LIFE SKETCH<br />
<strong>Marie</strong> <strong>Zar</strong> was born unto the union of Wallah Dayue <strong>Zar</strong> and Darnetoe Tetee <strong>Zar</strong> on June<br />
2, 1966. She started her primary educa on in Tubmanburg, Bomi County at the<br />
Pentecostal School. She later moved to Monrovia to live with her elder sister, Sarah<br />
Paygar <strong>Zar</strong> where she enrolled at the McIntosh Elementary School, Old Road, and<br />
completed her primary educa on.<br />
<strong>Marie</strong> went on to enroll at the Suhen Mission School where she did complete her junior<br />
high school. Ms. <strong>Marie</strong> <strong>Zar</strong> therea er enrolled at the Wells Hairston High School and<br />
eventually completed high school in 1985 and she was blessed with her one and only son,<br />
Mack Elsa Turay who currently lives in Morocco.<br />
In 1987 a er she achieved some formal educa on from the University of Liberia, she<br />
started her first experience job at the Red Cross Interna onal.<br />
In 1989 she developed a passion for the media network, thus entering the field of<br />
journalism. She worked with Liberia Broadcas ng System( LBS) un l the civil war broke<br />
out.<br />
Ms. <strong>Marie</strong> <strong>Zar</strong> nearly lost her life on the Fendell campus because of the job she then had.<br />
As the war escalated, she took her son with her to Gbarnga, Bong County for survival. It<br />
was in Gbarnga that one of her cousins, the late Garswa Yarmento encouraged her to<br />
con nue to pursue her career as a journalist.<br />
In 1997, she got a job with Kiss FM where she worked as a press photo journalist, a<br />
photographer, and video recorder. A er few years of working in the journalis c field,<br />
<strong>Marie</strong> moved to the United States of America in 2001 and se led in the State of<br />
Minnesota.<br />
<strong>Marie</strong> was a diligent, a devoted, and a born again Chris an. She became member of the<br />
Philadelphia Church Congo Town Liberia in 1998 and sang in the choir. Upon her arrival<br />
in the USA, she quickly located the Philadelphia Church interna onal (PCI) and became<br />
an ac ve member where she served in the praise and worship Ministry.<br />
<strong>Marie</strong>’s first job was at Saint Therese of New Hope. In 2003, <strong>Marie</strong> <strong>Zar</strong> was also hired at<br />
the North Memorial Hospital where she worked for over 19 years. She was truly a<br />
passionate person who always wanted to help others.
In 2008, <strong>Marie</strong> join the Christ Triumphant Outreach Ministries(CTOM ) where her faith<br />
developed in her walk with God. She was very dedicated to Jesus and to her church. <strong>Marie</strong><br />
also held and played many roles in the church: president and member of the choir,<br />
women’s leader, intercessor, dance ministry sponsor, to list a few. She was kingdomminded,<br />
a faithful giver, and a real friend who touched almost everyone with her gi of<br />
love.<br />
Given the friendly life that <strong>Marie</strong> lived, she was a member of many organiza ons<br />
including: ALJA, Bomi Hills organiza on, Uzekiah, Oldies But Goodies and many more.<br />
<strong>Marie</strong> <strong>Zar</strong> was an avid outdoor person who enjoyed spending quality me with friends<br />
and family members. <strong>Marie</strong> was a volunteer for several different organiza ons and was<br />
always willing to lend helping hands. She was a loving and caring mother, a loving friend,<br />
and a sweet aunty who cared about everyone who came her way and was devoted to her<br />
rela ves and family. Indeed, she was an ac ve member of our community and was loved<br />
by all who knew her.<br />
Four years ago <strong>Marie</strong> was diagnosed with stage four cancer. She did everything possible<br />
within her reach. She went from doctor to doctor, appointment to appointment.<br />
Some mes good news, other mes not so good ,but <strong>Marie</strong>’s faith and hope was strong.<br />
She did not give up, even when doctors told her they could not help her anymore. A er<br />
ba ling with cancer for years, <strong>Marie</strong> <strong>Zar</strong> finally went to be with the Lord on January 29,<br />
2023. Her legacy lives on in our hearts.<br />
<strong>Marie</strong> <strong>Zar</strong> was the youngest of seven children, namely: Sammie <strong>Zar</strong> (deceased),<br />
Sundayway Paygar <strong>Zar</strong>, Peter Whelemongar <strong>Zar</strong>, Ceedy <strong>Zar</strong> Suahgba, Pewee Moore <strong>Zar</strong><br />
(deceased), Martha Boedor <strong>Zar</strong> (deceased), and Goodrich <strong>Zar</strong> (deceased)<br />
<strong>Marie</strong> had a big dream and a bright spirit. She was so passionate about her dream of<br />
having her son brought to the US. But this dream was never achieved. While on her dying<br />
bed, she said, “Mackieboy, I don’t know if you will meet me here, because it is ge ng<br />
hard. But just in case you don’t meet me, I want you to stay strong. One day God will make<br />
a way for you to come.” May her dream come to pass.<br />
<strong>Marie</strong> leaves to mourn her son, Mackieboy, siblings, nieces, nephews, and a host of other<br />
rela ves in and out of Liberia and United States.<br />
She will always be missed and remembered as a kind, generous, and loving woman who<br />
brought joy to the lives of many. May her soul rest in perfect peace.
