Blinds & Shutters - Issue 2-2023

As I write this it seems as if the Government has reached an agreement with the EU regarding trading arrangements with Northern Ireland. This seems long overdue and let’s hope it doesn’t led to a two tier system within the UK and it gets through Parliament. Also energy prices are still high on the agenda and decisions are being made as we speak on whether there will still be any financial help from the Government. Industry does not seem to be talked about as much as consumers, but if the Government really want to control inflation, energy prices have to come down for prices not to continue rising. It’s a tough time for everyone in the UK, I hope it ‘s not going to get any harder for industry. John Hatcher, Editor

Shade and Shelter
has a range of
shading solutions
designed for any
situation
Shade and Shelter is an innovative Welsh
company based near Newtown. Designing
bespoke shading systems to cope with the
worst of British weather, Shade and Shelter utilise
marine-quality stainless steel fittings for all for the
operating mechanisms.
The Shade and Shelter range of products
include the Cwtch (the Welsh word for a hug or
an embrace) and the Hafren ( the Welsh name for
the River Severn).
The Cwtch is a seating pod featuring a robust
steel frame which can be clad in a choice of
material. The roof rises from within the frame at
the touch of a button. Reminiscent of a sports car
roof, it creates an oasis of calm and shade with its
unique Superyacht styling.
Each Cwtch pod is up to 5m wide with depth
of 3m and can even be incorporated into an
existing terrace or seating area.
The Hafren has a modular steel frame with an
integral gutter and drainage system onto which is
mounted a stainless steel track system with a fully
retractable roof. Purpose-designed for the
worldwide yachting market, the opening roof
system features marine-grade stainless steel and is
designed to last. Electric operation means that it
glides open effortlessly.
Standard bays are up to 4m wide with a
projection of 6m, however they can be linked
together to create any size.
All operating mechanisms are manufactured by
Makefast Ltd who are specialists in the design and
manufacture of high quality marine shade systems.
All Shade and Shelter products can include
heating, lighting and speakers as required, and the
Hafren can also integrate vertical roller blinds to
each aperture as well as additional framemounted
awnings.
