Blinds & Shutters - Issue 2-2023

As I write this it seems as if the Government has reached an agreement with the EU regarding trading arrangements with Northern Ireland. This seems long overdue and let’s hope it doesn’t led to a two tier system within the UK and it gets through Parliament. Also energy prices are still high on the agenda and decisions are being made as we speak on whether there will still be any financial help from the Government. Industry does not seem to be talked about as much as consumers, but if the Government really want to control inflation, energy prices have to come down for prices not to continue rising. It’s a tough time for everyone in the UK, I hope it ‘s not going to get any harder for industry. John Hatcher, Editor

CELLULAR
Admirable solution
Louvolite says that
there’s so much to
admire about
cellular blinds
As we transition away from winter and
move into spring, the demands of the
consumer also begin to change, from the
importance of privacy during the longer nights to
that of protection from low angled sunlight and
glare as the days become longer.
One thing that doesn’t change, particularly in the
current economic climate, is that UK households
are under increasing pressure to become more
energy efficient and cellular blinds, in combination
with Perfect Fit, are a real winner here.
I think we’re all aware that cellular blinds help
retain heat in the home during winter, in fact recent
test results from Salford University suggest that
Perfect Fit Cellular blinds can reduce heat loss
through a double glazed low E window by up to
34% - even more would likely be seen in older -
none low e -double glazed windows.
But the benefits of cellular fabrics don’t stop
there. Sometimes we need to remind ourselves of
the excellent insulating properties of the cellular air
pocket design to help reduce outside noise. When
combined with Perfect Fit the reduced gaps at the
edges of the blind to gain more privacy and, of
course, how the honeycomb structure is
particularly effective at reducing excess heat ingress
into a room during Spring, Summer and Autumn.
Pleated fabrics have been a mainstay of the UK
shading industry for over 30 years. That said, in
more recent times cellular fabric sales have
increased significantly due - in part at least - to
their particular performance benefits. Pleated fabric
sales still show a high volume and are therefore still
important, of course, and they have their place in
this rapidly growing section of the market.
The Louvolite Festival range of pleated products
is particularly popular. It features an SPC Low e, an
ESP blockout and the recently launched Festival SR
– a high value pleated fabric with solar reflective
properties and cost effective pricing.
Louvolite’s cellular programme has increased
considerably to reflect the growing popularity of
these fabrics with their excellent and varied
performance properties. Alongside additional new
colours being added to the Halo and Lunar
programmes, there are two solid colour ranges,
Astral and Celeste, that share colourways across
both blockout and light filtering performance.
Add to that three further ranges, Fresco, Mirage
and Raffia that each showcase a textured print
design, then Louvolite really can boast a fabulous
collection of cellular fabrics that can be presented
to consumers.
So let’s all help our customers save a little during
this difficult time and remind them of the hidden
benefits of windows and doors furnished with great
looking cellular blinds.
