Gail Gilbride about her latest novel<br />
which is set in South Africa, 1976.<br />
An intern works on a Cape Town<br />
newspaper shadowing the political<br />
reporter. During this time she<br />
witnesses one of the Prime Minister’s<br />
shocking speeches and begins to<br />
doubt her choice of career. She’s just<br />
not good enough. In the midst of<br />
turbulence and chaos, she falls in love<br />
with an activist.<br />
Rosemarie will talk to her publisher,<br />
Beryl Eisenberg about her most<br />
recent book, written during the<br />
lockdown. For some time Rosemarie<br />
had been promising herself that she<br />
would write another cookbook and<br />
share some of her ‘think-on-your-feet’<br />
catering stories with her family.<br />
Says Rosemarie, ‘There was time<br />
to think and reset one’s personal<br />
compass. A project was required.’<br />
Celebrating the love and life she had<br />
the privilege of sharing for a decade<br />
with the legend of South African<br />
literature, André Brink, his widow<br />
Karina recounts stories of their<br />
togetherness.<br />
Karina will read from her grief<br />
memoir as well as from the collection<br />
of their love letters she compiled<br />
after her husband’s death.<br />
