1 HISTORY
Founded by Dino D’addario, Italian
immigrant pioneer of the exotic
leather industry in Bolivia, we are a
family business with more than 30
years of experience.
We specialize in tanning and leather
goods manufacturing made with
exotic skins such as spectacled
caiman, American alligator and
ostrich.

INDIGENOUS AND PEASANT COMMUNITIES
D’Addario is part of the National Program for the
Conservation and Sustainable Use of Spectacled
Caiman (caiman yacare), managed by the Bolivian
Ministry of Environment and Water. The program
benefits 800 families from 200 communities in the
regions of Beni, La Paz and Santa Cruz. [1]
We procure Caiman flanks from the following
communities:
• TCO TACANA: winners of the equator prize awarded
by the United Nations [2]
• ANMI SAN MATIAS
• TCO GUARAYOS

ARTiSians
Since 1978, until today, Dino D’Addario estimates
having trained more than 20 tanning technicians
and around 50 craftsmen in leather goods.
Currently our Tannery has 2 tanning technicians
and 1 in developing stage. Our leather workshop
has 2 skilled artisans and 3 in developing stage.
Aiming to improve productivity, occupational
safety, quality and business management, since the
second half of 2019, we begin the implementation
of the SCORE programme developed by the
International Labor Organization [3].

3 SUSTAINABILITY
CONSERVATION OF THE SPECTACLED CAIMAN AND IT’S HABITAT
“Sustainable use of natural resources lies at the
core of conservation – most wildlife is outside
strict protected areas, and for it to survive people
need to be both motivated and empowered
to conserve it. That means they need benefits:
the central message is “use it or lose it” ... There
is ample scientific evidence indicating that
banning the sale of wildlife removes the value of
biodiversity, and in turn fosters illegal trade and
damages local incentives to protect populations
of animals”. [4]
We feel proud that our work contributes
positively for the protection of areas with
remarkable biodiversity, among them:
• Madidi Natural Park: One of the most
biologically diverse natural protected area in
the world [5]
• ANMI San Matías: Protected area that
interconnects the Chiquitano Dry Forest with
the Bolivian Pantanal ecoregion [6]

DESIGN FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
We reduce the carbon footprint of our products
using local resources: the inner lining of sheepskin is
acquired from peasant communities in the Bolivian
highlands; a material that provides high durability to
our product.
From the design, we explore approaches to reduce
waste. For example: the handbag shown in the
image was manufactured taking advantage of small
pieces of leather, logically craftsmanship increases
the value of the bag.
We aim to say that this accessory was manufactured
with 95% of locally sourced materials, only studding
and metallic zippers were imported.

GIOVANA GUTIERREZ
Giovana Gutiérrez Pizza was born in La Paz,
Bolivia. Her experience in the fashion world began
in 2000 when she started to work in the tanning
industry, mainly for exotic skins, bovine and lamb.
The development of her passion for leather has
allowed her to become Head of Design and
Manufacture of our handbags and accessories.
Her training in Engineering and Environment,
along with her experience in tanning, provides
her with an adequate knowledge about leather,
and provided the ability to optimize the quality of
products and reduced the environmental impact
of our processes.
Her designs prioritize elegance, aesthetics and
functionality. They are designed for current,
determined women, who perform multiple daily
activities and shall remain elegant.
