BUSINESS IS DONE BETTER TOGETHER: WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP Successful Black Country Women in Leadership events kick the year off in style Two great events draw region’s women business leaders together Business leaders from across the region gathered in late January, and again earlier this month, for the first events of the year organised by Black Country Women in Leadership, an initiative spearheaded by the Black Country Chamber of Commerce. In January business leaders from across the region joined Chamber CEO Sarah Moorhouse at West Bromwich Albion’s Hawthorns ground for the first Women in Leadership event of 2023, alongside the project’s new business partners, Midlands Engine Industrial Fund, international patent lawyers Forresters, global banking giant HSBC UK and leading international infrastructure group, Balfour Beatty. Coming together to talk about some of the work the partners are doing to support, educate and elevate women in the region’s business community, and to celebrate the resilience and progress made by female leaders while continuing to inspire the next generation, the event gave an insight into how each of the partners are providing a platform to enable women in their sector to step into business opportunities and leadership roles. On March 8, International Women’s Day, over 100 guests gathered at the waterfront offices of Chamber member Higgs LLP for an afternoon event entitled ‘Reputation Matters.’ With the audience congregated in the packed atrium, multi-award-winning creative entrepreneur, publicity coach, personal brand strategist and TV commentator, Dr Tru Powell took to the stage to guide attendees through tips on how to take control of your own PR, how to build a personal brand and how to become a person of influence in your business sector. He was followed by Halesowen-born and multi-award-winning tech entrepreneur, Charlotte Pearce, CEO & founder of Inkpact. com, who spoke passionately about 28 PROSPER SPRING 2023
About... the Chamber’s Women in Leadership network The Black Country Women in Leadership network was launched by the Black Country Chamber of Commerce in 2019 to support and celebrate women in senior roles, provide opportunities for peer-to-peer networking and information sharing. The network offers inspiring events to help strengthen women’s voices, whilst encouraging and inspiring successful women. Described as ‘the UK’s next Branson’ by Gadgette, and named in the Forbes’ ‘30 under 30’ list, Charlotte discussed her personal mission, to help brands and people be more human and authentic by bringing together the head and the heart of business. The afternoon was rounded off by presentations from leading lawyers, Matt Dudley and Rhian Gray from Higgs LLP, who took the audience through what can happen when your reputation is damaged by adverse media coverage or significantly harmed across social media platforms, while giving a legal insight into the action of defamation, what rights and remedies it involves and what to do when your reputation and brand image may not be what it seems.
