Chapter 8Adversaries ofthe Old WorldThis chapter provides a selection of adversariesfound in The Old World setting. Unlikeother products, we used a simplified approachfor presenting an adversary’s skills, gatheringthem instead into 5 groups: Combat, General,Knowledge, Magic and Social.If an adversary has 3 ranks in the General skill,we assume all skills under the General categoryexist at rank 3. Of course, in some situationsthis may make no sense. For example, a ChaosSpawn with 3 ranks in Sailing skill seems absurd,and so it’s the up to the GM to determinewhat applies and what doesn’t. Minions, asusual, gain skills only as a group and we markthem accordingly with a “+”.Contrary to the various Genesys settings, TheOld World's adversaries offer a greater challengeand danger—even the weakest ones—with abilities and talents that present a seriousthreat to the PCs. Combat should always remaina last resort in solving problems. Shouldthis occur, however, make it action packed,deadly, and difficult.In case you wish to use adversaries from othersettings such as from the Realms of TerrinothSetting, remember to consider increasingthe damage of their attacks and their woundsthresholds. You may even consider decreasingtheir critical ratings or giving them additionalabilities or weapon qualities if necessary. However,do not overdo it! We want the combat to bechallenging in an entertaining way, not hopeless!Ghoul (Rival)Ghouls are the degenerated descendants ofhumans who were reduced to cannibalisticcreatures due to the consumption of raw or decayingflesh. They are ugly, stooping creatureswith only a vestigial sense of their former life orpersonality. Their skin is sallow and filthy, theireyes are bestial and insane, and their snarlinglips reveal sharp-pointed teeth in slaveringmouths.
