Finka Don Geronimo
Quality,roasted in Costa RicaAde
The story of Don Geronimo
Don Geronimo was born in 1945
in Germany.
About 30 years ago (today 2023) he was
drawn by wanderlust to Costa Rica,
where he still lives and produces coffee.
The passion for roasting coffee has
always been in his blood. As a trained
mechanical engineer, so also his
inventive spirit. Just this inventor in him
moved in addition excellente coffees to
make even better according to its principle.
Precisely, through the craft of roasting. But
roasting alone was not enough. This process of
processing also had to be further optimized
and improved. After more than 15 years, he
succeeded in achieving what he called the
"perfect result".
He called it "Sin Bibo Pur" A completely new
process to produce coffee by the way of
roasting.
The Finca Don Geronimo is centrally
located in the heart of beautiful Costa
Rica not far from the capital San Jose
and the Pacific Ocean at about 800m
altitude in the small village of Atenas,
according to NASA the best climate in
the world. For many a perfect vacation
spot for us, home and production site of
the best coffee in the world in our
opinion.
Our Geronimo coffee bean is a blend of
different Arabica coffee beans. It is a
differentiated coffee that comes from
the middle of the harvest, that is,
harvested when the coffee has reached
its maximum maturity, when it contains
all the sugar and juice of the fruit. This
coffee has a perfect balance between
body and aroma, typical of the Atenas
region.
Our Geronimo Highland coffee bean is a
blend of our own beans and smaller
coffee farmers from our region. The
reason for mixing the beans is that the
coffee plants are only grown on so-called
"micro lots" by many individual small
farmers. So also smaller farmers profit.
Besides this Caturra coffee, there have
been other mutations from Bourbon. In
El Salvador, the Pacas variety has been
formed and was discovered there in
1949, while in Costa Rica a natural
crossing of the Bourbon and Typica
varieties was found in the 1950s: This
mutation is known as Villa Sarchi (other
name La Luisa or Villalobos Bourbon).
designated and grown at altitudes from
1600 to 2200 meters. Here, too, the
single gene mutation has led to
dwarfism. Precisely because of this, the
plant is optimally adapted to high
altitudes and strong winds.
Cultiviation height 1900 m
Coffee was first imported from Ethiopia
to Costa Rica in the 1950s to the Tropical
Agricultural Research and Higher
Education Center. After that, Geisha
became a new variety of coffee grown in
Panama. Hacienda la Esmeralda was one
of the farms that took the seed. Today,
geisha costs up to $110 a cup, making it
the most expensive coffee in the world.
New high prices are achieved at the
auction there every year.
Christopher Columbus discovered what is
now Costa Rica in 1502, but it was not
until 1560 that Spain began to colonize
it. This colonial phase, in which the
region was of rather minor importance,
ended in 1821 with the declaration of
independence. From 1823 to 1838 Costa
Rica was a member of a Central
American confederation, but became
independent in 1838. Coffee and bananas
soon formed the economic basis and
produced a conservative class of
landowners.
