The 2023 edition of the AMSA Internship Guide is now available to read! This is the AMSA guide for the 2024 clinical year. This guide could not have been possible without the contribution of medical students, hospital management teams, interns, AMA and many other people volunteering their time to update the information. For example, we have added eight new health networks across all states and territories to the internship guide. Good luck to the class of 2023! We hope that the information within this guide can be beneficial for you during your internship applications. If you have any queries or feedback about the guide, please do not hesitate to email pdo@amsa.org.au.

Congratulations! The future is yours
AMA (QLD)
Firstly, and most importantly, welcome to the profession. You are entering at an
unprecedented and uncertain time. COVID-19 disrupted studies and exams,
practical placements and opportunities to socialise and network at conferences
and seminars, and created instant experts who think five minutes on Google
healthcare workers on the frontline in this pandemic.
So congratulations – you have made it through the pandemic and are about to
start the next phase of your lives in what I genuinely believe is the most challenging
and rewarding of professions. I love being a doctor. You will love being a doctor. It is
a profession of unlimited opportunity and immense satisfaction.
The effort you’ve already put in to get to this stage is significant and, as you
continue to train on the job, there is much work awaiting you. As those years come
and your resource.
Your studies have given you skills, experiences, friends and networks that will stay
with you throughout life. They will be your foundation. However, you will continue
learning and building newer and bigger networks. That is the nature of medicine.
AMA Queensland is a crucial part of your bigger network.
We understand the challenges ahead of you as you start your working life as a
doctor – career progression, certainty of training, appropriate industrial
arrangements, safe working conditions and
