This elegant island inspired restaurant is the perfect antidote
for whatever ails you. The food is French Vietnamese,
and the décor is simply out of this world.
Tropical greenery and palm trees soften the blow of reality,
and large colorful murals paint a picture of a life well lived.
There are cocktail lounges reminiscent of Hollywood’s
golden era and plush sofas. Island music serenades you and
their signature cocktails are abundant.
Restaurateurs Rick Wahlstedt and Joe King’s goal was to
create an ambience that evokes a distinctive flair that resonates
with its buzzy beachfront vibe.
Bikes for Tikes Program
The joys of summertime bike rides will be made possible for
hundreds of local kids thanks to the Boca West Children’s Foundation’s
(BWCF) annual Bikes for Tikes program. Bikes for Tikes
provides a bike and helmet to children who may not have the opportunity
to experience the rite of passage of owning a bicycle.
“Our recipients will include students from Roots & Wings who
reach their target reading level during the school year, as well as
Pre-K graduates from the YMCA and Fuller Center,” said Pamela
Weinroth, Executive Director/COO of Boca West Children’s Foundation.
“The generosity and support we receive from the community
makes a world of difference in a child’s life!”
The campaign is kicking off now as summertime nears and members
of the community are invited to support the program. A donation
of $160 will provide a child with a bike and helmet.
“Seeing the joy on the kids’ faces as they receive their bikes is
truly priceless and is a testament to the impact that this program
has on these children’s lives,” said Richard Zenker, Board Chair of
the Boca West Children’s Foundation.
Cruiser Palooza never disappoints in providing a fun-filled evening
The Achievement Centers for Children & Families (ACCF) has
launched a Black Literacy Program in its Early Learning Program.
The program aims to build positive male role models in the
lives of children that the Center serves.
Each month, black male staff members will read a children’s
book to their assigned classroom and engage with the students. The
program seeks to promote multicultural awareness, diversity, and
literacy among the income constrained children of Delray Beach.
“The students seem so focused on the book and eager to learn
about diversity. It moves me to see how excited they are to hear the
story,” said Alfred Williams, Support Services & IT Administrator.
“Give a child a few minutes of your day and it could make the difference
of a lifetime for their future.”
According to statistical data by ELP, nearly one-fourth of American
children live in single-mother families. Of the children living
with their mothers, 35 percent of them never see their fathers.
Additional data suggests that male role models play a pivotal role
in children’s physical and emotional development as well as their
overall confidence. With this in mind, ACCF decided to create the
Black Literacy Program. The objective of this program is to provide
male mentorship and advocacy while improving educational outcomes
for underserved children.
Delray Under $50
Most Fun Small Town, Most Crazy Small Town, Most Small Town that Feels
Like a Big Town. Delray has it all. With a bustling downtown, Pineapple
Grove area, and little nooks and crannies in between, there’s more
to do in Delray now than ever, with events and happenings
spanning from daytime to nighttime. While it can
seem expensive at times, there’s a great
opportunity to enjoy all the City has to offer
without breaking the bank. Here’s what you can
do in Delray Beach in April for $50 or less.
What continues to look better
after six decades in action?
Well, probably a few
humans, wine, leather boots, but not
much else. That is, unless you’re the
Delray Affair, which is back and celebrating
its 61st celebration along
Atlantic Avenue. April is Straw Hat
Month and is the perfect time
to show that dome protector
some action, too. Nicknamed the
“Greatest Show under the Delray
Sun,” the Delray Affair is one of the largest arts and craft festivals
in the Southeast United States. You can expect to enjoy an eclectic
mixture of fine art, great crafts, and funky products from around
the world from more than 400 artists and crafters. Additionally,
there will be live music, a beer garden and food vendors at Old
School Square, so there’s literally opportunity for fun around every
corner. The event is held Friday, April 14 and Saturday, April 15
from 10 am to 6 pm and Sunday, April 16 from 10 am to 5 pm, and
stretches from Southwest Fifth Avenue to Northeast Fifth Avenue.
The Delray Affair is a “must” event in Downtown Delray and you’re
sure to enjoy the sights, find a new addition for your home, or just
grab some sun and fresh air! Visit www.downtowndelraybeach.
com or call (561) 243-1077 for complete event details.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock,
you’ve certainly heard about the pickleball
craze. It’s the new, new way to
exercise, have fun and be social, and it’s literally
everywhere. Seriously, it’s like the older
generation is getting back at us for making
fun of them for eating early and wearing
mismatching plaid. But honestly, who cares?
They were right! April is National Pickleball Month and if you
haven’t yet joined the everybody-is-welcome way to exercise,
here’s your sign. Pickleball is a fun sport that combines
Unless you’re Dwight and Angela from The Office (“Jazz is
stupid! I mean, just play the right notes!”), there’s a good
chance you’re a fan of jazz. Smooth melodies, naughty
notes, and soulful rhythms lend themselves to a nice night in or
a dimly lighted, velvet-booth night out. April is Jazz Appreciation
Month and if you’re not sure where to turn, look no further than
Arts Garage. With their quintet, reedmen Peter and Will Anderson
present the work of the King of Swing, clarinetist Benny
Goodman. Goodman’s 60-year career is highlighted
by sparking the swing era in 1935,
bringing jazz into Carnegie Hall,
and leading the top big band of
the 1930s swing era. Hailed as
“virtuosos on clarinet and
saxophone” by the New
York Times, Peter and
Will Anderson have
performed concerts together
since the age of
Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, the New Orleans Jazz
Festival, and more. You’re basically getting the best of the best
in your backyard, all in one night! Held Saturday, April 15
from 8 to 10 pm, tickets start at $45 per person. Visit www.
Hey America, we love you! We’re sorry we’re such filthy
humans, with all of our single-use plastic waste, excessive
purchases and non-stop driving. But we’re ready
to apologize for it! April is Keep American Beautiful Month
and is a fantastic opportunity to put our muscles where our
mouth is. This April, you’re invited to join thousands of volunteers
of all ages across the country as they show our nation
some love. In celebration of Earth Day month, local activities
of the Great American Cleanup include a massive removal of
litter and illegal dumping from our public spaces - neighborhoods,
roadways, waterways, parks, schools, etc. Additional
community improvement activities may include tree plantings,
recycling activities, painting over of graffiti or run-down
buildings, etc. Demonstrate your individual responsibility by
taking part in this annual effort to make Palm Beach County
neighborhoods and public spaces a safe, more enjoyable place
to live, work and play! There are three opportunities in April
to join your local community members and help clean up our
space so visit www.keeppbcbeautiful.org for more information
and details. It doesn’t take much to participate, but the
reward is well worth the effort and America will love you a
little bit more for it! See you on the beach!
Cheese and bread. Name a better marriage. It’s okay,
there’s time. Not only is a grilled cheese sandwich
probably one of the most underrated sandwiches out
there, it’s also one of the most difficult to make well. The ratio
of bread to cheese, toppings if you need, and cooking low
and slow until the cheese and bread become one. Yeah, it’s
a thing, and needs to be celebrated. April is National Grilled
Cheese Sandwich Month and is a reminder that it’s about time
to get back to your childhood but elevate it past the plasticwrapped
cheese product. Thankfully the good people at
The Office know what it’s all about. Their Huckleberry BBQ
Short Rib Grilled Cheese is made with slow-braised short rib,
smoked gouda, provolone, mozzarella, white cheddar, toasted
thick-cut brioche bread, served with sweet potato fries and
marshmallow dipping sauce for $21 is everything that you’ve
always wanted and more. Not only that, but their cocktails are
on point, and their location offers the best of the best people
watching in town. The Office is located at 201 E. Atlantic Ave.
► Air ( Theaters)
From award-winning director Ben Affleck (who won the Best
Picture Academy Award for Argo in 2012), Air reveals the
unbelievable game-changing partnership between a then-rookie
Michael Jordan and Nike’s fledgling basketball division which
revolutionized the world of sports and contemporary culture with
the Air Jordan brand. This moving story follows the career-defining
gamble of an unconventional team with everything on the line,
the uncompromising vision of a mother who knows the worth of
her son’s immense talent, and the basketball phenom who would
become the greatest of all time. Air (formerly known as Air Jordan)
is directed by acclaimed American actor/filmmaker Ben Affleck,
director of the films Gone Baby Gone, The Town, Argo, and Live by
Night. The cast also includes Affleck as Nike’s Phil Knight, plus
Jason Bateman, Chris Messina, Marlon Wayans, Chris Tucker, Viola
Davis, and Julius Tennon as Deloris and James Jordan, Matthew
Maher, and Tom Papa.
April 7th
► Paint ( Theaters)
The film centers on Carl Nargle (obviously inspired by the iconic
Bob Ross - played by Owen Wilson), who has hosted Vermont’s
number-one painting show for nearly three decades. While
Carl’s signature whisper has long kept viewers from Pittsfield to
St. Albans breathlessly hanging on his every stroke, the station
eventually hires a younger, better painter who steals everything
(and everyone) Carl loves. Paint is both written and directed by
American writer / filmmaker Brit McAdams, director of the doc
film Triviatown previously, plus tons of other TV work, including
directing “Tosh. O”, “Katt Williams: American Hustle,” and the
Comedy Central series “Honesty.”
► The Super Mario Bros. Movie
(IMAX)
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is arriving
in theaters worldwide on April 7th.
Mario travels through an underground
labyrinth with his brother, Luigi, trying
to save a captured princess. This looks
like quite an adventure that might live up
to all the decades of Mario legacy. Mario
creator Shigeru Miyamoto produces
this movie with Illumination’s
CEO Chris Meledandri. The film
features the voices of Chris
Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy
as Princess Peach, Charlie Day
as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser (of
course), Keegan-Michael Key as
Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong,
Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin
Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian
Maniscalco as Spike.
Gabriele Amorth, a priest who worked for the Vatican and performed
numerous exorcisms during his lifetime. He also wrote two memoirs
– An Exorcist Tells His Story and An Exorcist: More Stories – which
detailed his experiences battling Satan and demons. The Pope’s
Exorcist follows Amorth as he investigates a young boy’s terrifying
possession and ends up uncovering a centuries-old conspiracy the
Vatican has desperately tried to keep hidden. The impressive cast
also includes Franco Nero as The Pope (get a look at him in this!!),
Laurel Marsden, River Hawkins, Pablo Raybould, Daniel Zovatto, Alex
Essoe, and Ralph Ineson as the voice of the “Demon.”
► Sweetwater ( Theaters)
Sweetwater tells the true story of an iconic basketball player. This
opens in theaters in April, right after the NCAA finals, and hasn’t
played at any festivals. In the fall of 1950, Nat “Sweetwater” Clifton
forever changed the game of basketball when he became the very
first African American contracted to play in the NBA.
“The game of basketball would never be played
the same.” This is “inspired” by the true story
of Hall of Famer Nat “Sweetwater” Clifton - he
played his first game for the New York Knicks
four days after the debut of Washington
Capitols player Earl Lloyd, the first black
player to appear in an NBA game.
Everett Osborne stars as Nat,
with a cast including Jeremy
Piven, Cary Elwes, Richard
Dreyfuss, Eric Roberts,
Kevin Pollak, Jim
Caviezel, Mike Starr,
and Gary Clark Jr.
Guy Ritchie’s action thriller The Covenant follows US Army Sergeant
John Kinley (Jake Gyllenhaal) and the Afghan interpreter Ahmed
(Dar Salim) during the Afghanistan War. After an ambush, Ahmed
goes to Herculean lengths to save Kinley’s life. When Kinley learns
that Ahmed and his family were not given safe passage to America
as promised, he must repay his debt by returning to retrieve them
before the Taliban hunts them down first. The Covenant is directed
by prolific British filmmaker Guy Ritchie, director of the films Lock
Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, Revolver, RocknRolla, Sherlock
Holmes and the sequel A Game of Shadows, The Man from U.N.C.L.E.,
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Disney’s Aladdin, The Gentlemen.
Jake Gyllenhaal and Dar Salim star as John and Ahmed, Antony
Starr, Alexander Ludwig, Bobby Schofield, Emily Beecham, and
Jonny Lee Miller.
A modern-day Clarice Starling, Eleanor (Shailene Woodley) is a young
police investigator wrestling with the demons of her past when she
is recruited by the FBI’s chief investigator (Ben Mendelsohn) to help
profile and track the work of a disturbed individual. As the police
and FBI launch a nationwide manhunt, they are thwarted at every
turn by the individual’s unprecedented behavior. Given her tortured
psyche, Eleanor may be the only person who can understand the
mind of their assailant and bring him to justice. To Catch a Killer is
My What If Year
by Alisha Fernandez Miranda
fun endearing memoir about a woman who
A pauses her successful career for a year and
explores the “What If” jobs of her dreams.
Alisha Fernandez Miranda has climbed to
the peak of success, yet she isn’t happy or feeling
fulfilled.
So she temporarily steps aside from her
stressful career as CEO of a successful consulting
firm. Her husband and young twins give
their blessings and she leaves home in London
to spend one year exploring the dream jobs of
her youth.
What follows is an insightful and funny
journey.
She’s a gofer for two Broadway productions
(and nearly tramples Stephen Sondheim),
masters a fitness regimen called Voga, handles
multi-million-dollar artwork at Christie’s, and
sets her shirt on fire serving rack of lamb in a
hotel in Scotland.
Alisha’s “What If” year reveals that she can
achieve success by embodying the spirit of the
intern: never stop learning, be flexible and
understand that failure is a prerequisite for
growth.
For anyone who has ever felt stuck in a rut,
My What If Year proves that it’s never too late
to say yes to second chances and explore the
roads untraveled.
summer in Greece for three best friends
A ends in the unthinkable when only two return
home in this new novel from Ella Berman…
Ten years ago, after a sun-soaked summer
spent in Greece, best friends Bess and Joni
were cleared of having any involvement in their
friend Evangeline’s death. But that didn’t stop
the media from ripping apart their teenage
lives like vultures.
While the girls were never convicted, Joni,
ever the opportunist, capitalized on her newfound
infamy to become a motivational speaker.
Bess, on the other hand, resolved to make
her life as small and controlled as possible so
she wouldn’t risk losing everything all over
again. And it almost worked. . .
Except now Joni is tangled up in a crime eerily
similar to that one fateful night in Greece.
And when she asks Bess to come back to LA to
support her, Bess has a decision to make.
Is it finally time to face up to what happened
that night, exposing herself as the young woman
she once was and maybe still is? And what
happens if she doesn’t like what she finds?
The Wisdom of the
Bullfrog
by Admiral William H. McRaven
From the acclaimed, #1 New York Times bestselling
author of Make Your Bed—a short,
inspirational book of advice and leadership lessons
that Admiral McRaven collected over his
four decades as a Navy SEAL.
The title “Bullfrog” is given to the Navy SEAL
who has served the longest on active duty. Admiral
McRaven was honored to receive this
honor in 2011 when he took charge of the United
States Special Operations Command. When
McRaven retired in 2014, he had 37 years as
a Navy SEAL under his belt, leading men and
women at every level of the special operations
community. In the ensuing four years, he
served as Chancellor to the entire University of
Texas System, with its 230,000 students and
100,000 faculty and health care workers.
During those four decades, Admiral McRaven
dealt with every conceivable leadership
challenge, from commanding combat operations—including
the capture of Saddam Hussein,
the rescue of Captain Phillips, and the raid
for Osama bin Laden.
The Wisdom of the Bullfrog draws on these
and countless other experiences from Admiral
McRaven’s incredible life, including crisis situations,
management debates, organizational
transitions, and ethical dilemmas, to provide
readers with the most important leadership
lessons he has learned over the course of his
forty years of service. Each chapter provides a
Make Your Bed-like parable, rich with insights
like those featured in his bestselling memoir,
Sea Stories, about the specific leadership traits
required to be at the top of your game.
Life in Five Senses
by GrETCHEn Rubin
For more than a decade, Gretchen Rubin
had been studying happiness and human
nature. Then, one day, a visit to her eye doctor
made her realize that she’d been overlooking
a key element of happiness: her five senses.
She’d spent so much time stuck in her head
that she’d allowed the vital sensations of life
to slip away, unnoticed. This epiphany lifted
her from a state of foggy preoccupation into a
world rediscovered by seeing, hearing, smelling,
tasting, and touching.
In this journey of self-experimentation, Rubin
explores the mysteries and joys of the five
senses as a path to a happier, more mindful life.
Drawing on cutting-edge science, philosophy,
literature, and her own efforts to practice what
she learns, she investigates the profound power
of tuning in to the physical world.
From the simple pleasures of appreciating
the magic of ketchup and adding favorite
songs to a playlist, to more adventurous efforts
like creating a daily ritual of visiting
the Metropolitan Museum of Art and attending
Flavor University, Rubin shows us how to
experience each day with depth, delight, and
connection. In the rush of daily life, she finds,
our five senses offer us an immediate, sustainable
way to cheer up, calm down, and engage
the world around us—as well as a way to
glimpse the soul and touch the transcendent.
Life in Five Senses is an absorbing, layered
story of discovery filled with profound insights
and practical suggestions about how
to heighten our senses and use our powers of
perception to live fuller, richer lives—and, ultimately,
how to move through the world with
more vitality and love.
The featured Marque of this year’s event was Pre-War Cadillac
to 1942. With classes like American Production, American
Sports and Muscle, Foreign Sports, Foreign Touring, One Offs
and Limited Production, this year’s group of judges certainly had
their hands full trying to choose winners.
After its debut last year, one of my new favorite classes was back
this year: 30 under 30 up to 1999. And what that means is the vehicle
owner must be under 30 years of age and spent less than 30k
on the vehicle. Seven vehicles were entered in this year’s class and
the cars ranged from a 1915 Ford Model T Runabout to a 1990 Ford
Mustang “Fox Body” 2-Door Hatchback. The winner though was a
1987 Bertone X1/9 Two Door Targa. Angela Randazzo 28 years old,
found it hidden in the barter section of Craigslist by the original
owner with just 19k original miles.
The 2023 edition of the Boca Raton Concours attracted thousands
of enthusiasts from all over the world. Since its inception, The Concours
is known as much for the money it has raised for the Boys and
Girls Clubs of Broward County as it is for fine automobiles and motorcycles.
Thanks to its founders Rita and Rick Case and other benefactors,
they have surpassed more than $10 million for that great
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
WE ARE
DELRAY
How easy is it to toss that glass spaghetti
jar in the trash? Or that shampoo
container or yesterday’s junk mail? I
sure have, but skipping the recycling step is
dangerous. That old saying “out of sight, out of
mind” is damaging. And as a beach town, walk
to the beach to be reminded what trash does to
our ocean.
Thank goodness this story has a “greener”
ending! Thank goodness for local leaders who
have jumped into the sustainability fight. Let me
introduce you to a few:
Did you know Delray has a “refillery”
store? A place where you can fill up on liquid
or powdered products using containers you
already have! That includes aluminum, glass,
and even plastic. “Since 2020, we have been
offering Delray Beach residents an alternative
to plastic-packaged home and body products,”
said Lindsay Zukerberg, owner of Zuke’s
by Lynn Van Lenten
Yo u r m o n t h l y f e a t u r e o f a l l t h i n g s D e l r ay f r o m
Welcome back to our monthly column titled We Are Delray.
Let’s talk about sustainability this month. You know, that
“green word,” that “zero-waste” mindset we often forget.
Lindsay Zukerberg, Zuke’s Refillery
Refillery. “We’re all about people and the planet,
so not only are our products sustainable, but
they’re ethically made! We donate 10% of
refills to local Delray organizations, host beach
cleanups, and plan community markets to grow
our eco-community. Delray is our home, and we
are grateful to be its neighborhood plastic-free
shop and refillery!”
Community Greening planting a
greener tree canopy in Delray
Another team improving Delray is
Community Greening. Founded in 2016, Mark
and Matt had a dream of a greener tree canopy
over Delray Beach. Seven years later, our parks,
schools, and residential neighborhoods have
thousands of trees planted and growing. “We
are happy to report that we are finishing up
year two of a 5-year campaign to plant 10,000
trees in Delray Beach by 2025,” said Matt
Cassini, co-founder of Community Greening.
“Take a walk in Barwick Park and enjoy
hundreds of slash pines planted by volunteers,
or visit Catherine Strong Park and pick some
fruit this summer in its Urban Orchard. These
new trees will make Delray Beach a better
place to live for years to come.”
t h e
Stephen Smith & Family
at One World Zero WaSTE
Let’s not forget our food source. Stephen
Smith moved his family to Delray Beach to open
One World Zero Waste organic food store. You
are welcome to order online in bulk or shop in
person. Bring your own containers and “weigh
and pay” for sustainably sourced, vegan, never
tested on animals, natural products. “Delray
Beach is HERE and ready for local and organic
bulk food, fruits and vegetables, re-usable/
refillable zero waste,” said Stephen Smith, One
World Zero Waste owner. “Our aim is to eliminate
waste of all kinds, making us a happier and
healthier community however we can. Please
join us in raising consciousness! NAMASTE.”
Feeling “greener” after reading this? I sure
do! Sustainability heroes abound in our town.
Stop in, meet them, learn their stories, and join
the fight for a better future. Pick up a free tree
from Mark and Matt and plant it in your garden,
wash that empty shampoo bottle, and refill it
at Zuke’s or shop for some sustainably sourced
produce from Stephen. Join us as we make a
change in the right direction.
health & beauty | pain relief
By Dr. Safranski
Spring is in the Air!
It’s that time of year again when flowers
bloom, and the grass gets greener (because
we live in Florida, and it’s green year-round).
52 | april 2023 | www.AtlanticAveMagazine.com
Some people do spring cleaning, clean out their closets, and
clean out their houses from top to bottom. They get a fresh
lease on life. They’re swapping out the winter clothes for summer
clothes getting ready to soak up the sunshine. The beautiful
part about living in South Florida is the sunshine and the beaches;
it’s part of the allure that is living close to the equator in paradise.
That’s all fine and dandy, but have you ever considered how much
better these views would be and how much more refreshed you
would be if you lived in a wellness state of mind? What do I mean
by a “wellness state of mind?” Well, the majority of people down
here practice the mindset of waiting until something breaks to fix
it. Whether that is your vehicle, your air conditioning in your home,
or your body, these require regular maintenance so catastrophe
can be avoided.
So why do we wait until it breaks? I believe it’s because most people
don’t think ahead. They only go to the chiropractor when their back
hurts or they have headaches. They only go to the doctor when sick or
feel something coming on. They want the quick fix, so they can go back
to living. Most people don’t even go to a nutritionist or stick to a diet
plan for the duration intended. They lack self-discipline and the drive
to actually make changes. They may also lack the ability to ask questions
out of fear of rejection. Whatever the case, I have said it before
and will say again, “complacency is the killer of all dreams.” Much like
anything new, the front end of the change is where a lot of time and energy
goes into mapping out and planning the
changes. If you’re shy, break out of your comfort
zone, and ask questions!
We are human, but we are all very much
made up of complex systems like your vehicle
fuel system, oil system, cooling system,
air conditioning system, and the electronic
system that controls everything. If we don’t
maintain the systems, they will eventually fail,
and when they fail, it can be catastrophic. So
living in a “wellness state of mind” means that
we maintain our bodies and pay attention to
our injuries from the past to make sure that
they don’t rear their ugly heads in the future.
We can accomplish that by doing the work
prescribed to us by the professionals to maintain
the changes that were made or need to
be made. Whether that is a better diet, better
exercise, stretching, running weight, lifting,
or adding routines to your workout to avoid
injuring a shoulder. Maybe your chiropractor recommends you visit
once a week for 8 weeks to get back on track? Perhaps that’s Physical
Therapy twice a week for a month. Those are great recommendations,
but at the end of the day, you are the person who lives inside your
body. You are the only one who knows what makes you feel well.
My profession is very physical so I need to ensure that I maintain
myself. I have a shoulder injury, so I constantly pay attention to my
shoulder, my workouts, and my rehab. Still, getting adjusted twice a
week makes me feel in tip-top shape. I do bi-monthly decompression
sessions on both my neck and my low back. I use shockwave therapy
regularly to keep my shoulder from developing scar tissue and keep
the biomechanics moving. All of these little additions that we add to
our life shouldn’t be looked at as burdens; they should be looked at as
the work that needs to be done every single day so we can live the fullest
life, one that when we’re cleaning out the closets or going to the
beach, put our toes in the sand, and listen to the waves crash on the
shore, we can enjoy it to the fullest because we are doing everything
we can to make sure that we are well.
Setting Priorities
Lead to Positive Change!
We’ve all heard the saying, “To change your life, you
need to change your priorities” and that couldn’t be
truer when we’re talking about transforming your body.
Your priorities guide your attention and energy as to what
you’ll accomplish first. If you’re looking to achieve the
healthiest version of yourself, your most important goals
should become your top priorities.
Many people want to change, but they miss the mark because
they are making everything else a priority except for themselves!
So here are some ideas on how to apply these principles to making
lifestyle changes that will last and lead you to be the best version
of yourself!
Make the time to set your priorities, it won’t happen automatically.
Schedule your workout a week or even weeks in advance!
1
Write it down, book it out, pencil it in!
Determine what matters most to you. If everything’s a priority,
2 then nothing’s a priority. Read that again!
Have a ‘Why” that goes deeper than looking good in a bikini.
3 Superficial goals don’t usually stand the test of time.
Think beyond today. Ensure that your priorities withstand the
4 test of time and are not too unrealistic.
Get ready to sacrifice. Choices have consequences. Saying “no”
5 to one thing allows you to say “yes” to another. Sacrifice is inevitable
but will pay off in the long run.
Learn to say NO! When you overcommit your time or spread
6 your resources too thin, you fail to dedicate the attention that
your priorities deserve. Ain’t this the truth!
Maintain balance. Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of
7 balance. While this may sound simple, it’s not easy. Try your
best to find a good balance that works for you…otherwise it could
lead to burnout.
Make it a family affair! Discuss your goals with your loved ones.
8 If priorities are aligned, you’ll have much easier time accomplishing
your goals!
Have someone to keep you accountable. This will help keep you
9 honest and your fitness priorities at the top of your list.
10
Set little rewards along the
way. It’s a great incentive
to keep moving forward
when the going gets tough. Rewards
can be anything from a
new pair of workout pants or
something along the lines of
a massage. Ahh!
Interviewed and written by Emily Peters
What does a devout faith in
Christianity have to do with success
in baseball? According to Adrián
Sanchez... everything.
Sitting across from one of the infielders for the Washington
Nationals, I watch as Adrián’s demeanor shifts from one of
complete stoicism to relaxing with pure delight the second we
begin talking about his life’s passion. Born in Maracaibo,
Venezuela, one of Sanchez’s
earliest memories is playing
baseball with his father.
“I started playing
ball with my dad
when I was around
four years old. We
lived in a little town
that had a small piece
of field to practice on,
and went there together
almost every day. At just
nine years old, everyone
around me knew I was
going to play baseball for life,
as I represented my country
in all Latin-American events.
At thirteen, my parents started
helping me focus on making the
big leagues, finding a trainer who I
practiced with every morning. I would
run through my drills and learn how
to work out and eat properly, all before
school started.”
In 2007, an American baseball scout flew to
Venezuela for the sole purpose of checking out a
few possible new recruits, and stayed in a hotel near
where Sanchez lived. At dinner in the hotel’s restaurant,
fate stepped in when the scout struck up a friendly conversation with
his server, who just so happened to be someone the Sanchez family
knew well. Adrián was sixteen, and about to have his life altered.
“The waiter was my dad’s good friend, and said ‘hey I have someone
who is amazing and you have to see... his name is Adrián and the kid
can really play.’ The next day I was signed.”
Loyal to the Washington Nationals organization for his entire career
thus far, Sanchez has also ventured back to Latin America, playing
Winter Ball during the offseason here.
“I play all year round which means there’s not much downtime.
I never stop training so I can be ready for every opportunity that
comes my way.”
Sanchez is multi-talented, taking on the positions of Pinch Hitter,
Second Baseman, and Third Baseman. In 2018 he additionally filled in
as shortstop, and says he can occupy any infield spot without feeling
uncomfortable, despite having a clear favorite. In June 2019 Sanchez
was named the Eastern League Player of the Month. He batted .400
(32-for-80) with five doubles, four home runs, 12 RBI’s, 14 runs
scored, three stolen bases, a .429 on-base percentage, and a .613
slugging percentage in 20 games during the month.
“Second base is where I like to be the most, although I can play
anywhere. I tried out my skills for the entire field, showing the
managers what I can do,
simply because I love the
game and want to learn
everything I can about it.”
Sanchez permanently
relocated to Florida in
2019, which proved to be
a monumental year for the
athlete. It was this year
that The Nationals began
their regular season at
home against the New
York Mets and ended as
World Series champions.
After a duration of seven
games, the Nationals
edged out the Houston
Astros 4-3, cementing
the franchise’s first series
win and garnering Sanchez
a highly coveted MLB
Championship Ring.
“It was amazing. That’s the
end goal… everyone wants
that ring. The feeling of being
in the stadium during Game
7 of the World Series with
a full house in attendance,
is indescribable. It meant so
much to achieve that victory for
me and my family, playing a sport
that has been with me from childhood.”
Adrián has had a regimented mindset since the instant he decided
baseball was to take center stage in his life, and a relationship with
God has further solidified what his reality is all about.
“The sport is a discipline. As a professional, you have to think as a
professional in everything you do. You can be signed and brought up
to play at any point of the season, so you have to be physically and
mentally ready for that chance. I always take everything I do seriously,
but upon turning my life over to Jesus and my faith, I saw a major
positive change. My religion has truly catapulted me where I wanted
to go. My personal as well as working life soared, and I owe it all to my
belief in God. I’m married, have three beautiful children, and spend a
lot of time on the road... but through my trust in a higher power, I have
time for everything.”
Injuries are a risk in any sport, and baseball is no different. An
official game ball consists of a rubber cork center wrapped with
yarn and encased in white natural horse or cowhide, or a synthetic
composite leather. Wearing barely any protective gear, and with every
pitch sending the ball careening though the air at an average speed of
100 miles per hour, the risk of getting seriously wounded is always
present. Sanchez knows this all too well. In 2018 he experienced what
it was like to be caught in the line of fire.
“I was up to hit and my manager gave me the sign for a bunt because
there was a guy on third. The pitch was 101 mph, and the ball struck
me in the chest. I couldn’t breathe for a good ten seconds and was
down for about five minutes. They took me away in an ambulance
to the hospital where they found I had suffered a lung contusion, but
luckily I was alright and was back playing four days later.”
Communication with fellow players is key when participating in any
team sport, and Sanchez says that his teammates have become more
like family than friends.
“We learn to communicate very well with each other, even with
just a look. Baseball is a group effort, giving you the chance to create
great relationships all around. Even in the dugout, we have a moment
to really discuss everything about the game and help one another.
We go over how each of us look on the field that day, and how we can
improve our next hit. Many of my fellow players and I maintain a close
friendship off the field.”
Adrián has entertained baseball fans across the globe, but one of his
favorite venues to play is right here in the United States.
“One of the most memorable places I have been to was Arizona. I
loved the stadium, and the weather is so nice. I have played all over
the world, but Japan is one country I have not visited yet that I would
really like to see and experience.”
Opening day of the 2023 baseball season is March 30th, and Adrián
is presently a free agent.
“I know this isn’t forever, and in the future it’s my dream to take
everything I have learned and teach the upcoming hopefuls. When
I was very young, there wasn’t anyone to show me the proper
techniques. Now that I have had the chance to learn and play
professionally, I would love to be that person for some kid out there
wanting to improve their game.”
Naturally everything in life is constantly changing, and Major League
Baseball is not excluded. In June 2022, a new rule was created that
stated a team could not carry more than thirteen pitchers, and starting
this year there are more modifications set to be put in place for this
extraordinary pastime - such as implementing a pitch time clock and
larger bases. Adrián isn’t sure where the game or his own journey will
lead him, but one thing is certain... God is coming with him.
Gelato & Co.
Hitting the Sweet Spot with
Homemade Italian Gelato
By diane feen | photos by melissa korman
Do you want to experience
the flavors and sweetness
of Italy with the laid-back
vibe of Delray Beach?
58 | april 2023 | www.AtlanticAveMagazine.com
Ponder no more. Gelato & Co. has opened a store on the Avenue
that introduces Americans to what Italians have known
for years – that homemade Italian Gelato is creamy, flavorful
and yummy.
And at times like this, having a happy place to share good flavors
and friendship is paramount.
Zoltan Fonai knows this all too well. The Hungarian native comes
to Gelato & Co. every day to savor the taste of coconut gelato and
caffé latte. “I love this place. The gelato here is different than I have
ever tasted. It’s creamy, has real flavors and is so good.”
The reason for Fonai’s affection for Gelato & Co. is due to their meticulous
attention to detail and perfection. The gelato is made fresh
daily in their shop and is made with Italian equipment and machines.
Unlike American ice cream and other gelato products – that have an
unlimited shelf life – Gelato & Co. is made the day you eat it.
You will know that the minute you taste this luscious creamy delightful
dessert. There are 22 flavors, and you can have your gelato on
a stick with chocolate coating or in a cup in the flavor of your choice.
Kailey and Conrad from Indiana were strolling down the Avenue
one day when they came across Gelato & Co. Sitting at one of their
outdoor tables with the signature blue and white striped awnings,
the couple were clearly smitten with their coconut and chocolate
gelato. “This is our first time here and we can’t wait to come back.”
The reason people are so wowed when they try this homemade
gelato is that they have never really had authentic Italian gelato
before. Unlike the watery gelato you get at street fairs or kiosks,
Gelato & Co. imports the highest quality ingredients and stays true
to the original recipes from Italy.
“At Gelato & Co. we don’t use additives, sugar flavorings, GMOs
or preservatives. We use real pistachio, almonds and hazelnuts
sourced from local farms with no preservatives or additives,” said
Gelato & Co. owner Giancarlo.
Giancarlo, who is also imported from Italy, is the perfect host to
this discerning friendly upbeat dessert emporium. Giancarlo was
born in Milan and attended college in West Palm Beach. He fell in
love with the US and wanted to bring a little sweetness from his
home country to the US.
“When Americans taste real gelato from Italy they fall in love
with it. I had a customer tell me, ‘I went to Italy, and oh my gosh, we
had gelato for breakfast, lunch and dinner.’”
It’s easy to see why. The flavors are so subtle and sweet yet they
lack the heavy preservative laden after-taste that other gelato or ice
cream often has.
That is why Gelato & Co. has such a big following. Moms come in
with their little ones, and when they leave everyone has a smile on
their face and a little gelato on their torso. If you want a real treat,
try their Napoleons, ricotta cheesecake with Italian cherry topping,
and other decadently delicious desserts.
Made with fresh cream, thin pastry and wickedly wonderful frosting,
the Napoleon will definitely change your mood and your mindset.
If you are in doubt, just ask their customers.
“This is the best gelato ON EARTH! The taste and texture is incredible.
The ambience is trendy and modern; and to top It off they
provide outstanding customer service.”
Others agree.
“Gelato & Co. is a sweet gem of a place in Delray Beach. Their authentic
desserts bring me back to my time in Italy gorging on gelato
and pastries. The service is fantastic and the ambiance is great.”
If you have dietary concerns Gelato & Co. has your back. They offer
products perfect for vegans and those with food allergies. Some
of their gelato is dairy-free and others are gluten-free. The most
important thing to note is that their products are made fresh every
day without artificial preservatives or flavorings.
The interior space is clean, upbeat and has an authentic Italian
flair. Though there are other gelato stores (and ice cream shops)
nearby, Gelato & Co. is always brimming with people. Some come to
take in the view of the Avenue while sitting under a table outside,
while others prefer the homey Italian countryside feel of the indoors.
Gelato & Co. not only has authentic Italian hand-crafted gelato
and Italian pastries, but you can custom order cakes or get refreshing
coffee drinks and paninis.
“Our Italian gelato follows the tradition of the masters with quality
that surprises even true Italians. The atmosphere is refreshing and
soothing. Our products will sweeten up your day and delight your
senses. We guarantee you’ll love our stracciatella gelato – it’s heavenly.
Come to Gelato & Co. – it’s everyone’s happy place!
The Delray Beach Open (https://yellowtennisball.com/) has outdone
itself yet again, celebrating its 31st year and 25th in Delray
Beach with record crowds, sold out events and the first Top 10
winner in the tournament’s history! The 10-day event, which was held
Feb. 10-19, 2023 at the Delray Beach Stadium & Tennis Center on Atlantic
Avenue in downtown Delray Beach, Florida, always offers spectacular
tennis. What makes the tourney extra special is its fabulous
parties, special recognition days, clinics, and exclusive events all week
long. The world’s only combined ATP Champions Tour Legends and
ATP 250 Tour once again proved itself as the place to be and be seen.
The total attendance for the Delray Beach Open this year was
over 63,000, with a crowd comprised of local residents and visitors
from across the globe, all enjoying the tennis takeover of our
“Village By the Sea.” The hospitality events were sold out, as were
Veranda and Best Seats courtside for the final rounds. Tournament
organizers rushed to open the General Admission Grandstands to
accommodate additional fans.
Taylor Fritz, the current No. 5 player in the world, became the
Delray Open’s first Top 10 champion, defeating the No. 4 seed and
No. 33 in the world, Miomir Kecmanovic, in three sets, 6-0, 5-7, 6-2,
efore a crowd of over 5,200 riveted fans. This was Fritz’s fifth ATP
title but first as a top seed, becoming only the third top seed in Delray
Beach Open tournament history to win the title. Interestingly, the
three times the singles top seed has won, the doubles top seed has
also won and 2023 was no exception. Top seeds and South Florida
residents Marcelo Arevalo and Jean-Julien Rojer defended their 2022
title, becoming champions for the second year in a row, defeating
Rinky Hijikata and Reese Stalder 6-3, 6-4.
Every year, the Delray Beach Open gives back to the community,
and this year’s tournament hosted clinics for Love Serving Autism,
USTA Diversity & Inclusion and ACEing Autism. Opening weekend
saw the return of USTA Florida Kids Day, welcoming over 100 kids,
and featured a surprise visit from Stanley, the Florida Panthers mascot,
who showed off his tennis skills. In partnership with the Delray
Beach Youth Tennis Foundation (Delray Tennis Foundation) and
USTA Florida, the Delray Beach Open also hosted a free tennis clinic
that weekend, coached by USPTA instructor and Director of the Delray
Tennis Foundation, Stefan Konowalskyj.
The Delray Beach Open’s sold-out special events presented attendees
with an array of entertainment options off the court. Starting
with the tournament’s VIP Reception offering the Delray Beach
Open’s partners and VIPs tasty treats by VIP Caterers and spirits
from Stoli Vodka, Raeburn Winery and Dano’s Tequila. Ladies Day
Luncheons presented by Lilly Pulitzer and sponsored by Raeburn
Winery, Stoli Vodka, and the Bloody Mary Experience, included fashion
shows and shopping and welcomed Lilly Pulitzer’s EVP of Design
& Product Development, Mira Fain. The 16th Annual Chamber
Bash & Box Series Holders’ Reception, presented by Baptist Health
and sponsored by BlueIvy Communications and Carlton Fields,
welcomed members of Delray Beach and Boca Raton Chambers of
Commerce and the tournament’s series box holders to an evening
featuring culinary delights provided by some of the best restaurants
in town, including Ziree Thai & Sushi, Harvest Seasonal Wine Bar,
Windy City Pizza, PDQ, Guaca Go, and Proper Ice Cream, and spirits
by Raeburn Winery and Dano’s Tequila.
The tournament’s premiere event, Game, Set, Pour – billed as
the ‘Ultimate Pairing event’ – served up an array of sampling from
some of the best local restaurants and craft breweries in the area.
The event, which benefitted local non-profit organization Kula Cares,
was once again sold out to over 380 guests. With the popularity of
Game, Set, Pour, the tournament added the inaugural “Tacos, Tequila
and Tennis” event, presented by Dano’s Tequila, which benefitted the
non-profit organization Love Serving Autism. Tacos, Tequilas and
Tennis welcomed over 280 guests and offered samples of some of
the best tacos in Palm Beach County in addition to tequila cocktails
provided by Dano’s Tequila.
Known for its impressive array of food and beverage options, the
Delray Beach Open’s food court and food carts featured the Raeburn
Winery Wine and Prosecco Lounge, VIP Clubhouse Lounge, Subculture
Coffee Lounge, brick oven pizza from That’s Amore!, Mark’s Bistro,
Guaca Go, Proper Ice Cream, Dano’s Tequila Cantina and the Stoli
Main Bar, home of the tournament’s official cocktail, the Stoli Slice.
In addition to the tennis and entertainment, the Delray Open is always
full of surprises – like last year’s on-court marriage proposal
(she said “yes”!), and an appearance by the iconic Williams sisters,
Venus and Serena – and this year’s biggest involved a local-turnedlegend,
Palm Beach real estate investor Matija Pecotić. On Valentine’s
Day, Pecotić was at the Tennis Center picking up his racket from a
stringer when he learned he had the opportunity to qualify as an alternate
in the tournament. What happened next was straight out of
a Hollywood movie. Not only did he qualify, but he went on to win
his first-ever ATP match in three sets against Jack Sock, a former top
ten player. No news yet on what’s ahead for Pecotić, but no matter
his tennis future turns out to be, it’s the kind of story that makes the
Delray Beach Open so exciting.
“The tournament surpassed even our expectations this year. The
tennis was outstanding, and every event was sold out,” said Adam
Baron, Executive Director of the Delray Beach Open. “From the VIP
Reception to Game, Set, Pour, every night was a party that just kept
picking up steam. The enthusiasm of everyone in the crowd was contagious.
We broke a lot of our own sales records again this year and
are already planning for the next tournament. Every year we get bigger
and better and can’t wait for 2024!”
Even as the 2023 Delray Beach Open came to a close, the team at the
tournament began discussing going even bigger next year, so book early
for the 2024 event, returning February 9-18. Stay tuned to Yellow-
Ria Ray
Healer, Artist, and Teacher
By Diane Feen
Art can help you heal. If you
don’t believe it, then you
probably haven’t met Ria Ray.
The spiritual healer and artist had to overcome an incomprehensible
loss – one that was devastating – but it set the stage for
Ray’s journey toward healing.
“I worked really hard to find freedom and creativity from my tragedy.
At the same time, I uncovered something magical. I felt compelled
to help myself and then give back.”
Ray found her ability to help others was spontaneous, much like that
of her artwork. People began showing up in her life that needed help.
“I also started having intuition about people and was able to help
them overcome obstacles and live a more meaningful life.”
This realization led Ray to become a spiritual healer. Her thriving
practice has helped many people live a more positive life filled with
limitless possibilities.
It also set the stage for her artwork, that is a form of healing for her
clients and others.
“My art is a doorway into my spiritual practice and my spiritual
journey is a doorway into my art.
Not only does she have spiritual wellness retreats and private healing
sessions, but her artwork has spiritual powers that channel goodness
into owners’ lives.
64 | april 2023 | www.AtlanticAveMagazine.com
Collectors feel Ray’s healing powers embedded within the artwork.
It empowers them to find their way toward inner peace and joy. Others
feel buying her artwork is like having a piece of Ray’s divine spirit.
One that will open doors for them and let in the light, whatever form
that takes.
For actress Heather Graham, Ray’s mixed media paintings are a
means for aspiration and positivity. When Graham told Architectural
Digest about her home she described it this way. “I have art from a
healer named Ria Ray, who does these great inspirational messages
on large canvases. I tell her what I want to get—like love or to direct a
movie—and she writes inspiring messages and puts them all over my
house. They’re fun and have positive energy.”
Who doesn’t want to tap into their higher power?
Not many.
But, for most people it’s not that easy. For Ray it’s a part of her DNA
that she willingly shares with others through her art. “People want to
wrap themselves up in my art – It’s as if you were wearing a shawl
with good energy in it. Art is destined to help you heal, It’s a part of
my healing gift.”
Her artistic gift is one of color, texture and totality. Large canvases
are each unique (like children) and make a statement often seen by
the viewer in multiple layers. Like life itself from an aerial perspective,
Ray’s artwork often has many doorways, wings and passageways.
“My spiritual abstracts are highly textural and have spiritual messages.
They speak to people by way of uplifting sayings, sacred words,
poetry and calming ethereal scenes.”
Ray’s use of doorways is a metaphor for her life experiences and for
her response to them. “My 25 years as a healer has been infused into
my artwork, and is then transferred to the people who buy it. The art
is sacred to collectors because it becomes a healing vehicle for them. It
provides them with a sense of serenity and security,” said the mother
of two incredible children.
Ray will often refer to loss as a way to change; one that is not
asked for but is demanded, due to a change in life circumstances.
“You can either stay stuck inside the threshold or have the courage
to walk through the next doorway. In my life I had to become committed
to getting better after such a devastating loss. I did everything
to heal myself.”
COPYRIGHTED

Perhaps that is a universal theme – that of loss and gain and
then loss again. This is indeed one of Ray’s most relevant theories
and life experiences. And, in today’s world, loss has become a
natural sub-particle of existence, something we fight against, yet
find in the mere act of living.
That was the reason for her spiritual quest, and the reason
why she paints so beautifully and painstakingly. It was her refuge
from the pain of loss that became her opening for transformation.
“Life is uncertain and the more we get comfortable being safe
in uncertainty, the more we can be fully alive and accepting of
our destiny.”
It is comfort that Ray’s artwork provides and it is comfort that
most people seek. Ray’s clients (and collectors) find healing and
harmony within the platitude of colors and textures that signify
Ray’s art.
Clients who were experiencing emotional negativity or fear
felt better after hanging Ray’s paintings. Her art also brings about
a sense of peace and protection. Clients revel in this serenity and
sacredness, and often times collect more than one.
Ray not only creates wonderful healing art projects, but her
largest and most ambitious creation is her children. Her daughter
Lia is currently working with her mom to create a mother-daughter
collection of artwork that will meld the greatness of creation
with the sanctity of spirituality.
Ray does not solicit others to join in the realm of her essence;
instead they find their way into her life by happenstance, word of
mouth or just kismet.
Her clients purchase (and collect) her artwork because they
feel they’re carrying forward a bit of Ray’s healing power. And it
is that sacred power that transforms lives to be more peaceful,
balanced and inspirational.
“I help people tap into powerful realizations that rise to the
surface of their consciousness. These realizations hold the power
to transform their lives.”
Li Jingliang known as the (The Leech) competes in the UFC.
Li knows that Dr. Tony has extensive training in acupuncture
and the healing arts. That is why he put his faith – and
healing needs – in the hands of Dr. Tony Willcox.
Dr Tony, Thank you for the Acupuncture! - Li Jingliang
“As an Elite Athlete you must be at the top of your game,
preparing for battle in the world of Ultimate Fighting you
must be using the best therapies available. Born and raised
in Xinjiang, China I have used Acupuncture for many years, and my
first-hand experience is that Dr. Tony is a Master of Acupuncture.”
Indeed, Li Jingliang is correct in that assumption.
Dr. Tony Willcox is well known for his skill in acupuncture.
If you ask his patients how they feel when they leave his tranquil
healing Mecca in Delray Beach, they all say the same thing.
“Dr Tony is nothing short of a miracle worker. I’ve been seeing
him for the past few years. Herniated discs, sciatica, and a generally
painful back. One time I went, I had to be carried in. After one session,
I walked out a new man,” said Abe.
These endorsements – and the expertise and soulful countenance
of Dr. Tony – have garnered him clients that range from celebrities
to star athletes and everyone in between.
Dr. Tony has a Double Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese
Herbal Medicine, a Clinical Doctorate in the US, and a PhD in Acupuncture
from China.
He has spent much of his life in search of the most up to date
modalities to change lives and create a calm respite for patients to
restore health and promote healing.
And he has done just that.
Dr. Tony has created a niche of combining state-of-the-art technology
in combination with the traditional healing methods of acupuncture.
The latest tools for healing and wellbeing at Acupuncture Zen is
the K Laser Speciale” an Italian made 100-watt class 4 laser, (most
therapeutic lasers are 15 or 20 watts).
“The Speciale’ is the most powerful therapeutic laser on the
planet! It is the first therapeutic laser that is using (Ai) Artificial
Intelligence to determine skin penetration with a built-in skin spectrometer.
This gives each patient a unique and optimized treatment
designed specifically for their skin type, musculature and even water
metabolism at time of treatment,” said Dr. Tony.
Light is measured in nanometers (nm) and the broad range
of frequencies used by the K Laser Speciale’ are 660nm, 800nm,
905nm, 970nm and 1064nm. Each wavelength has unique biophysical
characteristics with varying depths of penetration that can
reduce pain and inflammation, increase range of motion, and can
improve quality of life.
K laser increases circulation, nutrients, and oxygen to the damaged
or injured area of the body providing rapid treatment times.
Reducing inflammation, pain, muscle stiffness, tightness and accelerating
tissue regeneration are all done while enhancing healing
with improved mitochondrial health.
K Laser Therapy bio-stimulates tissue repair, and has been used
in Europe since the 1970’s. It has been cleared by the FDA for therapeutic
treatment since 2002 in the USA.
NovoTHOR photobiomodulation is another state-of-the-art light
table that is so effective it is used by US Special Forces, notable
athletes, and celebrities. This 15-minute treatment is relaxing yet
energizing. The science of this technology - through clinical studies
- determines that this therapy reduces pain and inflammation,
reducing oxidative stress, and improves energy levels. This is an
optimal way to improve and enhance one’s health.
Dr. Tony is one of the few doctors who uses these therapeutic
reparative treatments. His patients are eternally grateful.
“Dr. Tony is a true healer. I feel AMAZING after my acupuncture and
NovoTHOR sessions! The space is immaculate, and the atmosphere
has a reverence for healing I feel when I walk in the door. An appointment
at Acupuncture Zen is a highlight of my day,” said Alec Walczak.
These therapies are not only for professional athletes but also
local tennis players, pickle ball players and golfers that are often
in need of treatment due to conditions of pain and inflammation.
Whether it’s acupuncture, K Laser, NovoTHOR, cupping, crystal
light therapy, Chinese herbal medicine or some of the best CBD pain
relieving topicals, Dr. Tony has something for everyone.
Acupuncture Zen treats a variety of other conditions for patients
- inflammation, wound healing, tendonitis from golf and tennis elbow,
neck, back, hip and knee pain, bursitis, and arthritis.
Demetrios can attest to that. His recent Yelp review says it all.
“I went to Dr. Tony and did cupping under a warm light that
moved the qi around. I really needed this after being on the road
and closing deals for clients.”
Demetrios also experienced the NovoTHOR bed. This technology reduces
inflammation and supports healing. The results were outstanding.
“Overall, this is the single top experience I have ever had, and I’m
a Chinatown acupuncturist regular. I recommend coming to Acupuncture
Zen first and getting healed the right way.”
Feel free to call the office or stop in to have a look at the endorsements
on the walls or take in the healing vibe of this wonderful space.
Moroco Orthodontics
Celebrating 25 Years of
Orthodontics in Delray Beach!
By diane feen
A lot has happened in the 30
years Dr. Jacqueline Moroco has
been practicing orthodontics.
In 1998 she opened a private practice in Delray Beach. At that time the
majority of her patients were children and teens.
“With the introduction of new technologies such as clear braces,
clear aligners and braces behind the teeth, adults are more willing to get the
treatment they need.”
Moroco Orthodontics is now treating an equal number of children and
adults. They range in age from 6 years old to 89, said Dr. Moroco, who
moved to Delray Beach after completing her residency in Orthodontics and
M.S. in Oral Biology at Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas.
While life – and orthodontics – have changed drastically since Dr. Moroco
came to Delray Beach, some things never change.
In a good way.
“We always strive to offer the highest level of orthodontic care, combined
with a great patient experience. Our goal is to provide excellence in service
and an unexpected positive patient experience.”
Dr. Moroco is a woman of her word. Patients rave about her expertise as
an orthodontist and commitment to each patient’s individual needs.
68 | april 2023 | www.AtlanticAveMagazine.com
And, with over 550 five-star Google reviews it is fair to say that Dr.
Moroco leads a team intent on excellence of patient care and experience.
“I had an extremely complex case and am so grateful for Dr. Moroco.
She took my case (when others denied it) and went above and beyond.
She has been so helpful communicating each step, and continuously
analyzing and adjusting my treatment plan. Her team is extremely
friendly and professional, and the facility is state-of-the-art. I couldn’t
be happier with my treatment and results. Thank you Dr. Moroco, Dr.
Simon and the team for giving me back my smile!” said Vasilios.
If the name Dr. David Simon doesn’t sound familiar, it’s because he is
a relative newcomer to the team. In March 2022 he became a full-time
(and valued) member of the team, after working at Moroco Orthodontics
part-time since November 2020.
“I started my own practice from scratch in Wellington in 2000. After
selling it in 2020, I decided to join Dr. Moroco. She has an amazing reputation
for high quality orthodontic treatment and a fantastic patient
experience. It seemed like a perfect match.”
It was just that.
“I visited Moroco Orthodontics because my 7-year-old has an extra
tooth and needs a dentist, orthodontist, and oral surgeon to work
together for the surgery and treatment to follow up. It’s stressful and
scary to have to deal with all of it. After talking to six different orthodontists,
Dr. Simon and the whole Moroco team met and exceeded all
my expectations,” said Laura.
Dr. Simon was raised in Palm Beach County and made the decision
(like Dr. Moroco) to choose the path of orthodontics at an early age. After
seeing tennis legend Ivan Lendl say he didn’t want to smile because
of his teeth, David Simon’s fate was sealed.
“When I heard Ivan Lendl couldn’t smile because of his teeth I decided
that everyone deserves to smile,” said the Summa Cum Laude graduate
of Tufts University Orthodontic and Dental programs.
Now, together, Dr. Moroco and Dr. Simon collaborate on patient cases.
Their combined 50 years of experience in patient care reinforces the
patient treatment plans. In addition, they added new technology to assist
them in keeping a close eye on patient treatment progress remotely.
“If we’ve learned anything in our years of practice (especially during
the COVID crisis) we’ve learned that people are busy with life and want
to decrease overall treatment times and attend appointments less often.
This is one of the many reasons we introduced Dental Monitoring
to our patients of all ages.”
Dental Monitoring gives patients the ability to send detailed photos
and video of their treatment progress using an app on their cell phone.
These photos are then sent to Moroco Orthodontics for evaluation.
“Dental Monitoring has been an excellent way for Dr. Simon and
COPYRIGHTED

I to keep a closer eye on patients, while reducing the time they need
to come to the office. We actually see and communicate with patients
more often via the app, but less often in person. It has decreased their
visits by eliminating unnecessary appointments, but it upgrades their
overall care. We have every patient on it no matter what their age or
treatment plan,” said Dr. Moroco.
This technology has allowed Moroco Orthodontics to have a more
global presence. As a matter of fact, they now have patients as far away
as Peru, Spain, Israel and other locales in the US.
“In the past it was more difficult to treat people, who lived for an
extended period of time, outside South Florida. They would periodically
need to fly back for an appointment. Now we can monitor a patient’s
treatment from anywhere in the world. We can also make their
appointments when they are back in the area.”
New talent, new technology and a solid team that share Dr. Moroco’s
vision for patient care and patient experience is what drives her into
the future. “I can’t see us slowing down anytime soon. We just love what
we do! And we love learning better ways to do it!”
And she’s not slowing down on her commitment to the community
either. Dr. Moroco and Moroco Orthodontics continue to support many
schools and local organizations such as Junior League of Boca Raton,
Impact 100, Delray Beach Public Library, The Miracle League of Palm
Beach County, Bethesda Hospital Foundation, and others.
When she’s not working with her team or supporting the community,
you can find Dr. Moroco travelling with her husband, Jack Maloney (owner
of Firstlantic Healthcare in Delray Beach). The two celebrate life on a
daily basis, but they are also celebrating their 25th Anniversary!
Delray Beach could not be happier to celebrate 25 years of Moroco
Orthodontics!
including eyelid lifts, facelifts, neck lifts, brow lifts, body contouring,
adore her, and her techniques for skin cancer surgery and cosmetic
Beach specializes in skin cancer diagnosis and treatment as well
as comprehensive medical and aesthetic Dermatology, allowing

Facial with Paula Parra, CME
patients to receive excellent medical and surgical Dermatologic
care as well as exceptional cosmetic treatments in a beautiful,
comfortable environment. Dr. Francesca Lewis, a board-certified
general and cosmetic Dermatologist has created a welcoming
environment at the forefront of leading-edge technology and
innovation to provide patients with comprehensive, state-ofthe-art
care. Delray Dermatology is a comprehensive practice for
cosmetic and medical skin concerns and now offers a complete
aesthetic surgical component for patients.
At the beginning of the year, the practice upgraded its Coolsculpting
device to the new and improved CoolSculpting Elite device. This
new device treats more surface area per treatment and can reduce
more fat with a better overall result for patients. Delray Dermatology
will host a CoolSculpting event on April 12th from 10am to 4pm,
offering complimentary consultations with their body sculpting specialists.
CoolSculpting treats several body areas, including double
chin, arms, abdomen, inner and outer thighs, banana rolls, and more!
Another new procedure at the practice is the injectable filler Juvederm
Volux, from the same company that makes Botox. It is the first
filler FDA approved for jawline volume loss, correcting jowls, and
creating a more defined and contoured lower face appearance. Dr.
Lewis was one of the first physicians in the country to offer this revolutionary
treatment starting last November and has injected more
than 200 syringes in that time. She also trains physicians nationwide
on techniques for injecting this and other Juvederm filler products.
In 2022, Delray Dermatology was named an Allergan Top 500
Account. Last year alone, they injected 151,493 units of Botox (almost
1515 vials), 1589 syringes of filler and performed 261 cycles
of Coolsculpting, a body contouring and fat reduction procedure.
Achieving Allergan Top 500 status means Delray Dermatology +Cosmetic
Center is among the top 500 cosmetic practices in the nation!
“As a practice, we have seen an increase in patients looking for
treatments such as Botox and filler but with an emphasis on natural
results. We also introduced Genius Radiofrequency Microneedling in
February of 2022, and it has quickly become one of our most popular
treatments with a very high patient satisfaction for skin tightening,
improving skin texture, and collagen stimulation,” said Dr. Lewis.
The patients at Delray Dermatology praise Dr. Lewis and her staff
for their welcoming demeanor.
“From the moment you call to make an appointment, they are
very helpful. When attending my appointments, the staff is very
welcoming, the office is very clean, and everyone is professional.
Most importantly, Dr. Lewis and her PAs are both amazing, there
to help you with any skin concerns, and they will give you the best
options. Highly recommend this office for all services. Paula, the esthetician,
is also amazing for facials! A must go to dermatologist!”
said a happy patient.
“I have been going to Delray Dermatology and Dr. Lewis since
she opened her office in Delray Beach. Dr. Lewis is a caring, compassionate
doctor who takes great care and never makes you feel
rushed. Everyone in the office follows her lead, Hilary, the PA, Ross,
who helps with my appointments, and the rest of the terrific staff.
I also receive monthly facials from Leah, who is marvelous at what
she does. She is also a lovely person inside and out, gives great recommendations
when asked but is never, ever pushy. I highly recommend
everyone at Delray Dermatology for medical and cosmetic
purposes,” stated another patient.
Join Delray Dermatology for their CoolSculpting event on April
12th from 10am to 4pm, or make an appointment for a medical
skin cancer examination or cosmetic consult to learn more about
their outstanding services and providers!
JADI AUTO RECON
Make Sure Your Car Is Road
Ready From Top To Bottom
By Diane feen | photos by melissa korman
Jonathan Augusto was born to be in the car
business. His father raced cars and inspired
young Jonathan to change a tire in three minutes.
That was a long time ago. But Augusto has been a car guy ever
since then. Call it happenstance or family breeding, but the
young man who could change a tire at lightning speed now
owns a full collision auto shop who does body work on domestic
and exotic cars.
Called Jadi Auto Recon this full collision shop also does custom
painting, reconditioning, interior repairs, bumper refinishing,
headlight Restoration and more.
Their reputation supersedes conventional wisdom and is the
reason the shop has grown from from 800 square-feet to 8000.
That doesn’t surprise Gary Weston of Delray Beach. The car
collector has been taking his beloved cars to Jadi Auto Recon for
the past 10 years.
And, this man knows a lot about cars. He owned a car wash in
Delray Beach and was a car dealer in New York. He also brings his
Bentley (and his 11 other cars) to Augusto to fix dents, scratches or
paint touch ups.
“I send a lot of people to Jonathan and have never heard one single
complaint. He is always there and he can do anything. It is very
difficult to paint cars today. They have a base coat that makes it very
hard to match the color. Jonathan gets it perfect every time. He really
does great work. I bring him all my cars,” said Weston.
Steve of Delray Beach is equally impressed – not only with
Augusto’s work ethic and talent, but with this humanity and humility.
“I had a wonderful experience with Jadi Auto Body. Jonathan went
above and beyond to help my aunt and myself with her car repairs. It

was in a fender bender which required towing. He was very kind and
patient with her and her concerns. He not only had the car towed to
his shop, but he drove my aunt home.”
Steve was impressed with their follow up and constant updates
about the car. “Upon completion, Jonathan drove the car to her
residence. They were Fast! Accurate! And, the workmanship was
excellent and the service second to none.”
A few weeks later Steve had some concerns and Augusto told
him to bring the car back. “In two hours he called me back and
assured me he had checked and repaired it at no charge. I highly
recommend them.”
After 28 years in the business Augusto has gained a loyal following.
There is a good reason. He is a man on a mission.
“I have always loved cars. When I was young, I wanted the
challenge of fixing something. Now that I am a little older, I like to
help my customers get their cars looking good and working well.”
With cars so scare those are magic words. With the lack (and high
price) of new and used cars, people want to keep their cars longer
and preserve their beauty. That’s one reason Augusto sees so many
people bringing in their cars for reconditioning.
“I brought my BMW in for an estimate. Jonathan was professional
and honest. I scheduled my car to be fixed and he had it done on time.
It looks better than it did brand new!”
There is other news at Jadi Auto Recon.
Jonathon Grant Augusto (Jonathan Jr.), who worked with his father
in the car business, has enlisted in the Navy. “My son will be in a
submarine in the navy because he wants to serve his country.”
Jonathon Sr.’s wife Toni has also made cars her life’s work and
passion. She works at Napleton, a very large group of dealerships,
and is a director of Service, Parts and the Bodyshop. “We both share a
passion for cars and I am so proud of the excellent work that Jonathan
does. We go to races together and we enjoy our life, and our work.”
Augusto has done such a great job repairing and refreshing cars
that he works on domestic and exotic cars for large Auto Dealerships.
He also devised ways to keep cars looking good despite the South
Florida terrain. “We have a ceramic coating we put on cars to keep
them shiny. The beach salt air can erode the metal of your car, we
have an undercoating that keeps it rust free for quite a while.”
Jadi also paints fiberglass boats with the same perfectionism. “I
send my boats to Delray because of the quality of work and painting
at Jadi. They are old school in their craftsmanship. Jonathan knows
how to fix what other people have to replace.”
If your car needs detailing, collision work, painting, reconditioning
(or anything else) call and make an appointment. They also take all
insurance.
They look forward to meeting you and making your car sparkle.
This Month in History
Looking Back
April in History
By Lewis David
We are taking a look back at some significant and
important dates that took place in the month of April.
Did you know it’s the month the Civil War began or the
month the Titanic sank? Keep reading to find out more.
April 2nd, 1513
• The Spanish explorer, Juan Ponce De Leon, is leading an expedition
when he sights the modern-day state of Florida, which he
names La Florida and claims for the Spanish crown. He would return
law, sending billions
of US dollars to Europe
to help rebuild
its infrastructure
World War.
The Marshall Plan
was also aimed at
rooting out communism
in Western
Citywide Overwatering Alert
Overwatering lawns during
the early morning hours is
resulting in lower water pressure
citywide. Remember:
• City Ordinance 11-22 requires
residents to follow the
three-day irrigation schedule
to avoid fines
• Most lawns only need 1 inch of water per week
• Overwatering promotes fungal growth and root rot
• Insect-related issues may also arise from overwatering
Please do your part to help us conserve one of our most precious
resources by not overwatering, following the irrigation schedule, and
monitoring your water consumption.
A Woman of Valor and Dedication to Delray
They say it’s not what you get in this life, it’s what
you do with it. Patty Jones knows this quite well.
The former administrative assistant from Michigan has been
the architect of her own life since she was 12- years-old.
She started babysitting as a teen and worked in the photo
department at Montgomery Ward. She continued to work to pay for
her car and rent on her first apartment when she was just a senior
in high school.
Independence has always been her strong suit. It was not something
that Jones took lightly, or resented, it was just the hand she
was dealt.
“I was raised by my father. He taught me not to be afraid of hard
work, and he always said: ‘If you don’t do things for yourself they
won’t get done.’”
So that is what she did. Jones cooked and cleaned and was the
designated ‘lady of the house.’
“Growing up in a divorced family and having step- brothers, I
took over the chores of running the house. I had a joint checking
account with my father and paid the bills. I was responsible for doing
a lot of things at an early age. But it was the way I grew up. It
was normal.”
Not only was it normal, but it set the stage for the trajectory of
Jones’ life - one of compassion and selflessness.
“Doing these things helped mold the person I became. My father
was a big influence on me – he was a strong, analytical, strict man
who taught me the value of hard work.”
That lesson was not lost on Jones.
In 1987 she escaped the winters of the Midwest and moved to
South Florida. She worked at Circle K as a clerk and was promoted
to office work. Jones became an administrative assistant for different
departments (at Conoco Phillips) and attended PBCC. This
career jaunt, that lasted 16 years, taught her about adapting to
change and going with the corporate flow.
She also met and married her soulmate Rod Jones, who was born
and bred in Delray Beach. She has two children, a son Hunter and a
daughter Cassandra.
While her children were in school Jones began her foray into volunteering
and supporting causes close to her heart. At St. Joseph’s
Episcopal School Jones was auction chair for their Gin & Jazz event
and Seaside Luau. She was also on the committee to raise money,
the chair for Santa’s workshop (buying gifts and shopping experiences
for students) and on the Capital Campaign Committee.
When her children attended American Heritage School, Jones became
the PTO President of the upper school. She also did fundraising
for orientation and purchasing awnings and benches.
When her children were older Jones set her sights on a larger
swath of territory – Delray Beach. She started on the committee to
raise funds for the Bethesda Hospital Foundation Center for Women
and Children.
Jones was also very involved in the Palm Beach County Food
Bank, Empty Bowls Delray Beach events. She was on the Committee,
as well as the Chair from 2016 to 2019.
When it comes to culture, you could say that Jones has a large appetite
for philanthropy. This act of selfless giving is from the heart,
but also is part of her family heritage. “My mother-in-law Pat loved
Old School Square and made sure the staff was always taken care of.”
Her mother-in-law also worked to restore the Cornell Museum
of Art & History building, and there was a room named after her.
Jones is currently the Chairperson of Old School Square Inc. If
you attend any of their events, (Luna Fest being the last outstanding
one) you will see Jones front and center helping to create miracles.
Others around town can’t help but marvel at her ability to create,
and contribute, to the goodness that surrounds her.
“Patty Jones is one of the most selfless people I have ever known.
Her commitment and time devoted to our community and local
charities is truly admirable. Patty spends countless hours volunteering
for non-profits that make a huge impact in Delray Beach,”
said Elise Nail.
Jones also supports Impact 100 Women, Delray Citizens for Delray
Police, The Delray Beach Police Department Toy Drive, The
Delray Library, Achievement Centers for Children & Families, and
other community activities.
On top of her philanthropy Jones is also caretaker to her father
Charles, who is disabled. But this full plate that Jones carries around
each day is also a light filled endeavor that makes her heart glow.
“I try to help out wherever I can. When I volunteer, it’s great to
see the fruits of my labor. I like to see how my little impact will help
an organization.”
According to those around her, her impact is not so little.
“Patty gives tirelessly to those around her. When she sees a need
in the community she does what she can to make things better for
those in need. She seems happy to take on a variety of rolls without
worrying about titles or what is in it for her. Patty has an infectious
smile and those around her feel better having her in their world,”
said Ingrid Kennemer, Co-Chair of the Grants Committee for Impact
100 PBC.
Others agree: “Patty is a classy consummate professional. She
always speaks the truth; we are blessed that she took over as chairperson
of OSS,” said Freddie Bonardi.
Bob Stone also sums up Jones kind giving nature.
“In all of my years as Headmaster of American Heritage School
in Delray, I have never worked with anyone more cooperative, positive
and intelligent as Patty Jones. In an era where people tell you
why they couldn’t do something, it was so refreshing for me to work
on countless important programs for children with someone who
always had the best interests of our students in mind.”
As for Jones, her humility is one of reverence for others and
goodness for all.
“I try to be humble, honest, and hard working. You have to look
back at your life and be pleased and happy. I know I am blessed.”
BY Bill Piechocki
What is the Most Important
Nutrient for Healthy Pets?
We are all looking for the easiest and surest solutions to
keep our pets and ourselves in optimal healthy condition.
While many plans, diets, superfoods, medications, supplements,
and much more are touted as the ultimate solution, we
must look at the most fundamental and dynamic approach in the
science of life. This solution or miracle is so universal and necessary
and yet so misunderstood. The absence of this nutrient usually
spells death in a relatively short period of time. It is used in every
function of the body and yet so neglected.
The universal river of life, yes, you guessed it, is water. We take it
for granted because it seems available wherever we are. In almost
any facility, you can always find a source of running water. From
the beginning of time, man has either located at a water source or
found ways to transport it in our travels. In the wild, animals migrate,
sometimes thousands of miles, to find good sources. It is the
lifeblood of every creature and plant on this planet.
The question is, are all waters created equal? You know the answer.
It is obviously NO! Land life cannot survive long with sea or
salt water, and yet ocean life thrives. And sea life will die in clean
fresh water. We are also aware that to thrive, we need that the water
be clean; however, what is clean?
We think we know what clean water is, but do we? What is the
best water? Is it bottled, spring, distilled, or tap in-house filtered?
Most of these are essentially “dead.” Most filter out the essential
mineral content and are treated with disinfecting chemicals. These
waters are then vitaminized, electrolyte charged, flavored, or magically
processed with health claims.
What processing and ingredients are involved in each of these
products? What degree of hydration is actually occurring?
The best hydration occurs from what we refer to as “living” or
structured water. This living structured water is what we find in
clean raised, raw, unprocessed foods. The moisture content of
most raw food, whether plant or animal based, is usually over 60%
and as much as 90% structured water. Structured water is usually
bound with enzymes, hormones, and other beneficial biochemical
components, which leads to fast and more complete absorption at
the cell level. This is where we need homeostasis to begin.
Research shows that natural flowing spring water and rainwater
are charged with extra hydrogen ions. This type of water is one of
the top antioxidants. This is because, unlike other antioxidants that
lose an electron and become a free radical, the extra electrons bind
with the free radical, and the water molecule can flush the system.
Practical water technologies are now available to replicate this
hydrogen ionization in your home through electrolysis technology
that we found worth researching to provide the most viable and
healing waters possible.
With a combination of living structured water and clean raw species
appropriate food, the only possible result is improved health.
By Adora Winquist
A Beginners Guide to
Meditation
with 5 Easy Steps
Mind-body practices that have been around for centuries
are becoming more modern day, accessible tools to elicit
greater health and harmony in life. Current research shows
the numerous benefits of consistent mindful meditation practices,
such as increasing emotional intelligence, the body’s resilience to
stress and improving positive states of mind. Our physical health,
1
Create a space that feels warm and inviting. A clear and
clutter free environment allows the mind to settle and the energy
to flow freely. Having a sanctuary space for your sacred
intentional practices will become a haven for you on the days when
the hectic pace of the world can seem overwhelming.
2
Enjoy a cup of rose petal or lavender tea. Specific herbal
teas can nourish the body, calm the nervous system and sooth
the spirit. These two are wonderfully relaxing and heart nurturing,
helping to create the conditions conducive to meditation.
3
Incorporate your favorite heart centering essential oils
like Geranium, Ylang Ylang or Eucalyptus by inhaling one drop
of the essential oil from the palm of your hand or cotton ball
for 30 seconds while you focus on The Love Code Breath Technique.
Pure essential oils are the most potent form of plant medicine and
offer a profound and immediate effect when used via inhalation. The
process of inhalation creates a new memory cell in the brain, filled
with positive intention, energy, and intelligence. The aromatic molecules
imprint their vibration and medicine through our olfactory
senses, through the brain into our cellular consciousness and the
totality of our beings. When feeling overwhelmed, anxious, down,
or disconnected, we can create new habit patterns of using essential
oils via inhalation to uplift our emotions and re-pattern our neural
pathways for a healthier way of being, feeling and living.
productivity and longevity are directly affected by our mental and
emotional wellbeing.
Adora Winquist, founder of The Soul Institute Co, meditation and
vibrational medicine expert, and author of Detox Nourish Activate:
Plant & Vibrational Medicine for Energy, Mood and Love, shares her
beginners guide to meditation.
4
The Love Code Breath Technique: Release Forgiveness
Gratitude. In each moment we can let go over the thoughts,
feelings, actions, and activities that we know do not serve our
highest health and wellbeing. When you start to feel triggered, upset
or frustrated with yourself or others, center yourself like a tree
rooted in the earth and take a deep breath into your heart, on the
exhalation invite the intention to let go and release that emotion or
thought. Then take a deep breath in forgiveness. It need not be directed
at a person, yet more of a healing balm for our hearts. Then
close with a breath of gratitude, a sense of appreciation for yourself
and your commitment to grow, heal and elevate to the best, most
loving version of yourself.
5
Cultivate
COPYRIGHTED
this practice consistently. You don’t have to
spend an entire hour meditating to zen out. Starting with 5
minutes a day consistently is a great way to cultivate a commitment
to yourself that is simple to keep. Over committing can
create a sense of overwhelmness that is counterproductive. Once
you feel like you have a solid 5-minute daily practice, increase by
a few minutes each time as long as it feels easeful. Work up to 20
minutes a day. Journal your experience and benefits for the first
21 days to see the bright and beautiful new shifts in how you feel
inside and how these greater feelings of goodness and gratitude
ripple out around you.
