Exhibition catalog: Discourse of War
This exhibition is about the impact of the war on the lives and creative paths of artists in Ukraine and worldwide. We want to show how artists’ attitude to art has changed during this year. How changed the vector of their creativity and attitude to the language of art in connection with these events. War has no nationality or religion. War has an impact on everyone individually and on all of humanity in general. Our goal is to show how artists from different parts of the world perceive war. This is an art discourse between artists and viewers.

About artwork
This is part of a photographic series named THE FRAGILITY OF LIFE. This is visually a bit of a
departure from the type of art I usually create. But in a world where we can follow every gruesome
minute of every horrific tragedy on the news, I could not help but be emotionally involved
in the Ukrainian war. As the battle has continued, the media coverage has moved on and it has
been pushed to the back burner. For the Ukraine people, it is still in the on the front-page raging
on.
FRAGILITY OF LIFE was born from horrors of war. The remnants of battles are cold, silent,
and filled with darkness and des pair. The collection addresses an unpleasant subject that most
prefer not to exhibit but it is our obligation to communicate critical issues to the public. The art
community not only has the ability but the responsibility to remind society of the consequences
of war in a unique way.
I grew up during the Viet Nam war. It has stayed with me in ways I cannot articulate. I know
some younger people are unable to emotionally engage fully in Ukraine because it is so far from
home. There are other threats looming. Are we prepared?
Це частина фотосерії під назвою КРИХКІСТЬ ЖИТТЯ. Візуально це дещо відрізняється
від того типу мистецтва, яке я зазвичай створюю. Але у світі, де ми можемо
стежити за кожною жахливою хвилиною кожної жахливої трагедії в новинах, я
не міг не бути емоційно причетним до української війни. У міру того як боротьба
тривала, висвітлення в засобах масової інформації зрушило з місця, і це було
відсунуто на другий план. Для українського народу це все ще на перших шпальтах.
КРИХКІСТЬ ЖИТТЯ народилася з жахів війни. Залишки битв холодні, мовчазні, сповнені
темряви та відчаю. Колекція стосується неприємної теми, яку більшість
вважає за краще не виставляти, але наш обов’язок – донести до громадськості
важливі проблеми. Мистецьке співтовариство має не тільки можливість, але й
відповідальність нагадувати суспільству про наслідки війни в унікальний спосіб.
Я виріс під час війни у В’єтнамі. Це залишилося зі мною таким чином, що я не можу
сформулювати. Я знаю, що деякі молоді люди не можуть повною мірою емоційно
залучитися в Україну, тому що вона так далеко від дому. Є й інші загрози. Ми готові?
