Dear Friends &<br />

<strong>Intercoiffure</strong> Members<br />

These are still troubled times - normality is different. However, there<br />

is no doubt that despite all the adversity, quality endures and is the<br />

basis of success.<br />

We are in a profession that requires a lot of empathy, because we<br />

have direct contact with people who do not just come to us in the<br />

salons to look good after professional styling. Our customers seek social contact<br />

with us - this special competence is one of the core tasks of the hairdressers of<br />

<strong>Intercoiffure</strong> Mondial, our association of the world's leading hairdressers.<br />

It is not possible for us to have a direct influence on the world, but we can make an indirect<br />

contribution to improving wellbeing through our interactions, services and individual<br />

pampering programmes.<br />

Former fashion dictates have long since been replaced by individuality. We still set accents.<br />

Whether curtain bangs, curls, waves, red, copper or blonde hair - we, hairdressers, are allowed<br />

to influence our customers in their appearance! I would go so far as to say we MUST influence<br />

them! Many hairdressers claim that they advise well and intensively. But there are a lot of clients<br />

who say that they have never or only rarely been advised. Maybe this discrepancy is down to<br />

our understanding of what a consultation is. We should ask ourselves: what do our customers<br />

expect?<br />

This point doesn’t only concern women. Our male customers – who are, after all, about half<br />

of humanity - also want our professional recommendations. They want more than just a<br />

haircut. Men want to be pampered and transported into their male world. With "<strong>Intercoiffure</strong><br />

MasterBarber" we are creating a new quality theme and we look forward to as many barbers as<br />

possible from our members signing up to these quality standards. And yes, we also see ourselves<br />

- just as in the women’s sector - as "the world's leading men hairdressers!”<br />

We can share all these ideas over the summer. Our annual <strong>Intercoiffure</strong> event will take place<br />

this year on the Côte d'Azur. We join the event of our <strong>Intercoiffure</strong> friends in France, which<br />

has already taken place several times. This year we will not meet in Paris,<br />

but in Saint-Tropez. On the one hand, it is a vacation resort for the rich and<br />

fashionista, on the other hand it is also one of the most beautiful places to be<br />

reunited. There we will also visit the resting place of our former World President<br />

and my mentor, the great Monsieur Alexandre de Paris, and be inspired by the<br />

flair of the South of France and, of course, by hair shows from Japan, France and<br />

the youngs of the Fondation Guillaume. The social part will not be neglected!<br />

Men in focus: <strong>Intercoiffure</strong> MasterBarber<br />

MasterBarber is the name of <strong>Intercoiffure</strong> Mondial's innovative concept for the best<br />

men's hairstylists and aims to bring a new level of quality and professionalism to men's<br />

hairdressing. ICD Mondial President Peter F. Pfister and ICD Mondial Vice President<br />

Frank Gambuzza have jointly developed the ambitious MasterBarber project.<br />

For Peter F. Pfister, MasterBarber by<br />

<strong>Intercoiffure</strong> Mondial is a matter of the<br />

heart. There is an extraordinary concept<br />

behind it that sets a new standard for the<br />

men's hairdressing sector. The <strong>Intercoiffure</strong><br />

Mondial President describes the idea:<br />

"The beauty industry has moved towards<br />

masculine products and services in recent<br />

years, but the men's hairdressing sector<br />

has not been able to follow this trend. With<br />

MasterBarber, <strong>Intercoiffure</strong> Mondial now offers<br />

an excellent quality for men with services that<br />

good hairdressers/barbers should normally<br />

offer holistically in their salons/barbershops.<br />

In some regions of our world, the term<br />

barber is often misinterpreted by customers:<br />

sometimes they assume that it refers to pure<br />

beard care, or they imagine that it refers<br />

to cheap men's hairdressers of low quality.<br />

As already announced and described at the<br />

last events, MasterBarber is about bringing the<br />

classic and holistic men's barber closer to the<br />

image of the "world's leading men hairdressers".<br />

In this way, we want to ensure that men and<br />

women are treated fairly and equally to meet<br />

demand, and communicate it accordingly. Wellknown<br />

men's stylists, some of whom also offer<br />

very successful seminars for our partner firms<br />

and run their salons/barbershops at the highest<br />

level have joined forces and given barbers the<br />

next level of quality with the word "Master".<br />

MASTERBARBER<br />

There is an idea and a concept behind this:<br />

as detailed in the original statutes of our<br />

association, it is about the international exchange<br />

of knowledge, skills and experience between<br />

like-minded people - i.e. all hairdressers/barbers<br />

who are dedicated to men's fashion, hairstyles<br />

and beards, as well as a whole range of well-being<br />

services for men.<br />

<strong>Intercoiffure</strong> MasterBarber offers a full range<br />

of high-quality services specifically for men.<br />

To that end, we provide an education and<br />

training programme within the framework of<br />

the <strong>Intercoiffure</strong> WorldAcademy, in which the<br />

employees of our member salons/barbershops<br />

can acquire and perfect versatile techniques on<br />

various topics.<br />

This is offered in a kind of module programme<br />

in several parts. It covers basic techniques<br />

from classic men's haircuts for international<br />

businessman styles to street-style looks.<br />

Starting in spring, this comprehensive<br />

programme will run at <strong>Intercoiffure</strong> Mondial's<br />

House of Nations in Paris and will offer practical<br />

training and mentoring - Holger Maas will start<br />

in May on the topic of trend scouting, Sebastian<br />

Pfister will follow with hair and beard cutting<br />

techniques.<br />

There are also additional offers on topics such<br />

as movement, curls or colouring techniques for<br />

men; and: MasterBarber Business Seminars.<br />

This project should start in late summer 2023<br />

and perhaps culminate in a biennial <strong>Intercoiffure</strong><br />

MasterBarber Congress in 2024 for international<br />

exchange. This special congress should take<br />

place in the metropolises of the MasterBarber<br />

and include a lively exchange and salon tours.<br />

The versatility of men's fashion was represented<br />

in our first <strong>Intercoiffure</strong> MasterBarber collection<br />

"Phoenix" and shows the numerous possibilities<br />

and hair lengths which should be offered in<br />

a salon/barbershop. The "Phoenix" collection<br />

was created by the first core team around<br />

ICD Mondial Vice President Frank Gambuzza<br />

from Knoxville/Tennessee.<br />

In order to make competence in the men's trade<br />

visible to the outside world, we have created a<br />

corresponding MasterBarber logo. This enables<br />

salons/barbershops to market themselves<br />

accordingly using the new <strong>Intercoiffure</strong><br />

MasterBarber emblem.<br />

<strong>Intercoiffure</strong> is an organisation that stands for<br />

quality and friendship in our profession. The<br />

MasterBarber concept promotes the highest level<br />

of craftsmanship and we invite good, professional<br />

men's barbers to become part of this movement."<br />

feeling and glamour on the southern French coast and<br />

travels to Saint-Tropez for a glamorous award ceremony,<br />

shows. <strong>Intercoiffure</strong> France will round off the event with a<br />

"Soirée Blanche". For two days in early July 2023, fashion and<br />

friendship will be celebrated. <strong>Intercoiffure</strong> friends from all<br />

Soirée Blanche 2019 at the Domaine Bertaud Belieu estate<br />

The event kicks off on the afternoon of July 1 with<br />

the legendary Chevalerie Award Ceremony at<br />

the Salle Jean Despas. <strong>Intercoiffure</strong> members are<br />

honored for their service at an awards ceremony.<br />

Glitz and glam are the order of the day in the<br />

evening, when all guests gather at the hip Moorea<br />

Beach Club for a spectacular beach party.<br />

On Sunday, July 2, the Soirée Blanche, a night<br />

all in white, will take place in the evening at the<br />

beautiful Domaine Bertaud Belieu estate, where<br />

Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio has previously<br />

celebrated. There will be great outdoor fashion<br />

shows by <strong>Intercoiffure</strong> France with renowned<br />

hair artist Christophe-Nicolas Biot, the<br />

Fondation Guillaume and <strong>Intercoiffure</strong> Japan.<br />

Sylvie Grammatico, President <strong>Intercoiffure</strong><br />

France, says: "La Soirée Blanche de La Coiffure<br />

in Saint Tropez has become a unique event.<br />

Launched in 2017, it brings together hair and<br />

beauty professionals from around the world<br />

to celebrate the excellence and diversity of the<br />

world of hairdressing. The evening is a great<br />

opportunity to network, and to enjoy the culinary<br />

"We love creating beauty and giving it to the world."<br />

After more than a year of the brutal war against Ukraine, how can you remain hopeful?<br />

"We stand for optimism and strength," says Natasha Balabanova, President <strong>Intercoiffure</strong><br />

Ukraine. Together with members of the ICD Ukraine section, she is currently working<br />

on the fashion project "Victorious," which is being filmed and photographed in Kyiv.<br />

Her willpower is unwavering: "We win when we believe in ourselves." In the summer she<br />

would like to see her international <strong>Intercoiffure</strong> friends again in Saint-Tropez.<br />

Natasha, what is the situation in Kyiv at the<br />

moment?<br />

NATASHA BALABANOVA: It is unbelievable that<br />

this brutal war has been going on for more than<br />

a year. What is happening day by day defies<br />

common sense. Russia is attacking us with<br />

the cruellest weapons, and Ukraine is facing<br />

genocide.<br />

Ukrainians have united and continue to live,<br />

work and support the army with donations.<br />

We must survive and preserve our identity as a<br />

nation, and we are proud of our defenders. Kyiv<br />

is relatively well protected by a defense system,<br />

but bombs have occasionally flown into<br />

residential buildings. We are all worried and<br />

pray every time an airstrike is announced. We go<br />

to the shelters - it affects the psyche.<br />

Are your <strong>Intercoiffure</strong> friends still in Kyiv and<br />

working in the salon?<br />

Several <strong>Intercoiffure</strong> members have returned<br />

to Kyiv but continue to work abroad in order to<br />

earn money and continue to finance their salons<br />

in Ukraine. One member had to close his salon.<br />

Because there are not enough customers, I also<br />

have fewer employees in my salon in Kyiv. The<br />

business situation is difficult, but I will stay<br />

in Ukraine to work. After all, we expect a 100%<br />

victory for a free Ukraine.<br />

What is your life like in Kyiv?<br />

From the first days of the war up to the present, I<br />

have remained in Kyiv. We are actively pursuing<br />

the work of our "Education for Life" section and<br />

are now teaching another group of students until<br />

summer.<br />

I have released several photos over the past year<br />

under the name BEREHYNYA and just finished<br />

shooting video and photo footage with a team for<br />

our new project, VICTORIOUS.<br />

What do you want to achieve with Victorious?<br />

We are working on creating a three-minute<br />

video that shows the idea of Victorious and a<br />

beautiful fashion presentation with eight<br />

models. I would love to show this video online in<br />

Saint-Tropez. With this performance, we would<br />

thank the entire international organisation<br />

<strong>Intercoiffure</strong> Mondial for their financial support<br />

by presenting our vision of fashion. Because<br />

despite this brutal war, we have the potential<br />

to continue. The entire Ukrainian <strong>Intercoiffure</strong><br />

team has been working on this. I was inspired<br />

by the "Soirée Blanche" in Saint-Tropez - all<br />

in white. Our message is that we win when we<br />

believe in ourselves. We love to design, to create<br />

beauty and give it to the world! This project itself<br />

represents optimism and strength, two qualities<br />

that unite all members of <strong>Intercoiffure</strong>.<br />

What kind of support have you received from<br />

<strong>Intercoiffure</strong> and friends from all over the<br />

world?<br />

There was so much support from so many<br />

countries. I will never forget and will be grateful<br />

all my life for how many warm letters and<br />

invitations I received. And the financial support<br />

was immense. We went through many difficult<br />

days, there was no heating and we were always<br />

in constant fear in Kyiv. But we were not going to<br />

let all of that get us down. Last autumn, in Paris, I<br />

had the opportunity to thank all the members and<br />

partners of the organisation for their generous<br />

donations - and I never tire of doing so.<br />

Germany will be the host country for the<br />

ICD Mondial World Congress 2025.<br />

A century of friendship and excellence<br />

in hairdressing will be celebrated in the<br />

Hanseatic city of Hamburg from May 31<br />

to June 3, 2025. Markus Herrmann, Vice<br />

WORLD CONGRESS<br />

Looking ahead to a mega-event: the<br />

<strong>Intercoiffure</strong> World Congress 2025 in<br />

Hamburg. In two years, Intercoiffeurs will<br />

present global hair fashion in the Hanseatic city<br />

- a city steeped in history for the association<br />

because it was in Hamburg that hairdressers<br />

from Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Denmark<br />

and England founded the Internationale<br />

Gesellschaft der Damen Coiffeure (IGDC) in 1925.<br />

In 2025, <strong>Intercoiffure</strong> Mondial returns to its<br />

place of origin for its 100th birthday. "Because<br />

on April 14, 1925, <strong>Intercoiffure</strong> was founded<br />

in the Chamber of Crafts of the Hanseatic<br />

City of Hamburg," says Markus Herrmann,<br />

Vice President of <strong>Intercoiffure</strong> Mondial and<br />

President of <strong>Intercoiffure</strong> Germany. "All of us,<br />

the board of ICD Germany and all members<br />

are proud and grateful to have won the bid."<br />

And Peter F. Pfister, President <strong>Intercoiffure</strong><br />

Mondial, adds, "To survive 100 years as the<br />

professional association of the world’s leading<br />

hairdressers means that our community has<br />

overcome turbulent times. It is testament to<br />

the immense solidarity of our members. While<br />

there were five nations then, today there are<br />

five continents and some 40 member countries!<br />

The fashion, the hairdressing techniques, many<br />

things have changed, and have become looser<br />

and even more individual. But it’s always the<br />

perfection of the craft that counts in the end!"<br />

The cosmopolitan metropolis on the<br />

Elbe is known as the "Gateway to the<br />

World" - with a vibrant cultural scene, rich<br />

history and breathtaking architecture. It is<br />

the perfect location to host the international<br />

community of <strong>Intercoiffure</strong> Mondial.<br />

"We will do everything we can to provide an<br />

unforgettable experience - a World Congress<br />

that creatively combines fashion and hair<br />

art, tradition and modernity," says Markus.<br />

"We want to surprise our international<br />

<strong>Intercoiffure</strong> friends. Put it in your calendars<br />

now for May 31-June 3, 2025, to celebrate the<br />

100th anniversary of <strong>Intercoiffure</strong> Mondial in<br />

the incomparable atmosphere of Hamburg."<br />

The organizing team is already full of verve and<br />

passion. "We are all looking forward to a special<br />

celebration with like-minded people in 2025,<br />

following in the footsteps of our ancestors,"<br />

says Peter. The <strong>Intercoiffure</strong> World Congress in<br />

Hamburg will be a great birthday celebration.<br />

Wigs are a great medical aid, but also a<br />

fashion accessory and consulting aid.<br />

One person who knows a lot about wigs is<br />

<strong>Intercoiffure</strong> Mondial President Peter F.<br />

Pfister. In addition to his hair salon, the<br />

hairdresser also runs two wig studios.<br />

His current shoot shows the versatility of<br />

wigs on two models.<br />

TRENDY WIG STYLES<br />

In the 1960s, wigs were an absolute<br />

must in hair fashion.<br />

Today, the wig business has<br />

changed dramatically. The quality<br />

is better and more versatile,<br />

synthetic fibres are more heatresistant<br />

and the comfort is much<br />

improved. But are wigs also a<br />

fashion accessory? Stars like<br />

Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry<br />

have proven with their spectacular<br />

looks that wigs can also be a fashion<br />

statement.<br />

In most cases, however, wigs<br />

are needed for medical reasons.<br />

Cancer and the consequences of<br />

chemotherapy often lead to hair<br />

loss, and an optimally fitted wig<br />

can give those affected a sense of<br />

well-being, because the disease is<br />

not visually in the foreground, so<br />

not everyone sees that you are not<br />

healthy. Celebrities such as Tyra<br />

Banks and Naomi Campbell have<br />

also spoken openly about their<br />

experiences with hair loss, showing<br />

that wigs are a wonderful way to<br />

regain self-confidence.<br />

Expert Peter F. Pfister says: "If it is often said<br />

that joy and sorrow are common bedfellows, and<br />

that is also very special professionally. On the<br />

one hand, the diagnosis of cancer is a burdening<br />

message, but if we are allowed to customize a<br />

wig for customers, we can also see how a bit of<br />

joie de vivre and wellbeing can return despite the<br />

difficult situation. Not only putting on a wig but<br />

fitting it to the wearer also demands the skills of<br />

our learned craft!" The Pfister family business has<br />

been working with wigs since 1961. Then in 1993,<br />

the first wig studio was opened with probably the<br />

largest selection in Austria - there are about 1,200<br />

wigs stored and displayed on mannequin heads.<br />

The desire to change one’s look for an evening,<br />

to have a different appearance or to portray a<br />

different character is also a reason why the wig<br />

is making a comeback. Manufacturers have<br />

responded by producing lightweight, fashionable<br />

wigs at affordable prices. And one more thing:<br />

wigs are also an excellent aid in style consulting.<br />

Says Peter F. Pfister, "Showing clients who are<br />

willing to change to a new hair colour or length<br />

with a wig often makes it easier to make decisions<br />

and gives confidence on the path to the new you!"<br />

Global President Peter F. Pfister travelled to Italy and Asia to<br />

attend spring events and show appreciation to his colleagues<br />

and friends for their dedication, make new contacts, and<br />

exchange ideas with valued business partners.<br />

ICD Italy Fashion Launch<br />

Full of energy, Gerry Santoro, the new<br />

President of <strong>Intercoiffure</strong> Italy, presented<br />

the spring event Fashion Launch in<br />

Montecatini Terme. Peter F. Pfister was a guest<br />

in Tuscany and was impressed by "the creativity<br />

and enthusiasm of our Italian friends". Andreas<br />

Innfeld, President ICD Austria and Central<br />

Committee member, also attended the event.<br />

The new President of <strong>Intercoiffure</strong> Italy wants to<br />

grow the organisation in his region and make it<br />

better known without renouncing its traditional<br />

values. 180 potential <strong>Intercoiffure</strong> members<br />

attended the two-day event. The highlight: the<br />

Fashion Launch where some of the best Italian<br />

hairdressers presented 27 models. The "New Era"<br />

collection featured six hairstyles, which offered<br />

wearable daytime looks and glamorous elegance<br />

at night. Variations of chignon and braids, which<br />

have been around for centuries, delighted the<br />

audience. Hair fashion professionals Goran and<br />

France Viler, Roberto Lorenzoni, Orazio Spisto,<br />

Vito d'Aquino, Giovanna Parisi, Massimo Selce,<br />

Gerry Santoro, Sonia Felici and Sergio Valente<br />

presented spectacular shows over three hours.<br />

The grand finale was reserved for Luigi Serrone.<br />

He showed the audience three different wedding<br />

hairstyles for spring/summer 2023. The audience<br />

celebrated the passion and skill of the experienced<br />

hairdresser.<br />

Peter F. Pfister's conclusion: "I was thrilled to<br />

meet more members of <strong>Intercoiffure</strong> Italy and<br />

see how passionate they are about their work<br />

and their craft. Gerry Santoro has good ideas<br />

for hairdresser education and we are happy to<br />

continue to exchange ideas about this, including<br />

through our WorldAcademy."<br />

with hospitality and welcomed with<br />

open arms during his five-day trip<br />

to Tokyo for the <strong>Intercoiffure</strong> Asia<br />

Seminar Congress.<br />

"I gained great insights, had<br />

valuable meetings with our sections<br />

in the region, our Asian partners<br />

such as Aderans, Kao, Milbon<br />

and other companies such as<br />

Y.S.Park and Takara-Belmont and<br />

many members from Japan, China,<br />

South Korea, Thailand, Taiwan and<br />

Hong Kong ", said Peter F. Pfister.<br />

<strong>Intercoiffure</strong> Asia Seminar Congress<br />

Attendance at the seminars was brisk - a varied<br />

programme of cutting and colour techniques was<br />

presented and explained by Mr. Koji Yamashita,<br />

Mr. Toshiyuki Komatsu, Mr. Hiroaki Kinoshita,<br />

Ms. Mayumi Iida and Ms. Tomoka Kodama.<br />

Peter: "A special thanks goes to our ICD Mondial Vice<br />

President Junji Yamano, who coordinated all the<br />

appointments and also arranged the trips around<br />

town! And of course, to the Asia Region President<br />

Eizo Kakimoto, who organized a wonderful event<br />

including a fundrasing for our friends in Ukraine.<br />

With a grand finale: a gorgeous gala party decorated<br />

with cherry blossom branches."<br />

The ICD Mondial President also introduced the<br />

new membership programme, the upcoming World<br />

Congress in Hamburg 2025, and the MasterBarber<br />

programme, which received much positive feedback.<br />

Asia has already set its sights on appearing at the<br />

World Congress with a large number of participants<br />

and representing the strength of our Asian colleagues.<br />

"The Asia Region now has two Region Vice Presidents,<br />

Hiroyuki Obayashi ( Japan) and George Xu (China).<br />

There was great joy about the re-openings after the<br />

strict Corona rules," said Peter. "Our Asian Region is<br />

full of drive for the future. And ICD Japan is already<br />

excited and happy about their upcoming show in<br />

Saint-Tropez."<br />
