Prof. Belloli, who graduated in Mechanical Engineering atPolitecnico di Milano, is Full Professor of Applied Mechanics atDMEC and Scientific Director of Politecnico di Milano Wind Tunnel.
ITALa mia recente nomina a Direttore del Dipartimento di Meccanicaè avvenuta contestualmente all’elezione della nuova Rettrice delPolitecnico di Milano. Una sorta di doppio avvio - se volete - chedarà alle azioni del prossimo triennio, anche a livello di DMEC, unaconnotazione fortemente innovativa. Allo stesso tempo, ci troviamodi fronte a una fase di profonda transizione del sistema economicoeuropeo e di quello universitario nazionale, grazie alle straordinarieopportunità offerte dal Piano Nazionale di Ripresa e Resilienza –PNRR.Ricevo dalle mani del mio predecessore una struttura solida che,nonostante le numerose criticità degli ultimi anni, non ha solo“tenuto”, ma che è riuscita a migliorare i propri indicatori in terminidi autofinanziamento, crescita del personale strutturato e nonstrutturato (penso in particolare a dottorandi/e e assegnisti) eanche nel numero di personale tecnico-amministrativo.La sfida più grande sarà il mantenimento di questa chiara eccellenzache Meccanica ha sempre raggiunto, ma che andrà inserita in uncontesto rinnovato e in continuo, rapido, cambiamento. In terminidi ricerca e reclutamento, sarà proprio il PNRR a rappresentareun elemento di grande novità, anche attraverso la partecipazionea centri nazionali, ecosistemi e partenariati, che vedranno i nostridocenti e ricercatori direttamente coinvolti. A noi il compito dilavorare con queste importanti risorse, indirizzandole alla creazionedi nuovi filoni di ricerca e al consolidamento di quelli in cui siamogià attivi e leader all’interno della comunità scientifica italianae internazionale. Penso, ad esempio, al Centro Nazionale per laMobilità Sostenibile (MOST) o al partenariato esteso Made in Italy.Lo sguardo al futuro è rappresentato dai temi chiave su cuipunteremo nel prossimo triennio. Uno di questi è la crescita digiovani ricercatori e ricercatrici, che perseguiremo attraverso unpiano di sviluppo e talent growth del corpo docente, rivolto allapartecipazione – e all’ottenimento – di Grant individuali di primolivello, europei e nazionali, come ERC, FIS e FISA.Inoltre, investiremo risorse ed energie in una nuova strategia diinternazionalizzazione, su un primo piano di mobilità internazionalein ingresso e in uscita di giovani ricercatori e ricercatrici, a partiredai PhD, e su un secondo livello dedicato alle figure senior, affinchétrovino lo stimolo e l’opportunità a collaborare con altre universitàall’interno delle reti cui già appartiene l’Ateneo, come ambasciatoridel Dipartimento nella costruzione di relazioni strutturate con altrienti di ricerca.Il 2023 sarà anche l’anno di avvio della nuova Laurea Magistrale inIngegneria Meccanica, frutto dell’importante revisione didatticache si è da poco conclusa e che ha visto tra i protagonisti diquesta riforma molti docenti del DMEC. Il mio impegno, a nome delDipartimento, sarà quello di rinnovare il sostegno a questa iniziativae di garantire un contributo fattivo ed efficace alla sua realizzazione.ENGMy recent appointment as Head of the Department of MechanicalEngineering took place at the same time as the election of thenew Rector of Politecnico di Milano. A sort of double start - if youlike - which will give the actions of the next three years, also atDepartment level, a highly innovative connotation. In the meantime,we are facing a phase of profound transition in the Europeaneconomic system and in the national academic system, thanks tothe extraordinary opportunities offered by the National Recoveryand Resilience Plan - PNRR.I have received from my predecessor’s hands a solid structurewhich, despite the numerous critical issues of the recent years,has not only “held on”, but also managed to improve its indicators, interms of self-financing, growth of tenured and untenured personnel(in particular, PhDs and research fellows) and in the number oftechnical-administrative staff.The biggest challenge will be keeping up with this seal of excellencethat DMEC has always achieved, now inserting it in a renewed andcontinuously, rapidly changing context. In terms of research andrecruitment, the PNRR will represent a new element through theparticipation in national centers, ecosystems and partnerships,which will see our professors and researchers directly involved.We bear the task of handling properly these important resources,directing them to the creation of new lines of research and theconsolidation of those in which we are already active and leaderswithin the Italian and international scientific community. I amthinking, for example, of the National Center for Sustainable Mobility(MOST) or of the Made in Italy PE.Our approach to the future is also represented by some key themeson which we will focus in the next three years. One of them is thecareer growth of young researchers, which we hope to achievethrough a talent development plan for the academic staff aimedat participating - and at obtaining - top-level individual grants,European and national, such as ERC, FIS and FISA.Moreover, we will invest resources and energy in a newinternationalization strategy, on a first level of incoming andoutgoing international mobility of young researchers, startingwith PhDs, and on a second level dedicated to senior figures, sothat they can find the stimulus and opportunity to collaborate withother universities as ambassadors of the Department, in buildingstructured relationships with other research institutions.2023 will also be the opening year of the new Master’s Degreein Mechanical Engineering, the result of a relevant educationalrevision that was recently concluded, and had a conspicuousnumber of DMEC Faculty directly involved.
