ITACare Amiche, Cari Amici,il tempo passa rapido, siamo al quarto numero di MeccanicaMagazine la rivista annuale del Dipartimento di Meccanica delPolitecnico di Milano, l’ultimo del mio mandato incominciato sei annifa.È stato un sessennio vissuto pienamente e di corsa tra gli impegnidi senatore di Ateneo e quelli di direttore. Un periodo iniziato conla presunzione che le esperienze precedenti di prorettore del PoloTerritoriale di Lecco e, quelle più lontane nel tempo, di membro dellagiunta e di responsabile dei laboratori del Dipartimento di Meccanicafossero sufficienti per affrontare “facilmente” gli impegni del ruolo;finito con la certezza di aver percorso una strada sì tortuosa,ma carica di soddisfazioni e di “cose belle” non certo solo per sestesse, ma perché vissute con amici; Nullius boni sine socio iucundapossessio est (nessuna cosa è bella da possedere se non si hannoamici con cui condividerla – Lucio Anneo Seneca). Tutti insiemeabbiamo condiviso successi molto gratificanti e stimolanti (uno pertutti: DMEC Dipartimento di Eccellenza 2018 - 2022) ma anche ledifficoltà e le criticità del costruire giorno per giorno un camminocomune nella diversità delle competenze e delle conoscenzescientifiche, degli obiettivi e dei modelli di governance; il tutto resopiù complesso dal periodo di pandemia che ci ha costretto a gestireun’emergenza a cui non eravamo preparati né umanamente e néoperativamente e per la quale abbiamo tirato fuori “dalla cassettadegli attrezzi” di ciascuno di noi e della comunità DMEC gli strumentiper re-inventare la didattica, il modo di far ricerca, la terza missione,il public engagement con il denominatore comune di non volererinunciare al piacere dei contatti personali (magari per necessitàsolo digitali) con i colleghi e gli studenti.Un grande grazie a tutti i colleghi della Direzione, della Giunta,della Commissione Scientifica, dell’Advisory Board. Un affettuosopensiero a tutto il personale tecnico e amministrativo senza lacui competenza e passione i traguardi ottenuti sarebbero statiirraggiungibili.Chiudo salutando tutti i colleghi del Senato Accademico con i quali- oltre a condividere il sentire “politecnico” - ho avuto la possibilitàdi discutere, progettare e partecipare alla costruzione della vitadell’Ateneo.ENGDear Friends,Time flies, and here is the fourth number of Meccanica Magazine,the annual issue of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, andthe last one published being the Head of the Department.I got to live the past six years intensely and always in a rush due tothe agenda of both a Member of the Academic Senate and of theHead of the Department. When I started, I was confident that myprevious experience, as the Vice Rector for Lecco Campus, as amember of the Department Board and, even before that as thedepartment labs manager, was enough to easily face the challengesof this role. As this journey ends, I am aware that I travelled a roughroad still filled with satisfaction and beautiful things, not becausethey were beautiful indeed, but because I could share them withmy friends. Nullius boni sine socio iucunda possessio est (nothingis beautiful unless you have friends to share them with) – LucioAnneo Seneca. Together we achieved remarkable and inspiringsuccesses (i.e. the Department of Excellence 2018-22 project,…). But we also faced difficulties coming from building day byday a common path even with different expertise and scientificknowledge, objectives and governance models. On top, we alsoexperienced the complications of the pandemic, which forced us tohandle an emergency we weren’t humanly and practically preparedfor. Still, each of us found in our own and in the DMEC “toolboxes”the tools to re-think teaching activities, the way we do research,our Third Mission and public engagement. The baseline was beingunable to cut personal social relations (even though online only) withcolleagues and students.Special thanks to my colleagues of the Department GoverningBodies: the managers, the members of the Department Board, ofthe Scientific Commission and of the Advisory Board.
