home of the crime-fighting heroes to see what really 

happens in their secret hideaway. 

The four funny Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will 

share life lessons and team-building skills with their 

crime-fighting tactics. Through team-building 

challenges, collaborative games and mind teasing 

puzzles, families and friends will learn skills to help 

them successfully work together.

ESO cellist Sara Sitzer explores the 

incredible musical culture of Terezín, 

the Nazi concentration camp for artists 

during World War II. Gideon Klein was a 

Czechoslovakian pianist and composer 

who performed at Terezín. Following the 

lecture, musicians will perform Gideon 

Klein’s trio, his last composition before he 

died in a concentration camp.

Be a Good Neighbor. Clean Up After Your Pet. 

The City of Elgin’s Public Health Division wishes 

to remind residents to clean up their pets’ 

waste during walks. Animal feces may contain 

harmful germs. Harmful germs like bacteria, 

viruses and parasites can contaminate the 

environment and waterways, and members of 

our community who play outside, like children 

and other pets, may be more at risk to coming 

in contact. Please respect the environment and our community by 

remembering to bring pet waste bags along with you on your walks and 

dispose of them in proper trash receptacles to help keep neighborhoods 

clean, healthy, and safe. 

Code Compliance Tips & Reminders 

• Unpaved Parking – Parking on the grass or sidewalk is prohibited. The 

parking of motor vehicles shall be on approved paved surfaces only. 

• Commercial Vehicles & Trailers – Commercial vehicles, trailers and 

campers are not allowed on residential properties. 

• Motor Vehicles – Inoperable, unlicensed, and dismantled vehicles stored 

on the exterior are prohibited. 

• Exterior Storage – Please make sure all garbage, debris and household 

items are not stored on the parkway or exterior of your property. 

• Storage of Garbage and Recycling Containers – Garbage and recycling 

containers can be brought out the day before collection after 5:00 PM 

and on collection day they must be stored out of public view by Midnight. 

Reminder: When you place your garbage and recycling containers out 

for collection, do not block the bike lanes. Instead of placing your cans in 

the bike lane please use the parkway or your driveway apron. 

• Exterior Property Maintenance – Make sure your property is in good 

condition. This includes checking for peeling paint, siding is free of holes, 

no broken windows and primary and accessory structures are structurally 

sound. 

• Inspections – Final inspections are required to close out a permit. Call 

311 to schedule an inspection. 

• Deposits on the Street – It is unlawful for any person to deposit on the 

street, sidewalk, or alley any dirt, grass clippings, mud, clay gravel, 

stones, plant matter, snow, refuse or garbage. Leaves are allowed only 

during on-street leaf collection times and areas. 

• Weeds/Tall Grass – Exterior property needs to be maintained free from 

weeds of any heights and grass in excess of 8 inches. 

City of Elgin Free Water Testing and Filter Distribution Program 

The City of Elgin has partnered with 120Water to offer 

free water testing and pitcher filter kits for water 

customers who live or do business in Elgin. This new 

program is designed to help residents and business 

owners identify and reduce lead in their drinking 

water. 

The program is available to Elgin residents (tenant or 

property owner) or business owners with an active 

water account in a house or building built before 1988. 

Single-family residential, small multi-family residential 

or businesses with a water service diameter of 

two-inches or smaller and schools or childcare facilities 

served by known or potential lead service lines are 

eligible for this new program. Active water customers 

can request a water testing kit or pitcher filter kit, or 

both, directly at cityofelgin.org/waterkit. 

As a reminder, lead is not present in Elgin's source 

water, nor is lead in Elgin's treated drinking water. 

Some homes and buildings built before 1988, 

however, have water service lines, solder, or fixtures 

made of lead, and lead can enter the drinking water 

through the corrosion of plumbing materials.

your perspective, learn about the process of local government and working as a team with a common 

goal. Each board or commission has its own specific duties and functions.

Elgin Celebrates Preservation Month in May 

Historic preservation in Elgin has been making advances for over 40 

years. Efforts began in the early 1980s as a grassroots movement by 

residents. The City of Elgin, in partnership with the Elgin Heritage 

Commission and the National Trust for Historic Preservation, celebrates 

its heritage with a series of events in May—Preservation Month. Find
