Exhibition catalog: Discourse of War

This exhibition is about the impact of the war on the lives and creative paths of artists in Ukraine and worldwide. We want to show how artists’ attitude to art has changed during this year. How changed the vector of their creativity and attitude to the language of art in connection with these events. War has no nationality or religion. War has an impact on everyone individually and on all of humanity in general. Our goal is to show how artists from different parts of the world perceive war. This is an art discourse between artists and viewers.

About artwork

I wrote and illustrate a poem after my constant anxiety and the weltschmerz I’ve been

experiencing. With this series you can see my mental process unfolding before your

eyes.

“...And if you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you.” Said Nietzsche. The

catalyst of my idea was this sentence.

Daily life feels like a never ending nightmare since I can’t remember how long.

Abyss

Woke up in the middle of the abyss,

-again.

Time drizzled on and I couldn’t sleep a wink.

“Welcome back to the land of the living” the caterpillar whispered.

I stared at him with blank eyes.

He stared right into my soul.

I wondered if I was invisible until being perceived by him.

Was I not occupying a certain amount of volume till my imagery is mirrored onto his

retina upside down?

Time was decaying rapidly as I sat down on my bed.

Was I a prisoner of time, space … or both?

He asked, “Do you know where the universe is expanding into?”

“Nowhere, everywhere,” I mumbled.

“Same mediocre punchline in a different set of skin suits.” He muttered.

I’ve felt like a Chinese room.

The rain started tapping on the roof,

as we sat there and practiced being fluent in silence.
