After decades of political upheaval, Colombia is now a firm favourite among savvy travellers as one
of the best places to visit in the world. A haven for ecotourism, adventure holidays, or just relaxing
on the beach, it really has it all.
The weather is usually warm thanks to its position close
to the equator and because there’s so much going on,
you won’t have a chance to get bored! There are exciting
cities to discover from Bogota to Cartagena, as well as
rainforests, golden sand Caribbean beaches, and even a
desert.
Combine Colombia’s abundance of
natural wonders with famous
hospitality, great food, and
the fact that it’s one of the
most affordable South
American countries
to visit… Well, you get
an idea of why it has
become such a popular
destination.
Hit TV shows like Narcos
have painted an exciting
(if pretty dim) picture of this
misunderstood country. Although
Colombia certainly has a chequered past,
it’s not a dangerous place to visit and is
ideal for a family holiday. There’s top
notch healthcare, the crime rates
in the cities are low, and you can
comfortably travel alone if you want.
So, what makes for the ideal
Colombian holiday, then? You could
fly into Bogota to check out the gold
museum, trek into the Amazon rainforest,
head to the highlands to see where the
amazing coffee is grown, or relax
on the beach in Cartagena.
If the world is your oyster,
then surely Colombia is
the pearl. Salude!
