On January 7th, Peggy Adams held a successful TNVR (Trap-Neuter-
Vaccinate-Return) Spay Day. Over 130 people brought in 422 cats
for free surgeries. This dedicated group included first-time and veteran
trappers working side by side.
TNVR is a program where freeroaming
cats are humanely trapped,
spayed/neutered, vaccinated for
rabies and other feline viruses,
ear tipped and then returned to
their outdoor homes. TNVR has
been shown to be the least costly,
most effective and humane way
of stabilizing and decreasing
community cat populations.
Our TNVR Spay Day included 12
doctors, 25 veterinary technicians
and nine veterinary students who
joined together from eastern Florida
to perform surgeries. This group
included a team from Operation
Catnip Gainesville, students from
the University of Florida and a team
from Veterinary Emergency Group.
In just seven and a half hours, this collaborative
team completed 422 spay and neuter surgeries.
There were also 47 volunteers and 42 staff members

who assisted in duties with check-in,
surgery prep, instrument sanitization,
cat & trap organization, recovery
and more.
TNVR Spay Day was an important
event to prepare for Kitten Season.
Kitten Season creates a strain on
shelters, including Peggy Adams,
due to the hundreds of newborn and
young kittens flooding their facilities.
This results in the need for increased
staffing and foster families. In an
effort to reduce the strain Kitten
Season poses, Peggy Adams plans
on increasing the number of Spay
Days throughout the year.
