Just embrace yourself “I want to live with minimal regrets. The core of what I do is constantly seeking joy. I don’t want to ever have a day where nothing really cool happened.” In a perfect role that combines all of her passions, Shay channelled her love and knowledge of the inner and outer self into organising mindfulness retreats. She is currently the co-owner of Santé, a retreat business where she teaches surfing, yoga, nutrition and health in places like the Sunshine Coast hinterland. For those interested, Shay said she has four retreats coming up and is currently planning on running one in New Caledonia. “Another thing we are doing is a retreat in the camping grounds of Noosa North Shore, which we haven’t done before. This New Year’s I had a pretty rough time, as it was my first time being single for 15 years or something like that. I really didn’t want to drink, I just wanted to be under the stars camping and go surfing the next morning, so I thought to build a retreat around that. We are going to be taking bookings really soon with glamping and camping options, which is really exciting. “I am also about to launch a yoga training course, Shakes Yoga, with my yoga crew that I like. The teacher I look up to is basically my guru, and he wanted me to jump on board because of my level of teaching and how obsessed I am with anatomy. I think I’ve had over 50 people that are keen. “I just released an eBook as well which is actually in three parts. One chapter is based on mindfulness, and it’s all about the stuff I learnt in my twenties. The other chapters include about 65-plant based recipes and some workout routines.” In addition to studying and running her retreats, Shay also takes care of her other prosperous businesses and travels wherever life takes her while doing so. As someone who lives in the moment, she is just enjoying chasing waves, eating veggies and getting excited about the many things she occupies her days with. After a sunrise surf session and a coffee, Shay left us with the warming feeling that, perfectly balanced lifestyle or not, life is there to be enjoyed. “I’m kind of living up to everything I wanted. Everything so far in my life has fallen into place. So long as I’m enjoying life and still getting to surf, dance and do the fun things, that’s all that matters.” she said. <strong>SB</strong> / #55 / 62
