So,wearecontinuingonourmissionofturningallourpotentials intoeconomicbenefits.Today’seventmayseemlikeababystep. But,weknowthattheconsistentstepsofababysteadyitsfeet untilitattainsadulthood. WearehappytoreceiveallofyouatIbadantoday,andweurge youtocomeagainandagain.Andwhenyoucome,don’tstopat theairport,comeintothecity.Itisnotchallengingforyoutoget around.Therearethingstoseeandthingstobuy.Icannotend thisremarkwithoutsayingthankyoutotheFederalAirports AuthorityofNigeriaforworkingwithusonthisproject.It certainlywouldnothavebeenpossibleifyoudidnotagreetothis partnership. AndourheartfeltappreciationgoestothemanagementofAir PeaceAirlineforkeyingintoourvisionandpioneeringthis project. Welookforwardtoyoursettlinginhereandshowingothersthatit ispossible. WealsoremodelledandequippedthenewProtocol/VIPLounge –whichwewillbeopeningtoday‐andmadeprovisionsforits maintenance.Morerecently,weawardedthecontractof constructingandinstallinga500,000‐litreaviationfuelfacility. ThisisasteptowardsensuringtheupgradeoftheIbadanAirport toanInternationalAirportstatus.Somepeoplehaveaskedwhy weneedanInternationalAirportsoclosetoLagos.Ihave spokenanumberoftimesofhowflightsareoftendivertedto Ghanatorefuel.WewantthemtoredirecttoIbadan.Thisairport upgradeprojectisanotherwayofturningour proximityintoeconomicbenefits.Also,whenweattain internationalstatus,wecanserveasalogisticshubto complementtheIbadanInlandDryPort.AndthenmaybeAir PeacewillbepersuadedtomaketheIbadanAirporttheir operationalbase.Thesearejustafewofthemanyreasonsthat theIbadanAirportprojectisaviableone. 0

OYOSTATE 35 GOVERNORSEYIMAKINDE’SREMARKSATTHEGROUNDBREAKING CEREMONYTOCONSTRUCTTHENIGERIANAIRFORCEBASE,IBADAN today–thegroundbreakingceremonyforbuildingthe permanentsiteoftheNigerianAirForcebase–ispartofthat overallplan.Infact,tomaketodaypossible,theOyoState Governmentdonated58.58hectaresoflandtodevelopthenew base.Inaddition,wewillalsoprovidesomesupportinthe infrastructuraldevelopmentofthenewAirForceBase.Partof thatsupportistheongoingreconstructionofthe21kmAirport‐ Ajia‐NewIfeExpressRoadwithaspurtoAmuloko.More recently,wealsoembarkedondualisingtheIbadan‐Airport Roadandrehabilitatingadjourninglinkroadsalongtheairport axis,withspurroadsalongtheIwoRoadinterchange.Withall theseongoingdevelopments,whenthisAirforceBaseis completed,itwillbewithin15minutes‐drivetoIbadanAirport andintothetownAsmentionedearlier,thisisallpartofour overallvisiontoengineeramodernOyoState.Soletmeuse thisopportunitytoonceagain,appealtothegoodpeopleofAjia communitytobeaccommodatinghostsandsupportourplans tobringrapiddevelopmenttothisarea.Imuststatethatthis newAirForceBaseisnotjustaninfrastructuralproject.Itkeys intoourplansforarobustsecurityarchitectureforOyoState. AsmorebusinessesmovetoOyoandtheStatetakesamore cosmopolitanoutlook,thechallengesthatwewillfacewill increase.Withthisinmind,wemadesecurityoneofthefour pillarsofourRoadMaptoAcceleratedDevelopment,2019‐ 2023.Sofar,theOyoStateGovernmenthasbeenworking collaborativelywiththevarioussecurityagenciesinthestate. nNovemberlastyear,Iwas Iinthisareaforthefirst‐year remembranceceremonyof PaTheophilusAkinyele.I rememberstatingonthat occasion,thatmore developmentwouldbecoming tothisaxissoon.Thisispartof oureffortstoexpandtheOyo Stateeconomyandturnthis areaintoanaerotropolis.What weareabouttowitnesshere Whencompleted,thisnewbasewillimprovetheoperational reachoftheNigerianAirForceinOyoStateandenhancecrisis responsetime.OyoStatewillalsohavethebraggingrightsof hostingthepermanentsiteofoneofNigeria’sAirForceBases. Letme,atthispoint,commendtheeffortsofourmilitary personnelinthefightagainstinsurgency,banditryandother securitythreatsinvariouspartsofourcountry.Iwillalwayssay thatoursecurityagenciesoftenperformathanklessjob.Noone remembersyouwhenthereispeace,butpeoplebegintoask whatyouweredoingoncethereisabreach.Soletmesaythank you. Also,letmeusethisopportunitytoappreciatetheeffortsofthe securityagenciesbasedinOyoStateandalsoappealtoyouto remaintruegentlemeninthedischargeofyourduties.Youmust continuetoactinwaysthatbringdignitytotheofficeyouare occupying.Onourpart,OyoStatewillcontinuetosupportyouto achieveyourtrueobjectives.IwanttocommendtheChiefofAir Staff,AirMarshalIsiakaOladayoAmao,forhislaudable achievementssincehetookoverthereinsofleadership. Indeed,ouradministrationiscommittedtopartneringwiththe NigerianAirForceforabettercivil‐militaryrelationshipand improvedsecurityinourstate.Andonthatnote,wewillbe proceedingtoperformthegroundbreakingceremonyforthe buildingofthepermanentsiteoftheNigerianAirForceBase, Ibadan,tothegloryofGodandforthebenefitofthegoodpeople ofOyoState.
