital offers most major specialties, except neurosurgery and<br />

cardiothoracic surgery, with a wide range of postgraduate educational activities.<br />

The staff ratio of medical education for junior doctors is twice the state average<br />

Toowoomba hospital places a large emphasis on supporting their junior doctors<br />

which is reflected in the retention rate<br />

Toowoomba is known as the “Garden City” with beautiful parklands and<br />

reserves, and a pleasant, mild climate. It is also gaining a reputation for its arty<br />

laneways, superb coffee and vibrant cultural scene<br />
