Pranoti Karajgi is an Indian artist who has always used art<br />

to express her creativity and <strong>in</strong>dividuality. She believes<br />

that art reflects the state of the society we live <strong>in</strong> and<br />

showcases the struggle and achievements<br />

of a community. Her journey with clay began at<br />

the age of 19 when she discovered the potential<br />

of the Kumhars, a potter’s community <strong>in</strong> her<br />

hometown of Jabalpur, India. She collaborated<br />

with them to highlight their skills and talent and<br />

held solo pottery exhibitions across multiple cities<br />

<strong>in</strong> India, garner<strong>in</strong>g appreciation throughout the art<br />

community.<br />

Pranoti’s passion for design and art led<br />

her to practice <strong>in</strong>terior design on small<br />

and large-scale projects <strong>in</strong> India and UAE.<br />

However, she returned to pottery <strong>in</strong> 2015,<br />

this time explor<strong>in</strong>g ceramic pottery.<br />

She formalized her tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g under<br />

the stewardship of NCECA felicitated<br />

ceramicists Ray Meeker and Deborah<br />

Smith, pioneers of studio pottery <strong>in</strong><br />

India. She also learned from renowned<br />

ceramicists Elena Renkar, Adil Writer,<br />

Akira Satake, Rakhi Kane Veena<br />

Chandran, to name a few.<br />

Pranoti primarily works <strong>in</strong> wheel<br />

thrown and hand built pottery, with<br />

an emphasis on strong utilitarian forms and playful alterations and impressions. She is a<br />

formalist who focuses on master<strong>in</strong>g each stage of the pottery mak<strong>in</strong>g process and believes<br />

<strong>in</strong> lett<strong>in</strong>g the clay speak for itself. Pranoti also teaches pottery on wheel and hand-built<br />

ceramics at Dubai International Art Center. Her goal is to promote and educate people<br />

about ceramics and through her work, br<strong>in</strong>g to light the nuances of pottery mak<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

“Through my art I wish to bridge the gap between classical pottery techniques and<br />

contemporary design and br<strong>in</strong>g to light the beautiful marriage of earth and fire,” says<br />
