always like to remind
thegoodpeopleofOyo
statethatthisisanother
partofourvisionto
engineer a modern Oyo state.As forward‐thinking people, we
know the importance of road construction to development,
whereveranewroadconstructiongoes–youknowwhathappens
…development.Wehaveseenthishappensincewecompletedthe
65kmMoniya–Ijaiye‐Iseyinroad,therehasbeenanincreasein
economic activities, farm produces from Iseyin can easily be
movedtoIbadanforonwardmovementtoanotherpartofthestate
and even outside the state.As similarly, the dualization of this
IbadanAirportroadwillcomewithimmenseeconomicbenefits,
especiallybecausewearenotbuildingthis3.2kmroadinisolation.
Thiscontractalsoincludestherehabilitation/reconstructionofthe
adjoiningaccessroadsalongtheAirportaxis.Intotal,thework
scopeforthisprojectisabout10.8kmastheprojectincludesthe
rehabilitation of spur roads around the Iwo road interchange to
Adegbayi road and the road from Oludare to Bishop Philips
academy. Let me use this opportunity to address some of the
issuesourpeoplehaveraisedaboutinnerroadsinOyostate.Inthe
pastweeks,youwouldhavenoticedthattheOyostateMinistryof
Works,InfrastructureandTransporthasbeenworkingwiththe
LocalGovernmentauthoritiestoseethatsomeoftheseroadsare
fixed.Iftheserepairshaven'tgottentoyourarea,pleasedon'tpick
offensesastheywillstillgetthere.Iftheyhavenotstartedfixingthe
innerroadsinyourarea,pleasebepatient,theywillgettoyou.
WhatwearedoinghereisengineeringamodernOyostate.Wecan
seeourfather(Dr.OmololuOlunloyo)hereisanEngineer,Iaman
EngineertooandthereareArchitectswithus.WeknowArchitects,
they do the drawing designs and create the model and keep it
somewherebuttheEngineerbuildsandwewillconstructthisroad
aswehaveplanned.Wearebuildingstructuresandsystemsthat
willleadtosustainabledevelopmentsinOyostate.Andsoweare
workinginsuchawaythatwhoeveriscomingbehindwillnotneed
tolayanotherfoundationbutwillcontinuefromwherewestopped.
Ittookmeseveralweekstotakethisdecisionbecausetheprevious
administrationawardedtheexpansionoftheshoulderofthisroad
withthepreviousconstructionworksfromOnipepeye,thatportion
ofthecontractwasTwohundredmillionnaira(N200m).SoIwas
askingmyself,shouldwejustleavetheconstructionlikethatbutI
wasabletocometoadecisionafteraboutsixweeks,I'msure
distinguishedSenatorAgboolawillrememberseveraltimeswhen
wewereheadingfortheAirportthenwewillbegintodebateonthis
matter꞉shouldwespendthismoneynoworshouldwejustlivewith
theexpansionofjusttheshouldersoftheroadforjustTwohundred
millionnaira(N200m)andweeventuallycametoaconclusionso
wedecidedtobitethebullet,notthebulletsingunsthatkillpeople
though.Wedecidedthatthereareafewthingswearedoingwith
theairport;wehaveseenairlinesthatwon'tstayinIbadanovernight
becausethere'snomeanstofueluptheaircraft.
